During the recent Write-a-Thon, we discussed a revision of the Corporation rules. These are the notes from that discussion. Based on this, a more completed proposal will be made.

Everyone was positive about the introduction of Shares and a new way of calculating the corporation's income. The base idea of shares being that each specialised zone generates a single Share, and that the income of the corporation is divided by ratio of the shares (if Jedi has 2 shares and Sith has 1, than Jedi gets 2/3 of the income and Sith gets 1/3).

The new way of calculatin the corporation's income is based not upon the amount of zones, but on the amount of labour created by the corporation. The idea being that the actual income of a corporation fluctuates more, and is influenced by player actions and upgrades. Exact numbers are to be determined.

After some discussion, we concluded that several types of corporations are needed to sort out the different scenario's and ways corporations can be used. We determined two axis on which these corporations can be placed: the "Territory axis" and the "Specialisation rights" axis.

The Territory axis determines where zones can be specialised, we identified two options:
  • Own territory only: Zones may only be specialised on worlds controlled by the owner of the corporation.
  • Everywhere: Zones may be specialised on any world.
The Specialisation rights axes determines how permission to specialize a zone with the corporation is granted, again we identified two options:
  • Public Specialisation: Everyone is allowed to specialize zones with this corporation.
  • Controlled Specialisation : The owner of the corporation must explicity grant permission.
These two axis give rise to four corporation types, which we identified during the discussion:
  • Type Stupid (Own Territory Only, Public Specialisation)
  • Type NV (Everywhere, Public Specialisation)
  • Type BV (Everywhere, Controlled Specialisation)
  • Type Private (Own Territory Only, Controlled Specialisation)
Disregarding the Stupid type, we ended up with three types which were discussed with regard to the impact they have on the game, and the ways they create new interaction and roleplay opportunities.

We ended up with the following qualities:
  • NV: Has no owner, the zone specializer gets the generated Share.
  • BV: Has an owner, the owner gets generated Shares. Rules for a hostile takeover are necessary (these must include getting OOC approval for the takeover from the player of the current owner)
  • Private: Has an owner, has no shares.
The consensus among those present was that all three types should have the same income calculation, but that the startup cost and specialisation cost were good variables to tweak. Furthermore, everyone present agreed that the BV type is the most "powerful" of the corporations, and should have the highest startup cost.
