Some time after the unofficial invitation Dana receives a more formal invitation, hand-written and on actual paper. The flowing text states that Her Imperial Majesty Saret Neferti invites Miss Dana Lantria Asillion to join her at Sisira Palace on Mirda. The invitation seems to be mostly a formality, though the attached authentic seal leaves no doubt that this piece of paper can serve as the needed authentication in a pinch.
With the paper invitation comes a datacrystals which contains security codes used to identify Dana's craft to Mirdan traffic control and a separate set of codes to identify to the Imperial Guard that protects Sisira Palace. Also on the crystal are the frequency of the palace's flight guidance system and the codes necessary to connect to the system to navigate the airspace and mountains around the palace.
After arriving in the Smi-Halek System and authenticating to Mirda traffic control, Dana's craft is quickly directed to the correct descent path to enter the planet's atmosphere. After descending into the atmosphere towards a remote mountaineous area the craft is hailed by a military officer and security codes are exchanged, followed by connecting to the palace's flight guidance system after which a complete flight path is transmitted.
The path has the craft descend into the mountains to follow a river downstream past several waterfalls, until it rushes over a cliff into the canyon where the palace is situated. The palace itself is a vast complex with bridges arching over the depths of the canyon between the buildings on different sides of the valley. The shining golden vanes, each a hundred-and-fifty meter high, are part of the energy generation system for the palace, and complement the hydro-power used for most of the energy demand.
Looking out the window, Dana has a magnificent view of Sisira Palace and its surroundings.
((OOC: If you want to, you could use the next post to indicate what (and who, if applicable) Dana brought with her. And maybe some musings on what she expects from her visits? I have a nice image for the actual landing, so I'll post the rest of the landing and the disembarking after your first introductory post ^_^))
Dana brought along two maids. One was a young woman named Emma Jones. The other a slightly older woman named Aoi Harada. They where Dana's personal attendants, taken along to ensure their mistress wouldn't have to rely on strangers only. Their regular uniforms where the same style, though Emma's skirt reached her ankles and Aoi's reached just above the knee.
Dana had brought an assortment of traditional Astrian clothing, ranging in formality from simple informal to highly formal. She usually wore such clothes when she had free time, as she enjoyed wearing them. Her maids also had a set of traditional clothing with them for occasions where they needed to match their mistress.
She had taken a single paper book, held within a box made specially for the book. Dana finally had some time to read it now she was taking a vacation.
Lastly she had brought along her painting and sketching supplies. Which consisted of paper, pencils, canvas, brushes and paints as well as a few other necessities.
All in all, Dana had brought a lot of things. But the expert packing of her servants had managed to stuff all of it in only a few large suitcases. She had also brought a few gifts for Neferti.
One of the things Dana hoped to get is time to practice her hobby of painting. She also wanted to learn a bit more about Veolian language and history. And, of course, spend some time with Neferti.

As the ship nears the platform, the pilot notices that several security scans immediately scan the ship itself. As the ship sets down, and the hatch slowly opens, the scans finish. The air outside is what would normally be considered room-temperature and is very humid, possibly due to the close proximity to this many waterfalls. The roar of the falls is present, but does not overwhelm other sounds.
Unbeknownst to Dana and her maids an intricate network of security sensors starts scanning them, their implants and their luggace for implanted or hidden recording devices, weapons, and dangerous substances the moment step out of the vessel. If they do not trigger any of the sensors the existence of these sensors will probably remain unknown.

"Welcome to Sisira palace", the twi'lek said with a very proper bow towards Dana.
"I'm Shanora. Neferti sends her regrets that she could not be here to greet you in person. She had some matters of state to attend to due to a court case related to some very unfortunate wording in a marriage contract. She has asked me to be here in her stead."
The twi'lek acted with neither the deference nor the superiority Dana commonly experienced when interacting with veolians. And her tone was genuinly friendly.
"If you would like to freshen up I can show you to your rooms first? If you want to do something else, that's fine too. I'm available for any questions or requests you have.", she adds the final sentence with a warm smile.
Shanora closes her fan with an elegant flourish as she subtly indicates the wide walkway towards the palace.
As the twi'lek spoke with Dana some servants came up to carry her luggage away, if Dana's maids allowed it. The way the servants spoke with the maids, it is clear that they consider Dana's maids to be much more important than themselves.

The scanners told the operators the shuttle had only a small hyperdrive, unsuited for long distance travel. Given its size that wasn't surprising. The space flight control for Mirda knew the shuttle had launched from a larger ship, Dana's personal yacht. While most standards would consider the medium sized ship extravagant, it was actually modest for a woman of Dana's means. It would set down at a normal spaceport on Mirda and the shuttle would return to it once it was finished dropping off its passengers.
Dana and her maids all had ocular implants. One of the maids was a full cyborg and had only a handful of biological parts. However, the palace security would probably know enough about the implants in question to know they couldn't record anything. No weapons or dangerous substances were found.
"Very unfortunate wording indeed." Dana said, keeping her disappointment from her voice and features. "I am Dana Asillion. I think we'll take a moment to freshen up first." She showed Shanora the same courtesy she showed most people. Dana wasn't as high strung as some people expected a person of her affluence to be.
The maids showed no sign of being surprised by the servants reverence. The older maid quickly instructed the servants could carry all the bags with the exception of three smaller bags and one suitcase. It was clear the older maid had experience giving instructions such as this, not surprising considering Aoi was the head-maid of Dana's household. The more attentive people would also notice she stayed fairly close to Dana and kept an eye on her as they were guided to their chambers.
((OOC: I'm delaying that thing we discussed in our PMs until I've had the chance to make a proper news report and wiki page, as we discussed. Also, I didn't know how the image of the landing and disembarking was going to look so I waited until this post to specify what mode of transport Dana took.))

((OOC: That thing does indeed require some preparation.))
Shanora leads Dana and her maids into the palace. She does not seem to be in a hurry, giving Dana the opportunity to take in the scenery and the style of the palace. The two hooded figures follow the three women, but keep their distance. The servants carrying the luggage waited until the women moved into the palace itself before they start moving the luggage to the rooms.
The palace has no corridors to walk in, only large rooms, each decorated as luxuriously as the next. During their walk, it quickly becomes clear to Dana that there no expense has been spared in both the construction and the decoration of this palace -- and given its size as seen from the outside she would not be surprised to learn that the costs of building and maintenance of this palace are actually noticeable on the domestic budget of the Veolian Commonwealth.
Their route leads them through several gardens as well, some are simply courtyards while others are cleverly constructed to have two or three adjoined rooms that opened up to a larger courtyard. These larger courtyards featured bridges from higher floors and staircases elegantly winding through the trees in the courtyard.
As they made their way through the palace, they encounter several groups of noblewomen. Each of these groups made sure to give way to the party and bow or curtsey deeply. Those that had read up, or had experience with, veolian customs will notice that such a show of deference is used only towards the emperor and his wives, and most certainly not for foreigners.
After an interesting walk through several areas of the palace, where Dana notices that each area has a subtly different theme for its decoration and colours, the group eventually arrives at the guest rooms. Shanora walks them into a large two-story high foyer with a polished marble floor. Several sets of double doors lead deeper into the guest rooms, and two wide staircases lead to a platform that gives access to three more sets of doors.
"These are your rooms.", Shanora says with a smile as she motions towards the doors. "I was not sure if you would travel with a retinue, so I have made preparations for thirty-five servants to assist your maids in their duties.", she adds casually as she walks further into the foyer and turns around.
"I especially like the balcony of the master suite of these guest rooms, it is a very calming area. And it provides a brilliant view of the swimming pool.", she states as she motions to one of the doors on the platform.
"I will leave you to freshen up. I will be in the nearby poetry library, should you wish to find me.", she states before setting off to leave Dana to explore the guest rooms.
As she walks around the guest rooms, Dana discovers that "guest rooms" is a bit of a misnomer. The guest rooms actually consist of three complete suites each with a unique layout of rooms -- and each suite would do perfectly fine as the most expensive of five-star hotel suites, with the master suite still managing to be one step more impressive. Their luggage was already present in the rooms, which gives away the fact that there are probably servant's halls in the palace.
Among the other features in the twenty-seven rooms are: a large swimming pool that extends into from inside into a large courtyard; a well-stocked library with many different themes, thought most of the books were actually datapads, Dana eyed at least three actual paper books in protective cases; and a dojo-like room that allowed gravity to be adjusted within the room.
The door indicated as leading to the balcony actually leads to a well-appointed sitting room playfully spanning two levels through use of hovering stairs, with the upper level connecting to a large balcony that opens up to the same courtyard, offering a perfect view of the courtyard and swimming pool. The balcony also connects to the master suite as promised.
Interesting enough, there are only three bedrooms to be found in the whole guest room complex: one in each suite. And while those seem luxurious enough, there are some small hints that these rooms were not originally envisioned as bedrooms.
((OOC: I wanted to set the scene with this post, and give you an idea of the absurd wealth of the imperial family. I promise to keep the rest shorter ^_^
Feel free to fill in some of the rooms with your ideas, as long as it can somehow be explained as part of a complex of luxurious guest rooms, it will be there. With the exception of bedrooms (there's only three of them) and unmonitered holonet connections to outside the palace (they're simply not present due to security concerns).
I leave the next activity up to you, because I do not know if Dana wants to wait until Neferti is freed from her duties or if she wants to talk with Shanora about something first. Of course, Dana can also do something else, such as exploring the palace...))

Dana's maids positioned themselves at her flanks, trailing slightly behind their mistress. Aoi trailed behind a little more then Emma. Their position was such that, if the hooded figures were to try something, they could block them. Emma carried one of the bags and the suitcase the servants hadn't been allowed to carry. Aoi carried the other two bags.
Dana took in the architecture with great interest. Though she personally preferred a simpler style. The three Astrians were versed in Veolian customs and knew the noblewomen bowed for Shanora, who was basically considered to be Neferti under those customs. Dana walked with the confident stride often seen used by successful business men and women and simply let her eyes feast on the different decorations and architectural masterpieces. In contrast her maids had a more modest stride and averted their eyes from the nobles the past to avoid making eye contact.
"Thank you very much." Dana said to Shanora after they arrived in the guest rooms. "I will be sure to remember your recommendation." Then she folded her hands in front of her and made a small bow with a straight back. "Yoroshiku onegaishimasu." The two maids made the same gesture but bowed deeper. "Yoroshiku onegaishimasu." The two spoke in unison.
Once the three women had been left alone Dana nodded to Aoi. While Dana and Emma remained close to the door, Aoi walked to the centre of the room and started to carefully look around. She then walked to the nearest table, using her fingers to feel along the lower edges of the table. She carefully examined statues and plants. Like this she checked the room for any microphones and hidden cameras. If she found any, she would render them useless. Either by covering, removing or destroying them after proper examination. She only destroyed those devices that could not be blocked any other way. The removed ones where placed neatly on a table.
Aoi did all this with a remarkable speed and was finished soon. Being given the all clear Dana and Emma proceeded further into the chambers. As Dana went into the master suite, Aoi and Emma started to unpack. They quickly unfolded several collapsible racks and hung Dana's kimonos on them. Each ensemble had its own rack and one rack had only plain white kimonos, that where shorter then the other kimonos, on it. They were careful but quick. Once they finished unpacking Dana's things they quickly did their own, while their mistress explored the chambers. Finishing they returned to their mistress.
"I think I'll change into my Sakura Houmongi." Dana said. The two maids came into action as Dana started to undress. Aoi took Dana's travelling clothes, a tailored business suit, while Emma took one of the white kimonos from the rack. She helped Dana into it while Aoi put away the other clothes. After Emma had tied the white kimono down, she helped Dana into a pair of Tabi. Once that was done she took a light blue kimono from a rack with six kimonos on it. The light blue kimono was richly decorated with blossoming peach trees. Once Dana had it on Emma ensured the left side was over the right, then folded it upward to ensure it didn't drag across the floor. Dana held the fold in place herself. The top fold was at Dana's midriff. She repeated this process with next kimonos. First a light green one with different flowers, then a yellow one with a flight of birds, then an orange one with a rock garden, then a red one with white roses and finally a pink one with Stellarian cherry blossoms.
Meanwhile Aoi had started to comb Dana's hair and had braided it, before tying it in an asymmetrical bun. A short green ribbon held the bun in place. After she had done the hair, Aoi moved to do Dana's make-up. Emma just finished the last kimono as Aoi finished Dana's hair.
While Aoi did the make-up, Emma tied down the six layered kimono with the obi and made a decorative asymmetrical knot, that resembled a rose, on the opposite side of the bun. The obi was only subtly decorated. As Aoi finished the make-up, Emma prepared a pair of Zori. Once the two maids were finished Dana took a quick look in the mirror. Satisfied with the result, Dana put on the Zori and headed towards poetry library to speak with Shanora for a while. Emma followed her mistress Aoi stayed behind to give a few instructions to the thirty-five servants that were assigned to Dana. First and foremost, to specifically instruct them NOT to touch any of the kimonos. Each and every one of the kimonos was handwoven from some of the finest silk in the Union. The ensemble currently worn by Dana was worth over seventy million credits and this was only a fraction of the thirteen layered kimono Dana had brought.
As Dana walked toward the poetry library her Zori gently announced her presence as they clicked on the floor as she walked.
((OOC: That became a bit longer then expected...))

Aoi did not find a single surveillance device. Even after double-checking she did not turn up anything. It was clear that no surveillance devices were to be found anywhere in the guest rooms.
The thirty-five servants appear to be experienced and well-trained, and have no problem following Aoi's instructions.
Meanwhile, Dana arrives in the poetry library. The library itself is actually rather small with only three agains the back wall. The main feature of this library are the large open window providing a magnificent view of the pentagonal garden in front of a backdrop of stepped terraces. Shanora is sitting on a pillow near a low table. Her fan is closed and put down on the table, and she is reading from a datapad.
When Dana enters, she quickly puts down the pad and picks up her fan. As she rises from the pillow, she flicks open the fan.
Instead of replying immediately, she seems slightly taken aback by Dana's appearance. After a moment where she looks at Dana appreciatively, she replies.
"I am afraid that this room does not do you justice.", she states as she subtly motions to the pillows near the window.

Dana took off her Zori at the door before entering the library further. They were picked up by Emma, who placed them neatly beside the door. Dana sat down on one of the pillows Shanora had gestured to in the Seiza position. She then looked at Emma, who quietly stood next to the entrance.
"Emma, you can return to our chambers. See if Aoi needs your help. Once you are done, the both of you can have some free time until I call for you." Dana told her maid. "Yes, mistress." The maid said with a bow. Just as she was about to open the door, Dana interrupted her.
"Oh, and tell Aoi to behave. We're guests in a different faction, I expect her to conduct herself in a manner befitting of my household." After Emma acknowledged the order with a bow she left.
"My apologies for that." Dana said as she turned to Shanora. "May I ask what you are reading, Miss Shanora?"

Shanora sits down only after Emma has left. She also sat down in the seiza position. Funnily enough, she seemed to have experience with it and sat down smoothly and properly.
The twi'lek raised a painted eyebrow at Dana's use of the word "miss".
"Please, call me Shanora. I think the time for such formalities has passed.", she replied with a modest smile.
"I was reading a bundle of collected Astrian works translated to galactic basic. But I am afraid that much of the poems' essence is lost in the translation. The shorter astrian poetry forms leans heavily on cultural context and historical knowledge, which makes them difficult to translate."
"Fortunately, I know enough of astrian culture to know that the style of kimono you are wearing is usually worn by married women. Should I congratulate you?"

Dana tilted her head sideways, looking quizzically at Shanora for a moment.
"I'm afraid you'll have to find a better source of information on astrian culture, Shanora. A proper source would have told you marriage doesn't exist in our culture. The whole concept was only recently introduced by immigrants and isn't recognised by the state as it is in many other factions. Though I can understand the confusion. This type of kimono is usually worn by women who have at least one partner or aren't looking for one." She explained.
"I chose this one because it is semi-formal and because it's the right season."
"I must admit I don't read a lot of poetry. Do you often read astrian poetry, or do you prefer other styles?"

"I must admit I don't read a lot of poetry. Do you often read astrian poetry, or do you prefer other styles?"

"It must have been a translation error than, maybe married was not meant as meaning to be in a marriage, but meaning to be in a long-term relationship... That makes a lot of sense actually."
"I often read poetry, not necessarily astrian", Shanora said with a smile, "At the moment I have a special fondness for bisidnian poems."

"I see." Dana responded.
"Shanora, may I ask if there is anything expected of me while I am here? I noticed there are other nobles here and was wondering if I am expected to socialize or to avoid them."
"I am also unsure what my position is compared to them. I realise my position as Neferti's guest gives me some leeway, but I would rather not come across as unsophisticated or rude. I don't doubt my actions will reflect both on her as on Astrians in general."

Shanora perks up when the topic of conversation changes to expectations and social status.
"I must admit that your position is a difficult one. Expectations are always subjective, and depending on who you ask they might differ greatly in this case."
She flourishes her fan for a moment, as if fanning some air out of the window.
"Everyone in the palace will agree that you are here as a guest of my mistress. And the lowest common denominator of everyone's expectations is that -- to put it bluntly -- you and she will be spending a lot of time naked. Given the fact that you are a mere commoner, and a cyborg, some expect little more from you. But as I said, that is the lowest common denominator. I am sure that you will find many here that think more highly of you.
Shanora once again flourishes her fan, and closes it with a soft snap before putting it on the windowsill.
"My mistress has not shown any expectation that you socialize with the other ladies at court, but neither has she spoken against it. Yet, given my mistress' affinity for you, I would be remiss if I did not warn you of the dangers of staying distant. I think you will be regarded more favourably by others if you do socialize with them. After all, the court is a place of socializing and intrigue. Not participating in what is effectively a competition for the empress' attention makes for angry stares and venomous whispers.
That being said, your position is difficult. I can only say that a veolian with your influence, appearance, and connections would be well respected, even if they raised into the nobility from a common background. Yet noble titles are not all. Most at court will be gracious towards you, and treat you well regardless. It never hurts to be nice to those that have half a world's economy at their back and call. Though some will dislike you because of what you are, or because they envision themselves in my mistress' bed."
"If you want to mingle, I suggest you seek out some information about those you intend to speak to."
Shanora's expression lightens up as she speaks about the social machinations at court, clearly a favourite topic of hers.
"Oh. A point of warning. You probably already know that veolian courtly culture in general, and her majesty's court in specific, the asking and giving of favours of an intimate nature is not uncommon, and is simply seen as one of the many facets of courtly culture. Though usually done discretely, those in the palace are somewhat more public with their liaisons. Sometimes explicitly so to provoke jealousy or anger."
She has a slightly worried look as she explains this warning.
"Please do not be offended by such."

"As long as they keep their hands to themselves, there won't be any trouble. If they don't, I'll give them a fair warning."
Dana stated calmly.
"Astrian etiquette dictates a more reserved way, but I will adjust and not be offended. What's the best way to reject such offers or requests, without insulting anyone?"

"Rest assured that no one in their right mind would lay a hand on you without your permission.", Shanora seems unsurprised at the idea of propositions of ambiguous consent.
"Depending on the proposition, and the person offering, you will be appreciated for your wit with a cleverly phrased rebuttal. But a polite rejection will always be respected as such. Know that my mistress will not think any less of you if you decide to fully embrace veolian courtly culture. She usually flirts with other ladies, but is reserved in accepting advances. Even so, she sometimes accepts, as do I."

"Very well." Dana nodded.
"I don't think I will, though. I'm not interested in casual sex. I prefer an actual relationship, but even if anyone else offers or asks that I probably will refuse. Eleven is a nice limit, don't you think?"

Shanora lets out a small giggle, clearly of amusement instead of derison.
"Well, I think that eleven is a lot actually. I wouldn't even begin to understand how you find the time to do that."
She seems glad that Dana isn't irritated by her warning.
"Do not worry about it too much. I know that most ladies here would view such a proposal as more akin to an invitation to join a game of tennis. Physically gratifying, but ultimately little more than a pleasant pastime. My mistress is better able to put into words the reasons for this. Though personally, I think it has little to do with reason or culture and more with the -- in my opinion zealously overactive -- veolian drive to procreate."
She looks out the window a moment as a vessel approaches the palace grounds and sets down on a landing pad in the complex on the other side of the canyon.
"Is there anything you would like to have arranged during your stay here? I know that there's enough staff available for most things, but I like to help out with such things."
"And if you want to surprise my mistress the staff isn't all that helpful.", she adds as an afterthought.

Dana also took notice of the vessel.
"Well I do have two gifts for Neferti, to express my gratitude for her invitation. But I do not believe that will require any arrangements." She mused.
"I was hoping she would want to pose for a painting, somewhere with a nice background. I would need people to remain clear of my view, but it's not much of a surprise." Dana thought out loud.
"Apart from that I can't really think of anything right now, but I will ask your help if anything comes to mind. May I ask what the court here thinks of exotic ceremonies? It might help me mingle if I can present some Astrian high society traditions."

"I am sure that she would not mind posing for a painting. I suggest that you ask her out for a day of visiting the palace grounds. There are several very nice quiet mostly untouched areas of nature around the palace. You can be sure no no one would walk into your view, nor walk in on anything else you and her majesty decide to do."
Shanora slowly waved her fan as she thought about exotic ceremonies.
"Members of the court have observed or participated in exotic ceremonies on several occasions. As long as it is clear that you wish to present a ceremony or performance from your culture, you will find many interested in it. Despite our stance on several topics in the senate, almost every veolian is aware that we are a member of the Union and that cultural integration and change is inevitable. In fact, we welcome the diversity."
"Simply make sure that you first present such traditions to those more sympathetic to your being here. And try to avoid ceremonies that highlight the assumed equality present within Astrian culture -- wether between men and women, or between commoners and nobles -- several nobles at court will take it personally."
Shanora manner seems to indicate that she had little more to discuss, yet she remained seated in case Dana wanted to talk some more.

After having spend several weeks at the palace, the time has come for Dana to head home again. Business only goes on for so long without her personal attention.
The empress personally accompanies her to the landing pad where her shuttle was already waiting. Her luggage and other things were already moved her earlier byt servants, under the watchful eye of her assistants.
"I very much enjoyed our time together", the empress states as she takes hold of Dana's hands, "I hope that we will see each other again soon."

"I very much enjoyed our time together", the empress states as she takes hold of Dana's hands, "I hope that we will see each other again soon."
"I also enjoyed my time with you." Dana replied to the empress with a smile. One suitcase had remained outside the shuttle.
"I had wanted to give you this earlier, but I couldn't find a right moment." Dana said as as she looked at the suitcase. Aoi picked it up and unlocked it before presenting it to the empress.
"A small sign of my gratitude for your invitation." As Aoi opened the suitcase and showed its content to the empress, the 'small sign' Dana spoke of was in fact a considerable fortune. It was a thirteen layered kimono, similar to the one she had worn during the diner. The different layers displayed flowers native to Mirda and patterns related to House Saret.
While it was a beautiful ensemble, its true value didn't lie in its visual impact. Only one juusanhitoe was made every ten years, completely by hand of only the finest of silks. Only a select few had the affluence to purchase one. Giving it as a gift was practically unheard of. It was a symbol of status and generosity that Dana could do this.
"Thank you, for the wonderful time." Dana before giving Neferti a small kiss. She made one final bow and boarded the shuttle along with her maids.
The shuttles engines roared to life as the ramp closed. The shuttle took off and flew away into the distance.
