"Fellow senators,

In the previous elections, I promised to lower tax bracket 1 back to its original 10%. I have done so with an eye toward maintainability, and using the strengths of the Union to engineer an enhancement to the Bozzy Spine. The freed (:tax) will now be used to lower the tax bracket as promised.

In the upcoming election I will investigate the viability of creating Union-run trade hubs for a significant increase in trade capacity within the Union for each member. These hubs will be based on the talk by Prof. Dr. Orlandazi Fundamixo during the G-22 summit.

This will allow the smaller economies of the Union to compete with established ones due to much cheaper shipping of larger volumes. It will also give a boost to multiple industrial sectors, including the (:crystals) and (:metals) industries."

- This message was delivered with the senators of the Praetorian Empire and the Sundarian Federation standing to the left and the right of the candidate, both immediately voicing their second for the candidacy.

"Senator, as I'm sure you're well aware, outposts are very expensive to build and maintain. I believe, in order to cover all Union members, at least three outpost would be needed.

This would put the total cost of your plan at around the 50.000 (:tax). Where exactly do you plan to get such large sums of tax from?

Moreover you claim these trade hubs will boost industrial sectors. Prof. Dr. Orlandazi Fundamixo's presentation indicates nothing of this sort.

What exactly are you basing that claim on?"

((OOC: edit: Made a miscalculation in the cost.))

"I agree that we would probably need three outposts.

I base my claims on the basic economic insight that every senator should have. The fact that these outposts need to be built, and that the (:superstructure-components) industry requires large amounts of (:metals) is a clear indication that the (:metals) industry will receive a boost. Further (:metals) will be consumed by the increased demand for (:mtcf) later on.

The claim that the (:crystals) industry will see a boost is based on the the fact that part of the upkeep of these outposts contains (:crystals), and on the fact that the other products that are used to maintain these outposts is transportable through the holonet. And as you are well aware, (:holonet-relays) require enormous amounts of (:crystals) to fabricate."

"As to the amounts of (:tax) involved Senator Doshima, you seem to have arrived at roughly the correct amount through incorrect reasoning. To cover all Union members we can make do with only a single outpost. Our technological advances will allow us to support multiple trade fleets on the limited real estate provided by that outpost, and those will already be enough.

You seem to be under the impression that this project must be finished in a single 20 (:turn) period... I agree that several investments will have to be made, among which the surveying of an outpost site suitable to sustaining the large amounts of traffic. 50000 (:tax) may seem like a large sum, but with the extension of the Bozzy Spine only three years ago the Union has shown to be capable of undertaking projects of this magnitude.

Time and time again the larger economies have shown solidarity by donating varying amounts to projects benefiting all members!

Should I be elected, the Praetorian Empire has already promised to donate 4500 (:tax) towards this goal, in the form of a suitable outpost site on the Bozzy Spine. The Veolian Commonwealth is willing to donate another 5500 (:tax) if the project is deemed viable. With only these two commitments, the total cost has already been reduced by 10000 (:tax)."

"It is certainly true that the larger worlds have made very generous donations with no direct benefit to themselves.

However, you promise donations if you are elected. If I wasn't so sure it would never happen, I would almost think you where attempting to bribe the senate. Which is, of course, ridiculous to think.

For both the Veolian Commonwealth and the Praetorian Empire would certainly be willing to donate such sums for a specific goal for the Union, wouldn't you?"

"I did nothing of the sorts, I promised that the Veolian Commonwealth is willing to donate 5500 (:tax) if the project is deemed viable. Nowhere did I say that this is somehow dependant upon being elected.

The Praetorian Empire is fully within their rights as a sovereign Union member to determine when and why they donate their hard-earned outpost site to the Union. Your suggestion that this is an attempt to bribe the senate is not only preposterous, but shows a lack of faith in the members of Union.

Of course, if senator Acehtoo wishes to undertake this project if I am not elected I would strongly support her in this. But it seems that she has other, less well-defined, plans. And if she does decide to undertake this project, she would do well to announce so before the elections, so that the senate knows what they are voting for."

"The Astrian Colonial Authority has grown very far since their early days in the Union. Even an amount of 1500 (:tax) would be an immense benefit to other Union members, I am sure that we can count on your financial support as well when we begin this project? "

"The work of Prof. Dr. Orlandazi Fundamixo indeed seems viable and this would indeed boost the Unions economy.

But we would like to know what other non-economic plans you have? Are you planning to enhance ties with the Core Hegemony or other factions?

Furtermore, we think that Union-wide laws need to be made as to improve collaboration. What is your view on this matter? "

"I plan on doing several large-scale military exercises, to ensure that the Union military does not grow lax or complacent after our defeat of the Mandalorians. Next to that I hope to review several of the Union's current spendings to see if a more initiative-centric approach can be taken."

"I do not think that collaboration can be forced on Union members, such needs to come from the Union members themselves. I am willing to discuss proposals for laws that subsidize or otherwise encourage collaborative projects and actions, and look forward to your proposal."
