"No wait, the console I was working on showed a unfinished protocol, forcefieldctrl activate gam... We can activate it to contain anything in it. While at the other hand, we can lock ourselves out of the cluster, as well. It might backfire as well given the current power issues, but given the fact that the soldier was activating it, I think we can safely activate the shields." Trigiel then turned to the professor, "doc, any advice on the shields?"

Trigiel had still a lot of other questions, but he had the feeling that they had to move on ASAP.

While S4 walked around the room, taking recordings left and right, the professor seemed surprised at T'Sal's gesture of comfort.

"I don't... Never mind, you are Jedi.", he replied to T'Sal's statement on lawyers. "As to the creature's behaviour. The videos make it seem like it is at least aware of what camera's do. After all, it deliberately stepped back to destroy the camera in the auxiliary laboratory. So, either it has some very intricate instincts, or it is at least aware of something complex as a camera. Then again, it could just have been trying to eat a juicy animal with a large black eye..."

At that moment S4 came to a halt next to T'Sal, and bleeped that it was done with its analysis: nothing out of the ordinary, except for a single body. It listed some standard equipment, the same as the Jedi discovered on the previous soldier.

The professor took his time to think about Trigiel's question.

"There is the risk that you lock down parts of the facility you want to access, or that you unlock shields better left in place. Maybe she", he pointed to T'Sal, "can use her current level of access to bind our radios to the facilities internal communication system? It should work even during such storms, and it has a completely separated power supply. That way, I can stay here, and activate and deactivate any shields you can give me the barrier identification code for. If you lock the door when you leave the security centre, I should be relatively safe..."

((OOC: Whoops. Apologies for forgetting S4.))

T’sal listens to the professors’ explanation. Maybe the creature is sentient, but now is not the time to speculate about it. They need to continue. T’sal pets S4 on the head when he is finished with his analysis. Now they are ready here. T’sal is moving away from the console as Trigiel starts to talks and states his question. T’sal comes to a halt; she had thought that he was finished with his console. The professor answers Trigiel question and points towards T’sal.

“We already have special headsets to communicate. I do not want to rely too much on this system as you never know who else has access.” T’sal shows the professor her headset. T’sal starts thinking. ‘Is the professor scared? They would need him at the server room to get access, right? This does not feel right. “Good idea professor, I will check them now and prepared for them to open and close once we get there. We need to have some kind of remote access as me need YOU to get access to the main server. A door or shield should not pose too much trouble as we can Force our way in. We can better not separate so you will be safe with us."

T’sal takes a close look towards professor Dewa, she tries to read his intentions. First he begs to get to the server room and now he wants to stay here. That does not add up and she waits for his reaction. After that she moves to the consoles and check the doors and shields on the route and tries to get a remote activation system.

"Yes, I saw that the creature shows intelligent behaviour. He also didn't kill the female warrior right away what is very interesting.

Hmm, maybe we can reason with it..." He thought out loud, "Well only one reasonable way to find out."

Then he turned to the doctor: "I like the idea of having access, however, I do not like the idea of leaving you behind, doctor. It seems to me that the creature walks around, so if we stay together, we can protect you. It would be a shame if you get killed here because that creature sneaks up from behind.

And T'sal," he continued, "we only have three special headsets. Also, you do not want that your headset is hacked, but you do not mind that S4 is hacked? I think it is best to let S4 here, he can control the panel, and it wont be as bad when he get sneaked up from behind. The biggest problem then is that we might be trapped between forcefields, so we always should let a path open for us.

How far will our headsets go anyway in this facility? I guess not all the way."

Trigiel made a small list in his head:

  • They needed access to the servers,
  • They had the server adress
  • The doc could tell them the other necessary info, it was probably something like: map x, then y, select all copy pasta.
  • They needed to be careful for the weird beast... wait... what did that soldier said again? care four wierd biest? Dammit did he knew more?
  • And then it was probably monster hunter time.

He decided to share his thoughts with the others: "We can use some control over the shields, I say lets S4 do that. We need to stay togetherm and see in the server room what we can find. The doc has to tell us what he need as well. When we're finished there, it will probably be monster hunt time." The later part came out a little more happy than intended.

"That creature seemd very odd indeed Trigiel." Nebesnogo agreed.

"Maybe we can lock the door on this place I would have to check to see if it is strong enough to hold something out that is as strong as that creature." He said while thinking about leaving the professor behind and hot liking it at all.

"I think the headset might have a problem with the steel used in the construction of this building. That might disrupt allot of the signal."

"Ehh Trigiel when we have the data its probably gettink the heck out of here time and make sure our data is safe."

"Yes... You have a special headset", the professor replied to T'Sal's remark about having special headsets. "I haven't got such equipment. Besides, I am a scientist, not a soldier; I'd much rather stay here, where it is safe. Out there, I'll probably get killed just like the scientist in the video. That creatures seemed very scientist-unfriendly.

Besides, I can't really help you with the data. As I already told you: the data is stored somewhere, and I don't know where. I would just be in the way."

T'Sal studied the professor while he replied. She got the feeling that there was no trickery or subterfuge. instead, the professor was very afraid, probably because of the videos he just saw; the creature did seem rather fond of killing scientists.

The three Jedi quickly talked over their plan, and after that, T'Sal had a look at the red console.

What she saw wasn't good: the system had switched to manual control. This effectively meant that all higher functionality was disabled, and that it would require hours of work to get a basic remote control working. And even if that worked, it would leave whatever was being used as remote control very vulnerable to slicing. In manual override mode anything used as remote control has to be connected to the system through the facilities internal communication system. And the internal communication system is operating on 'promiscuous emergency mode', meaning that all communication was passed through without security checks.

The Jedi had to choose: wait a few hours while T'Sal writes a remote control program either to control the force fields from afar, or the communicate with S4 while he remains (both of which would also require coupling S4 and/or T'Sal's datapad with the system), go with the professors proposal and slice the headsets into the communication system, or just ignore the force fields.

((OOC: @T'Sal: Mind trick is used to influence others, not to read others. However, with 10, your check is still high enough to get an general feel for the professors mood and intentions.

Note: creating programs is done with the Programming skill, not with Slicing!))

“I do not trust the systems as it already has looked me out. I do not think S4 will do any better. The system is in emergency mode, so the broadcast is everywhere. You need manual override so a remote is too much trouble. I do not like leaving anyone or thing here. So we will just have to see what we will encounter outside as we go.”

If the others agree on leaving together T’sal walks to the professor. T’sal did not like to cheat on the professor, but he clearly needs some forceful support to get him along.T’sal would rather have done things in a subtle way, but she is not planning on risking S4, her datapad or the professor alone or connected to the system. Operation brute force is then the only option. Lingering here did not seem a good plan.

“Professor Dewa, the control room had not helped that dead soldier over there. You better stay with us, that is much saver.”

As the guys first want to turn up this place instead of moving T’sal has some time to convince the professor in a normal way instead of using a mind trick.

“Professor, I am a scientist too. I got my lab coat on and I think that creature will find me a hard snack. We will keep you save professor, trust us.”

T’sal stands now next to the professor and S4 joins them. T’sal also takes a look around and waits for the boys to finish.

The three Jedi studied the security centre, with a focus on the doors and other points of entry. Trigiel made a mental inventory of all points of entry, checking every little nook for possible options. At the same time Nebesnogo used his knowledge about construction and engineering to analyse the room. T'Sal helped out by pointing out some of the points of entry, but just by standing next to the professor, she was of limited help.

Nebesnogo concluded that with the doors closed, the room should withstand serious attempts to enter. This seemed logical, as this was the security centre and this also protected the data centre. Meanwhile, Trigiel spotted an interesting fact: the door opening contained force field projectors. But what was really interesting was that none of the points of entry showed any sign of being forced open.

After conferring with each other, the Jedi determined two things. First, if the room is locked down, it should be able to hold out against even a determined group of explosive experts, so a creature that has to break in through brute force wouldn't get in. Even better, if they could rig the security system stand-alone generator to the force field projectors of the security centre, the room could be sealed from the inside with force field.

Secondly, there was no indication that the creature forced its way into the security centre. If it had been here, someone or something let it in -- none of the points of entry showed any sign of being forced open. Then again, there was a dead soldier near the console.

"All right, it looks like that this area is pretty safe. If the professor likes to stay here, it is fine with me. Professor Karinth, are you sure you want to stay here? The doors were not forced open, and the female soldier still died. So it looks like the creature either has some buddy to open the doors, or the female soldier died suddenly due to eminent spontaneously internal blood explosions, speaking of which, I haven't checked it actually, well lets do that first."

While Trigiel went back to the female body to see what here cause of death actually was, he continued speaking: "Of course, she could have opened the doors as well, but then there is no clear reason why she came so far with executing commands, also, if she could do it, other people might be able to open the doors as well, and we are missing a lot of them."

Just before Trigiel went examine the body, he looked the professor straight in the eye with his headlight: "If you come with us, we three can protect you, if you stay here, you stand no change if the creature appears one way or another. Also... ehmnonevermind." Trigiel wanted to say more but given T'sal her behaviour, he changed his mind, he didn't wanted to scare her more.

T’sal looks to Trigiel. Having a good secured place seems logical, but it seems to have been bypassed.

“It is getting stranger and stranger. Somebody has to be playing foul here or they won the intergalactic lottery of one in a gazillion chances unlucky streak.”

Says T’sal cynical. She really wants to move on and find out what coursed the power failure and what kind of other things they seem to be have been doing here.

Professor Dewa Karinth looked pensive for the slightest of moments.

"Thank you for the offer Jedi, but I'd really rather stay here. Just give me a communications device so you can contact me, and I can enable and disable forcefields along your way. I have great confidence in you, but I am a scientist, not a solder. I would only be a hindrance."

Trigiel, meanwhile, carefully searched the body for any indication of trauma. As could be expected, she was bruised severely from her run-in with the creature. So, after removing her armour, and discovering that she wore only some underwear underneath it, he continued his check. She did not seem to have any significant wounds or blood loss. From the video, it seemed as if the creature slammed her to the ground with a lot of force. So the fact that she had not broken any bones was remarkable. Of course, that part of the video was a bit unclear because the creature acted very fast.

His careful checking worked out in the end though, as he spotted something: it appeared she had two small puncture wounds on her throat -- they did not explain why she was dead though, such a wound is far too small to be deadly. There was another thing that bothered him: rigor mortis had not yet set in. This could be possible if she died recently, but if she was dead for a few hours, it should already be observable. He could not pinpoint what bothered him, but he had a gut feeling that she was not dead.

((OOC: @Trigiel: As you used vision, I took it that you wanted to check for wounds and such.))

"Guys, the female soldier looks dead, but does not feel dead. Given the two punctures in her throat, I take it that she is poisoned by some sort of paralysing venom. Or another kind of venom what prevents rigor mortis from setting in. I say we do not let here stay with the doc, as she might be a security threat if she wakes up. Confusion and such."

Trigiel also wanted to continue, but they couldn't just go, not yet. "Al right, lets make sure we continue prepared. T'sal, please hook the doctor in the comm channel. Nebesnogo, please help me making a stretcher for the soldier. I want to take her with me, or at least move her to another room then the doc to keep him safe. And its best if she moves as little as possible.

Karinth, please get familiar with the system, now you have some time and can afford small mistakes."

Trigiel took a look around for things they could use for a stretcher. They needed two poles and something flat, A peace of cloth or metal sheet for example. Then he got an idea. He took is lightsaber and cut two poles from a fence in the centre. Then reached up for some panels that were hiding cables.

If Trigiel couldn't reach the panels, maybe Nebesnogo could, or Nebesnogo could find something else.

Trigiel held his lightsaber carefully against the pole and the panel, effectively welding them together on several points.

Not that they had a stretcher, they needed to carefully put the soldier on it. He and the doctor were probably the best choice to do that, else somebody else from the party would do as well, it didn't really matter.

((Check: 11 = 4 Force Level + 5 Vision + 2 Mechanical Engineer -- For finding good materials for the stretcher))
((OOC: I assumed that there are some fences in the centre (the image showed some, but the image is only inspirational) I also assumed making a stretcher was trivial and not worthy of an check))

Trigiel quickly spotted some fence posts and a few panels, and started rigging together a stretcher. Nebesnogo lend him a hand, as everyone is well aware that two pair of hands do more work then one.

While Trigiel and Nebesnogo worked their handicraft, T'Sal walks over to the woman and concentrates on her. At first, the woman appears to be dead. But after a short while, T'Sal feels the subtlest of ripples in the force. Weird enough, this didn't feel like a disturbance: it felt more like a calming presence, a feeling of joy and home. Not being able to exactly determine whether the woman is dead or alive, T'Sal orders S4 to carefully analyse the woman.

The communications subsystem was surprisingly easy to use, despite being put into manual control mode. And in little to no time, T'Sal hooked up their headsets to the communications system, allowing them to communicate over longer distances, and with the professor. She put some effort in making sure that their communication wasn't put through the system unencrypted: she was able of putting a simple encryption up, nothing that would hold a determined slicer, but at least it prevent anyone to just simply listen in.

A few minutes later, Trigiel and Nebesnogo finished their stretcher and the metal cooled. The stretcher looked decidedly uncomfortable, with the metal panels roughly welded to the two fence posts with burn marks all over them. Maybe a lightsaber was not the best tool to weld to pieces of metal together, it would have to do however, as no welding kit had been seen so far.

Professor Dewa looked at the stretcher, then at Trigiel and Nebesnogo, then back at the stretcher. Deciding he had nothing to say, he kept silent and went back to work at the console, following Trigiel's orders to get familiar with the system.

Just after Nebesnogo offered his insight about communicating with whatever the scientist on the video was speaking to, S4 budded in with the results of its analysis: "The woman is dead."

((OOC: To explain why T'Sal gets some feeling about the soldier: Trigiel's Force Level + Intuition = 7, while T'Sal's is is 10. This is a significant difference, with T'Sal clearly being more capable to detect patterns and get sudden insights.

The safest room is the security centre, followed by the data centre. After that, the safest locations seem to be the holding pens for larger creatures -- though with the current problems it might not be the best plan to trust those.

Seeing that the stretcher didn't looked as comfortable as intended, Trigiel looked around for materials to soften the stretcher. Sadly he could not test the comfort of the stretcher, his metal body simply wasn't made for testing comfort. "Doc, can we use your labcoat? and T'sal, I think the kitten pillow will be useful too to make the stretcher at least a little comfortable. Do any of you have something we can use to soften the stretcher or cover the soldier?" He asked.

When Trigiel founded and used everything soft around for the stretcher, he used the force to slowly and carefully move the would-be-dead soldier on the stretcher. Then he took a look to see if he could use something to cover the soldier as well, to prevent her from cooling to much. If the armour was useful he used that, if the party members had something to cover her he used that.

"Al right, I am ready to go. Karinth, leave an escape route back for us open. I don't want to get trapped between shields. We will leave the soldier in the server room, where she can't attack you." Then Trigiel used the force to grab the stretcher and carefully moved it to the server room, if the rest was coming along.
