The professor quickly handed over his lab coat to Trigiel. Together with T'Sal's jedi cloak he fashioned together layer of doubtable comfort on the stretcher. As it was the best clothing he could find, he carefully put her armour back on the soldier.

While Trigiel used the force to carry the soldier towards the door to the data centre, Nebesnogo asked the professor about suspended animation. The professor looked pensive for a moment, and replied: "Not that I know of. Maybe with enough training. Hemet Veolians are capable of controlling almost all bodily functions by conscious though, so with training it should be possible. I agree that you should save her, if there is a chance."

The professor turned to the console, and entered a few commands. The door to the server centre opened with a loud hiss, and the Jedi moved to the next room. After the Jedi entered the room, the professor closed the door behind them.

The datacetre was enormous, and it contained row after row of stacked storage units without any identifying marks. Remarkably, the data centre seemed to be fully powered.

"Test, one, two, three.", the crackling voice of professor Dewa Karinth came through the communications gear. "Jedi, do you hear me? It seems I can open and close any door or force field that is powered. But I need the identification code of the door or projector you want me to toggle."

T'Sal realised that, even with the server address, finding the correct storage server by hand is not going to be easy. After all, she only had an address of the server, identifying it on the network. Luckily, she knew her way around such systems, and quickly sliced into an auxiliary data traffic management module and activated the diagnostic mode. One of the cables coming out of the module started pulsing with green light, indicating a path through the data centre.

A short walk later, they were in the middle of the data centre, and the cable led not to a single storage unit, but to the whole rack. From floor to ceiling, a green light was blinking on each of the storage units in this rack. T'Sal connected her datapad to the storage unit, and called up an index of files.

Unfortunately, the index kept going, and going, and didn't seem to end. The names of the files were complete gibberish, and there files that were easily ten times as old as T'Sal self. Whatever was being stored here, it was an enormous amount of data. Way too much to quickly analyse, or even store on the combined capacity of T'Sal's datapad and S4!

((OOC: I skipped the 'figure out which server you need' because I believe that it doesn't add much to the story. You already knew the server address, and with T'Sal slicing score you can easily find and access the correct storage unit. If one of you wishes to interrupt, go ahead. Of course, I left you the puzzle of 'finding what we want to see on the server' :P

@Trigiel: Medicine is for operations and specialistic diagnosis and such -- knowing how to position someone is First Aid. But don't worry, you easily made the check to move her in a comfortable way.))

"Test test, test successful. If we are going into the lab, I prefer to keep the doors behind us open. I hate to be stuck between shields when a monster is charging me.

We will look for the identification code of the door, or a better way if it present itself."
Trigiel said over the comm to the hemet scientist.

Trigiel looked over the shoulder of T'sal along to the data, what was quite easy given that he was a head or two bigger than the young hiocan. "Well, I have little knowledge over computers, but this seems quite some work to sort by hand.

T'sal, you know programming, I take it you have some ideas of how to sort this. Nebesnogo, can you fly around in the datacentre? Maybe there is a terminal with a search engine on it, or a useful program we can use to access the files. And maybe there are tracks of other soldiers around here, although I have the feeling that they are not here.

I will keep an eye on the female and see if I can do anything for her.

T'sal, does S4 has indexing data, maybe he can be of use. Oh, and we should not forget the main side quest of getting the rice plant research data."

"Doc, the servers seems quite a mess. What was your plan to get your data?"

Now that the cyborg had a better idea that the soldier might be alive, he took a look at her again, to see if moving her didn't made her more dead. He also checked if he could analyse the small wound and if there was anything he could do to safe her. T'sal, I think I need the research tools from S4 to help checking the soldier. Can S4 multitask the analysing and the data sorting?"

The professor replied quickly: "A technician told me what to do. He told me that it isn't possible to find the necessary information, unless you have access to the master index server. Wait, I have the list on me...

Ok. I'll read the list to you:
  1. First, read the master index decryption token from file 2e18dcd0a26c4adcc45ad7d1a001fbf7cbfdd9986b027f1eb8779a0e417e449b, and store it on your own device.
  2. Find the master project index. This is a file with the name 'fc4513a8778f8a5fdde1b5df4e7e49591c5446dce1181ff7e6544a29cb136146'
  3. Use the master index decryption token to decrypt the master project index.
  4. The decrypted master project index will list which file is the index for your project (and all other project indices of course, but just ignore those)
  5. Now find your project's index file, and decrypt as well. (Again with with the master index decryption token.)
  6. The decrypted index will list all file information and the names of the files on the storage system.
  7. When you are done, delete the master index decryption token! I am not kidding. If you don't we're both in serious trouble.
Oh, and the 'delete the master index decryption token' part is underlined."

T’sal tries sorting the files on date and time as the recently used files are on top. As the professor has her headset T’sal is waiting for the others to finish their conversation and then relay the information to her. It is good they got their own secured communication system as the information Trigiel asks for could be quite sensitive.

T’sal takes notes down the instruction from Trigiel on her datapad and then ask for a finally confirmation if it is correct and she then proceed. She follows the instruction and downloads the files for the professor into S4. She waits with step 7 until she if finished. T'sal takes a look to the other projects in the index to see if there is something interesting.

“Okay guys I am now downloading the files for the professor to S4. I will now look for more info on the special research project 2-7 beta."

Now it is time to get the second piece of information they wanted namely of subject 2-7 beta. She wants the complete information overview of the project where it is parts off. She want the details (not the encrypted info they found) like the name of the donors and if possible also the ID of the people involved. Everything to get solid evidence of what they were doing here (il)legaly.

T'Sal first sorted the files by date and time, but this didn't make the list any better. It was a list of literally thousands of files that were modified in the last hour alone. Some of them haven't even been touched in years, and suddenly they are updated by incoming data from one of the labs. It was impressive really, even with the intermittent power outages the system continued to take measurements and store large amounts of data. The problem was that it wasn't clear at all what the files really were about, as their names didn't have any meaning; they were just random strings.

However, by following the instructions professor Dewa gave them, T'Sal could find the master project index and decrypt it. From there, she could find the 'Enhanced Yield Rice' project very easily. After connecting S4 to the server rack with a data transfer cable, she initiated the transfer of the project's data to S4.

By now S4 was busy transferring, Nebesnogo was looking around in the data centre itself, and Trigiel was diagnosing the soldier. T'Sal could easily snoop around in the data by using the master index decryption token to look inside other project files.

With some searching through the project files, she identified the project that mentioned Subject 2-7-beta, and found the project summary and the project index file. The project contained a very nice summary file, which seems to be the abstract of a larger report.

Jōten Project Proposal - Abstract
We suspect that hemetism was either introduced as an inclusion of extra-planetary genetic material, or as an evolutionary leap. Yet have not confirmed either theory. Numerous research efforts have tried to explain the hemet condition, yet none succeeded.

The Jōten project approaches the problem from a different angle. Instead of working from the origin, the project starts with the result: a hemet. The aim of the project is to isolate the genetic construct responsible for the hemet condition through selective inclusion of genetic material from hemet donors in other species. By adjusting the distribution of donor genes and source genes, we can closely monitor the development of the offspring.

The project is set up in phases called cycles, each cycle will refine the genetic integration, and allows both the continuation of a genetic line and the introduction of new genetic material. Depending on the level of available funding, the project will support up to twelve genetic lines, with both reproduction and influx of new genetic material each cycle.

We expect the project to conclude within 150 years, and hope to be able to present a concise mapping of genes associated with the hemet condition.

T'Sal could find many more files, including a financial history of the project, dating back roughly 65 years. It seems the project was started at this facility when it was still under Dewa control, but was shut down 60 years into the project. The reason listed for shutting down was 'lack of funding'. The project was reinstated immediately after House Iaat took over the facility -- and has a much higher resource allocation from that point on, with multiple external money streams completely bypassing the normal facility, and directly being used by the project.

A second document was found, containing a list of donors of genetic material. Each donor was given a unique ID, and carefully marked down, and consent forms were meticulously kept for each donor. It seemed the project did not keep a record of everyone involved, so the only way to determine that would be to analyse the video footage of the project.

Unfortunately, based on the project index file, T'Sal estimated that the amount of data associated with the Jōten project was too much to copy, even if T'Sal would use all available capacity of S4 and her datapad. Just as she reached that conclusion, the lighting turned deep red!

"Jedi!", Proffessor Dewa's voice came over the communication link, "A security warning just popped up: the video shows that creature, and it is destroying the auxiliary power generator. Now wait, that creature is way too sneaky! It just rerouted most auxiliary power to laboratories C20 and C21 in cluster C, and shut down the rest of the emergency generators."

Even before Trigiel could relay this to T'Sal, she saw a warning appear on the screen:

<system> Power fluctuation detected...
<system> (Prediction: Imminent power failure)
<security> Assuming hostile attack... Initiating data protection protocol
<security> Initiating generator overload... OK
<security> Deletion of data in progress: 1.4%
<security> Deletion of data in progress: 2.1%
<security> Deletion of data in progress: 4.2%
<security> Deletion of data in progress: 6.7%

Just after the warning, one by one the servers in the data centre began overheating themselves and melting down. It would only be a matter of minutes before the server rack she was working on would overheat and melt the metal casings. Nebesnogo was the first one to notice that the servers were overheating one by one, neatly in sequence.

While the floor of the data centre was being pooled over by molten metal of already-destroyed server racks, smoke was filling the room, Trigiel determined that this would most definitely not be healthy for his patient. With the project summary, the project proposal and the donor list already secured, there was little time left, and the Jedi would have to make a choice:

Copy the security footage: They have enough space to copy the video footage associated with the Jōten project. Based on the meta-data of the video files it seems that this would allow them to identify most of the people that worked on the project, and probably allow insight into the practical matters of the project.

Copy the research data: They could copy the research data itself and save millions of credits spent on tens of years of research into hemetism. T'Sal guessed that the amount of data they could copy about the project would be enough to start over at a new facility.

((OOC: Removed posts below in accordance with player wishes. I usually assume that the Jedi involved will inform each other of such decisions before single-handedly deciding what to do -- which is why I have written the choice in plural. It is however true that only T'Sal is aware of the choice at the end of this post; what she chooses to do with the information is up to her.))

T’sal is busy with her search for the Subject 2-7-beta project. She finds the Jōten Project Proposal and starts reading the information and then shares it with the others.

“I found the research project from Subject 2-7-beta. It is called the Jōten Project Proposal and it is about the research for finding the origin of hemetism. House Dewa started it, but they stopped it. After House Laat took over they started it again with enormous funds.”

T’sal directly downloads the data she gets on her datapad. She continued looking further into the project data until the warning comes, followed by the servers melting.

“Power failure again? Oh No this security is too good, the data is getting destroyed. Could you guys stop the servers from overheating?”

T’sal focuses on the screen again and starts to download some video footage from the beginning, before and after the transfer to House Laat and some recent ones. T'sal also download the data of Subject 2-7-beta. Now that a maximum data transfer has started T'sal has time to take a better look at the project research data. She tries to quickly scan the project research data and determine what the most important ones are.

((Check: 10 = 5 Force Level + 5 Reason -- Make a selection of the research data of what is important and what not.))

“Guys, I now got some video footage of the people involved. I can download all the footage as evidence or a selection of the research data as there is way too much. With some luck we can find the people and ask them questions and get some more info. What do you think?”

T'Sal quickly sees that the project data is partitioned into three categories: video feeds, important research data, and auxiliary research data.

Although T'Sal is proficient with computers, she quickly concludes that it would cost too much time to determine what parts of the research data are important. None of the files are named anything useful. It would take days to go through the data, assuming that T'Sal even had the background knowledge on highly advanced genetics to make sense of the work. She has to initiate a full data transfer to grab as much of the important research data as possible.

T'Sal grabbed a few video files from the correct time ranges, in total probably a 21 hours worth of video feeds from security cameras, but if she wants to store any significant amount of video she would have to initiate a full transfer, and hope that the transfers finishes before the server melts down.

At the same time, Trigiel and Nebesnogo notice that the servers aren't melting down in sequence, it just seemed that way from where they were looking at the room. They could already see some of the servers at the other end of the room starting to glow. It seemed that there is a sequence: the servers at the outside are first, and they are overheating from the outside inwards!

The only way to safe any significant amount of data would be to initiation a full data transfer on one of the data categories, and hope that the transfer finishes before the server becomes unstable due to overheating. Of course, the server could also fail due to cooling issues. In fact, Trigiel's infra-red sight helped him spot that roughly half of the servers were already heating up significantly. T'Sal guessed that, with the current temperature rise, she had about half a minute of time left before this cluster destabilized and crashed.

((OOC: PS. I am not ignoring the other two players: this post is just more info, not a signficant passing of time.))

"Power failures causing melting servers? This place is nuts! T'sal, video footage. Definitely video footage. The research is backed up, or so I hope for them."

Seeing the rate in what the serves were melting, Trigiel concluded that they had one viable option: Run or die in a pool of molten metal. He said both in voice and over the radio: "Doc, execute immediate emergency server shut down, All Of Them!, the servers are literally melting! From the outside inwards!

Also open the doors, we need to get out NOW!

With that Trigiel started to run back to the closest door he knew of, the door to the security centre. If he estimated he had the time for it, he moved the stretcher with the soldier with the force back. If there was no time because the servers were melting to fast, he grabbed her over his right shoulder and ran.

While he ran he grabbed his grappling hook out of his left leg pocket. When he reached the moat of molten metal he jumped over it and shot his grappling hook towards the ceiling at the end. And without waiting he pulled himself towards the exit door out of the growing area of melting metal heat and smoke.

After hearing Trigiel response T’sal downloads all the video footage to her datapad.

“S4 if you finish with the rice project continue with the important research data if necessary just free your extra database to create more space.

Thanks Nebesnogo, I will come as soon as I have finished downloading. I can fly with S4 to the exits if necessary.”

T’sal also frees some more space on her datapad, luckily she backups everything before going on the mission. Then T’sal gets a idea, she can also use the computer consoles as storage room, they have also memory space. She hacks into the system and tries to put up a data transfer connection to the consoles at the security centre (or somewhere else). T’sal pushes all the computers capacity to the maximum uses all (temperatory) memory space to its limits. She monitors the data traffic and starts downloading new material as soon as other things are finished of the other files are deleted.

"Okay. I hope this works." the panicked reply from the professor came through the comms. As Trigiel runs toward the door, he could see it starting to open. However, it stopped after half a meter. "Ehm. The power just went out over here, and I can't do anything anymore." came the voice from the professor once again. It seemed that he couldn't do much more.

Trigiel used his grappling hook to swing over the moat of molten metal between him and the door, and slid underneath the door while at the same time ensuring that the body of the soldier wasn't banged around to much. On the other side of the door, the security centre was cloaked in darkness, with only a few self-powered emergency lights providing some illumination.

Nebesnogo, taking advantage of his natural flight, quickly moved to where T'Sal was working with the servers. He concentrated on clearing a path, and forced the molten metal aside, offering a thin pathway to the door. He already feels the molten metal close in on their position, and he won't be able to keep this up for more than a few seconds.

Meanwhile, T'Sal did her utmost best to copy as much of the video files as possible to her datapad, but after filling it up, she had to continue copying the other half of the videos to S4. Just as Nebesnogo arrived, the server rack she was working on started to radiate heat and become red-hot, burning away the data connector cable between the rack and S4, prohibiting any further data transfer.

With Nebesnogo barely holding back the molten metal, this was their last chance to get out. If they stayed any longer, they would be surrounded by molten metal, red-hot server racks and loose electricity cables!

After her datapad is full, she puts is savely away in her bag. When the cables come down T’sal quickly uses her lightsaber to cut them so S4 would not get hit.

“Okay, let’s get out of here together S4 and Nebesnogo. I migth need a wing or thruster for the last part, I can jump most of it. Fly ahead, I will take a running start and meet you in the air.”

With that T’sal takes a good look at the distance she has to cover and determine the best trajectory to get across. She could also use her telekinetic power to get even more momentum. After making some quick physical calculations she guides S4 and Nesbesnogo for the last hand if needed. She moves her bag to her back and ties it. She checks her path one more time to see if its clear. T’sal focuses her power and takes a deep breath. She pushes off against the wall and gets a fast running starts. T’sal has counted her steps and just a few centimeters before the molten metal pool she jumps. She puts her arms quite tight around her body and she looks like a spear piercing through the hot air as to limit the amount of friction. T’sal make sure her way is free and is necessary use her telekinetic power to make sure her trajectory is free.

At the other side of the door Trigiel was wondering why it took so long for the others to come. He didn't feel anything in the force yet so they probably weren't mortally wounded yet. Then he thought of that T'sal was of course a scientist and those type of people could be completely oblivious to their surrounding. In a second the cyborg padawan though of his options: help the soldier, go under the door back to help the others, cut a bigger hole in the door, push a clearer path granting them more space to land and roll underneath the door.

He chose to help his fellow padawan and used his telekinesis to push away the molten metal away from the door as far as he could to create a bigger landing site for T'sal and Nebesnogo. He was not good in it but it was the best thing he could do now. As by going back he would block the door for them, and by cutting a bigger hole in the door they could jump/fly in his saber.

With the air of the room slowly filling with dangerous vapours and not time to spare Nebesnogo decides that leaving in one piece is the better option. He quickly moves over the narrow path, and just barely makes it to the other side as the molten metal closes behind him.

Trigiel, meanwhile, tries to push away some of the metal that is slowly flowing into the security centre. With has back against the half-opened door, Nebesnogo does a last effort to hold back the metal, and with the help of Trigiel's efforts he partly succeeds in keeping a small area free of molten metal.

While Nebesnogo makes his escape, T'Sal decides to remain and download video footage onto her datapad until it is completely filled. Unfortunately for her, Nebesnogo did not succeed in holding open a pathway. She uses what little space she has to get a running start, and jumps... Nebesnogo was already on the other side, and couldn't help her in mid-air, but S4 does a heroic effort to pull her along. Unfortunately, even with S4's help she comes up short, and her left foot lands squarely in the molten metal!

With a shout of pain, she blacks out and collapses. Luckily for her, her momentum and S4 carry the rest of her body onto the clearing held open by Nebesnogo's efforts, but in doing so she drags her lower left leg through the molten metal. With a loud 'thud' her unconscious body lands next to Nebesnogo, with her face a deathly gray, her trousers and lab coat caught on fire and her left leg literally burned to a cinder from the knee down!

((OOC: @Nebesnogo: correct. The door opens upwards.

@T'Sal: Calculation on the trajectory are not applicable. You don't have time to take measurements of angles or the calculate cosines. Your jump check uses the correct attribute (Fitness) and correctly applies the Force Jump power. However, Telekinesis can not be used to gain extra momentum, you can only use telekinesis on unattended objects. After removal of the Telekinesis bonus the result of your jump check is 9.

Unfortunately, this is not enough. The check FAILED. You could've made it, if you had just a little more Fitness, or had the Acrobatics skill which is certainly applicable here; physical things is just not something T'Sal is very good at.

When the unconscious T'sal was dragged under the door, the first thing Trigiel wanted to do was to give her a kick that she shouldn't be so stupid. When he saw how wounded she was, he refrained himself from doing that and was quite concerned about her. While S4 dragged the body away from the door Trigiel said: "Nebesnogo, see what you can do to close the door. We don't want molten metal here, Karinth, please check upon the soldier and see that she is OK, I will do what I can to stabilise T'sal." Then he mumbled something like: "Sorry dead soldier, I give priority to the living." Trigiel first made sure that T'sal laid more or less comfortable, but he didn't used all their limited resources as they had to get two wounded bodies out of here soon.

Now that everybody had something to be busy with, it was time for some questions: "Doc, what were those melting servers and did you knew anything about it? And Nebesnogo, what happened? T'sal should had enough time left to get to safety."

"I will." nebesnogo said as he moved over to the door taking care to not be hurt by the molten metal that may be flowing under the door opening.

"I'm not sure but I could not keep all the molten metal away. And I think T'sal missed one of the new metal flows and she stepped right in the middle of it. I tried my best to keep all the metal a way but as you know liquids are hard to manipulate so I think I missed some. For the rest I did not see so I'm not sure." He said while inspecting the door in the hope of finding out how to close it. "I might have to blow this door in half to get it down if we are unlucky."

Nebesnogo had a good look at the door, and reasoned that it must open upwards for a good reason. And indeed, he found an access hatch that allowed him to use a manual emergency lever. The lever only allowed closing of the door, but that was exactly what he wanted. As he pulled the lever, both Jedi could hear the door hiss, and start coming down just slow enough to not splash up any metal.

S4 fussed over T'Sal and started dousing T'Sal's lab coat and trousers while Trigiel carefully inspected her leg. He wasn't an expert at triage, but he could easily determine that her leg was ruined from about ten centimetres below the knee. It seemed T'Sal herself was unconscious, and would probably remain out for a while. Trigiel determined that the wound is very severe, and should be treated as soon as possible.

The professor meanwhile, seemed very disturbed by the current events. He quickly followed Trigiel's orders, and looked after the soldier. "No. I didn't know. If I had known, I would have told you!", he shouted in an agitated voice. "Listen, let's just get out of here. The only labs that have power are in the core of Cluster C, labs C20 and C21. But that doesn't matter, once we are out of here, we let the army bombard the whole facility from orbit!"

((OOC: @Trigiel: Medicine is not applicable here, as you are trying to render First Aid. However, especially because of situations such as these, first aid can be used untrained.))

((OOC: ok, noted))

"Well in hindsight, it was a good thing you staid here, doc.

As the facility has no power any more, and I believe we have the rice data, we get you and the two wounded out of here. Nebesnogo and I will then inspect the lab of Cluster C, C20 and C21. Our mission was to investigate, so that is what we will do."

Now that T'sal was unconscious, they needed some decent emergency equipment Trigiel took the map out of T'sal her backpack and looked for the nearest first aide location which looked big enough to contain at least one but preferably two stretchers. "wasn't there an emergency water shower in Aux.Lab. 14? T'sal's legs needs to cool."

If the emergency lab was close by enough, Trigiel proposed to get some equipment from there.
If nobody objected, he went there to fetch some equipment.

In case the doors didn't cooperate, his two lightsabers took care of that.

The map is on T'sal datapad and Trigiel grabs it out of her shoulderbag. But when he tries to access it he is blocked by the security. He would need the password. He tries some things but is does not work. Then S4 comes up and motions to hand it over. When he receives it, he quickly types some things and he has access. He then give the datapad back to Trigiel. S4 goes back to T'sal and paces up and down beside her while monitoring her situation.

While S4 paced up and down next to T'Sal's unconscious body, Trigiel made his way through the facility (with some help from the map). Luckily for T'Sal, the architects of this facility took into account the fact that accidents happen and had included strategically placed first-aid stations throughout the facility. Though Trigiel found that the supplies there did not take into account extreme cases such as feet-in-molten-metal. He did find two good folding stretchers, and a bag of emergency medical supplies.

Nebesnogo, a little stunned by the current events, stayed in the security centre until Trigiel returned with the gear. As soon as Trigiel returned, professor Dewa quickly jumped to action to help the cyborg jedi out with the stretchers.

"Good. Now let's get out of here", the professor said once the two wounded were on stretchers. "Me and the droid will carry the Jedi. That way, if something ambushes us, we can carry her to safety while you drop the soldier and fight it of." he said with a serious tone.

"Lets go via the auxiliary lab 14 to use the emergency shower, the leg needs to be cooled." If Nebesnogo was ready as well, Trigiel grabbed the soldier's stretcher so they could go together to the exit.

If Trigiel knew that water would not help, or even make the wound worse than he proposed to go to directly go to the exit.

((OOC: I'm not sure if a shower of water would do the leg good, but Trigiel does with his medicine and personal experience of being burned.))

Coming out of his daze nebesnogo apologised "I'm sorry the adrenaline got to me."

"I think that is a good route to go." the little mudry said before joining in on the plan of professor dewa en trigiel.
