Special Proposal: Artificial Intelligence
Short answer: No!
Sorry but you are not creating a special that gives you magically 9
. This can never be balanced since you can spend 10 bio on this race and spend the rest on a normal race....

This also seems to have the problem of being able to stack 0.1
population on every planet and recieving bonuses as if it would have 10

Do'h. I didn't even think of that one.
I think Mercury should stick with the
benefit.you forget that larger population does not work anymore with this special. So Fedor and Brend are close by or past the effect of this special, and they are still growing.
The bonus production can be tweaked, and maybe some limitations of the minimal amount of population for this special to work. For example at least 1
per planet.
Another idea I just had:
This racial characteristic replaces the three characteristics and is mutual exlusive with the augmented species special
Any values and fluff can still be adjusted of course, this is just an basic idea.
This special race characteristic opens new opportunities for players to create their own special race. But this might also create more edge cases we do not like.

Special: Special species
This race is special and works different than normal races.special race characteristic: AI
This race is in fact one single AI. This gives the race a +10 production bonus (or something else) but cannot grow and cannot create a jedi. This racial characteristic replaces the three characteristics and is mutual exlusive with the augmented species special

I think the bonus of acting as 10
is just too powerful for a special so that it would need too many disadvantages so that it can't be min-maxed and this has to be accounted for in all future decisions regarding system balance so as to not break anything.
The proposed need 1
for example I would just get a Orange / Orange Binary Star, 3 large planets, take this special and 2 heavy gravity worlds, and a frozen ocean on the large planet in the cold orbit. Now put atmosphere IV and natural life onone of the goldilocks large planets, and atmosphere 3 and natural life on the other. That has you 3 large planets with natural life, all of them with effectively 10
on them and you still have 16
and a special left to do something like tilted axis.
You could take away natural life and atmosphere IV from the one large planet and get atmosphere 1 on the one that already has atmosphere 3 now, or just terraform it later.
edit: The point is that this special's benefit gives you 100 production bonus per zone of perhaps multiple planets, where as the standard of specials is a 200 bonus on one zone. This special does come at the cost of your race's population bonus you can effectively ignore your population and dump everything into atmospheres to where your population would never grow to 10
anyway.

How about we stop thinking up specials for things that aren't used? And we're especially not going to introduce 'special racial characteristics'. The whole idea of the game is to be constructive instead of restrictive, so we don't need constructions such as these: after all, any player can come up with something weird, and propose a special. We don't need a generic 'special species' special.
Besides, go and read the special proposed by Mercury before spamming things he's not going to use.

Thank you all for the kind proposals, but I think I'll stick with the holonet trade capacity bonus for now. It works for my purposes. Unless someone has an entirely new idea that fits with my written idea, can I get official approval on that one?
