Most esteemed Jedi,

I would ask your assistance in coping with an unfortunate accident. As you are aware, the Riki-Mirkaru genetics research facility is currently offline following a severe thunderstorm. Our operatives have reached the facility, but have not yet returned, or communicated with us with regards to the situation.

We now theorize that the facility was the target of foul play, and that this was no freak accident. I ask your help in this matter, as the situation must be contained as soon as possible.

Yours truly,
Duke Iaat Vyapar

The Jedi Council received this message from Duke Iaat Vyapar on behalf of the Veolian Commonwealth. We are looking for Jedi who are willing to investigate the facility to see what has transpired and to deal with any problems in an appropriate manner. The duke was unwilling to discuss any further details over the Holonet, and urged us to send a group of Jedi to Mirda.

((OOC: This mission will require insight and thought, and will have serious (possibly unclear) consequences for the Veolian Commonwealth. Expect news posts featuring your Jedi to appear.

Those who participate can earn one Physical Attribute point (Strength, Fitness or Vision) and possibly a bonus skill point depending on how the mission is handled.

Optimal party size: 3, posting frequency: 2/week))

The word research facility is enough for T’sal to sign up. She has read about the accident in the news and has since then been curious about it. She did not like it that research is being interfered by some group. T’sal has been to Mirda and knows the Veolion language which might be quite useful.

After some thought, Trigiel signed up for the mission. He remembered something about Veolians not liking droids and cyborgs very much, but so far he hadn't had troubles with Shebi Ajava. His guess was he remembered wrong. He also remembered something about the Veolians being barbaric, with slaves and a lot of infighting. 'Well,' he thought to himself, 'we will see about that, maybe they are just a little uncivilized.'

"Very well. With three applicants I have confidence that, whatever the problem is, you are able to handle it.", Jedi master Qun Treen looked the three over.

"I will arrange for transportation to Mirda, where I've been told you will be picked up by local transportation. Remember to think things through before acting, your actions can have large consequences. And remember that the Jedi are not mercenaries. We are not here to be called in as a strike force."

((OOC: I need a list of any equipment you bring on this mission. Once everyone has poster, if nobody mentions needing to do stuff before leaving, I will presume everyone gets onto the carrier and my next post will be your arrival at Mirda.))

While packing, Trigiel stood a while in front of his E-11 sniper rifle, doubting whether or not he should bring it along. As Master Qun Treen said, they were not a task force, but at the other hand, it wouldn't be the first time when he would need it but not brought the sniper along. Then he decided to just bring it, and just leave it in the ship when not necessary. Maybe it was a good idea to pack it to prevent provoking or bringing people or giving a wrong impression. So he dismantled the rifle and packed it in a suitcase, ready for transport.

((OOC: Build in

T’sal remembers reading something about this matter in the news and starts look in the Union news. She finds three articles about the events. This facility seems to have been bought by House Laat for the Dryatech consortium. The The Riki-Mirkaru facility, previously belonged to House Dewa, performed genetic experimentation, it is rumored that the main focus was chimeras.

To get some more background on genetic experiments T’sal goes to the Biology department and asks for some information.

If the Riki-Markaru facility was attack by some kind of group they would be highly skilled. It was best to get some special equipment by quartermaster Nishra. T’sal goes toward her to see if there is some special communication equipment; maybe some headsets which use a special frequency so the changes of being cut would be low. Otherwise she gets some stuff and tries to fix it on their way.

She then goes back to her room to get her own stuff. As it is a research facility S4 will be joining.

((OOC: Taking with her
S4, with all his stuff, scientific + spy equipment.
Ligthsaber
Datapad (including translation matrix)+ scanner
3 special Headset communicators
Engineering/science tools
Labcoat))

Nebesnogo sent a letter to his parents before he checked his stuff one more time to be sure he had all he needed.

He checked the carrying case for his pistol witch was neatly disassembled for transport. "Never be to careful when strange stuff happens." he mutters after seeing his weapon in good state.

He pondered the wisdom of taking explosives with him but decided against it. "If mister Iaat needs us to bring it down he will probably give us explosives. And master Qun Treen would probably not approve." he said to himself as he put away the requisition form.

He then goes over to his suitcase and checks to see if he has enough clothing and the likes to satisfy even his mother. "And now hard part... Closink It!!" he grunts out as he forces the suitcase closed.

((OOC: Gear:
    Light saber(shortblade regualar hilt).

Clothing appropriate to the weather of the location.

After grabbing their gear, and visiting quartermaster Nishra for specialized things such as headsets, the Jedi board a simple cargo hauler. The hauler brings them to Mirda with surprising speed, and lands on a small airstrip in the jungle.

Image

The airstrip, it seems is the temporary base for a military operation. Multiple fighters and patrol craft are parked under the canopy, and soldiers and ground crew seem to busy themselves with repairs and refueling.

A thin man quickly walks towards the cargo hauler.

"Greetings, honoured Jedi." he started with a short bow.

"My name is Iaat Vyapar, and I am the one that asked the Jedi Council to assist."

He motioned for the Jedi to follow him, and walked toward a large tent. Inside, the tent was set up a command post, with a large holoprojector in the middle, and boards and communications gear along the walls. Some of the boards contained drawings of strange creatures, and notes tacked on each such drawing with a few quick scribbles.

"I have asked you to come here, because we have cause to believe the recent incident at the Riki-Mirkaru facility was not by chance. We believe the facility has come under attack." He motioned to the holoproject, which projected a map of the facility and its surroundings.

The thin man motioned toward one of the veolian woman wearing a commando-outfit. "This is commander Iaat Kinsara, she is in command of this operation, and will answer any questions related to the military side of this operation."

Command Iaat Kinsara, an older woman wearing in efficient military armour walked over to the Jedi. When she moves closer, the Jedi see that she has a scar starting on her left cheek and going down her face and throat underneath her armour.

She nods to the Jedi, motions to the map.

"Welcome Jedi. The last two patrols we have sent to the facility did not report back, and the current storms make it difficult to communicate over long distances. We assume hostile activity, and are currently in the progress of capturing the escaped creatures.

I have a transport waiting to take you to the facility, but first I would like to introduce Dewa Karinth, the lead scientist at the facility. He will be going with you, as he knows the facility well and has convinced the boss", she nodded her head toward Iaat Vyapar, "that he should be going to secure some documents." She motioned over a veolian wearing a lab coat.

The man bows deeply, and introduces himself properly. "Welcome honoured Jedi, I am Dewa Karinth. Thank you for assisting us in this difficult time." He seems tired.

The commander continues: "The objective is determining the status of the other two patrols, and stopping any hostile activity. Do you have any questions before deployment? If not, you move out in 10." The tone of her voice makes it clear that she does not usually expect questions, and that this is mostly a courtesy.

"I have a few questions." Nebesnogo stated after the explanations.

"Do you have any ideas on who could have done this? Two with how many were the patrols and what kind of weapons were they using? And lastly how much collateral damage is acceptable on the facility?"

The commander looked at the daryan for a moment.

"If I knew or suspected who did this, I would've told you. Unlike high nobility, I adhere to the practice of actually informing my men about the facts before they deploy.", she replied with an angry look toward Iaat Vyapar's back.

"I dispatched two patrols, each patrol consists of four speeders. Standard equipment for both. That is: augmented combat armour, blasters. A squad consists of one sniper, two commando's and a techie. Each speeder's equipped with comm array and enough power to go to and fro four times."

A sharp lightning strike hit the power grid, momentarily blanking out the equipment.

The commander seemed unfazed by this and continued: "I'd suggest not blowing up the facility. But then again, you are Jedi. If you deem it necessary to blow the whole place sky-high, do it. Duke Iaat is footing the bill, so if you need any gear before you deploy, tell me and I'll fly it in within the hour."

On their way T’sal has given the others the specially prepared headsets so they could always communicate. She introduces S4 to Nebesnogo as he had not met her droid.

When going to the location T’sal looks curious outside to the thunderstorm. As a physicist she is quite interesting in this phenomenon.

T’sal listens carefully to what laat Vyapar and commander laat Kinsara have to tell. After Nebesnogo makes his remarks and the commander answer T’sal says while looking as that there might be more to it to Nebesnogo.

“We have to wait to see what is there.”

T’sal looks to the map of the location and studies it. She takes her datapad and makes a copy. She then asks Dewa Karinth:

“Mister Dewa, could you enlighten us on the lay-out of the facility and tells us were you need to go to secure the documents?”

Dewa Karinth (mask of Brend)

T'Sal's idea of grabbing a few customized headsets paid off, as they seemed to work perfectly, while their normal communications gear was plagued by random noise and crackled up every so often.

While the map was shown, T'Sal quickly grabs a copy for later use. This would ensure that the three jedi wouldn't get lost in the facility, and could quickly plot a route to where they wanted to be. The map showed a large facility built into a mountain. The facility sported two landing pads jutting out from the cliff face at a height of around 70 meters, a perimeter defence grid complete with backup power generator inside the perimeter. The complex is roughly three kilometers across, and it seemed that most of the research labs were built deeper in the mountain.

"Well," Dewa Karinth started, "the documents are stored on the central server, which is next to the security checkpoint here.", he points out a room on the north side of the facility, deep under ground. "Of course, we could also access the files from any other operational terminal, but lockdown protocols require that at least two terminals are used at the same time, unless you have direct access to the server. The terminals use a biometric locking system, so only I and a few others can unlock the data. Unfortunately, my colleagues have disappeared during the emergency evacuation.

We could try one of the landing pads, but they are not reachable from the ground unless we climb up, and make our way through the facility by foot. Or we could try one of the emergency exits, but those lock down after an hour, and automated defences kick in after two hours, so they will be activated. We could also try the main cargo entrace, it is well-defended, but offers the most direct route once inside."

Trigiel took the customized headset, and was looking at it like he had no idea what to do with it. When he opened his build-in comm system he did hear a lot of background noice, indicating that communicating whit that device would be hard with all the noice. He did put the headset on is head, shuffled his head flaps till the communicator was well in place.

"I suggest we take a shuttle tot the landing pad. Else the emergency exists sounds like a better plan than the main cargo entrance. Our lightsabers will cut open the doors."

Hearing what the mission was, Trigiel was glad he took his E-11 sniper rifle with him.

"I suppose the automated defences are blaster canons, and can be neutralised with some sniper shots?"
Post Commander Iaat Kinsara (mask of Brend) » Thu Oct 11, 2012 11:58 am

Commander Iaat Kinsara (mask of Brend)

Commander Iaat Kinsara looked at the cyborg incredulously.

"If the defences can easily be taken out by some sniper shots, wouldn't you think they would've installed actual defences? Regardless, the defences are mainly intended to keep things from going out, instead of keeping things from going in. And unknown the the professor", she looked to the professor, "we actually have the command codes to disable the outer perimeter."

She handed a small datacube to the cyborg. "This contains command codes to disable the outer grid. I didn't want to hand them over earlier, as I really do not want to disable the grid unless necessary -- there's enough chimera's running around in the jungle as it is. If you approach by land, plug it in any of the defence turrets' control panels, and the grid will shut down."

"We will do the best we can to enter the building without disabling the grid." He looked at the party: "I am ready, so lets go. The rest we can discuss on route." Then he looked back at commander Iaat Kinsara: "Please bring us to a shuttle so we can depart."

"Shuttle? I have a troop transport standing by, but it won't be comfortable."

From the tone of her voice, it seemed the commander ordered two of the soldiers in here to bring the jedi to the transport.

The transport was as promised, a combat-ready drop-ship. The ship had a large door on the side, and the interior featured nine seats along the sides. Each seat had a sturdy harness to strap a person into the seat. The two soldiers helped the jedi strap in, and pointed to the red release mechanism.

The first soldier strapped the professor and himself in. The other soldier slammed the door shut, strapped himself in opposite to Fecta Trigiel, and kept a sharp eye on this cyborg. The pilot, a veolian male, looked back into the hold, and gave the jedi a thumbs-up before the ship jerked into the air.

"Dropship, shuttle, if it flies it is OK." This made Trigiel realise one thing. In a dropship he didn't had time to assemble his sniper rifle.

When they were shown the ship, the cyborg said: "15 seconds, please, and immediately he dropped his suitcase with his sniper rifle. In 15 seconds he had assembled his sniper and was ready to go."

While they were under way, Trigiel asked: "Anything we should know about these 'Chimera's?' I have never heard of them before."

Professor Dewa Karinth looked at the cyborg, and tapped his headset to reply. "Chimera's are an amalgamation of different genetic bases. By combining, and compatibilizing, genetic material from two or more species, we hope to gain insight into hemetism. We have had little succes so far, but we did create a few medically relevant species of rice." He smiled at the end of his sentence.

"We have two important research projects going right now. The enhanced rice batches, those are completely harmless. And we have a project aimed at insects and the effects of introducing mammalian material on the social structure and growth factor. Those are dangerous. You don't want to go up against a red velvet ant wasp the size of a Rancor."

The professor explained the process of creating chimera's, and the dangers of having such creatures in the wild. He went on for some time, and it seemed that he really liked his job. The jedi could hear a hint of annoyance toward house Iaat, as the professor went through events of the last few months.

The strong winds made the flight anything but smooth, and after a turbulent flight of roughly twenty minutes, the dropship stabilized. Both soldiers hit their respective releases, one going for the door, and the other releasing the jedi and the professor.

As soon as the door was openened, the whole ship was filled with roaring noise and rain blown into the drop-ship. Through the open door, the jedi could see that the drop-ship hovered about five meter above the landing platform, the heavy rain and the darkened sky obscuring most of the facility. Fecta Trigiel spotted that this platform's door has been blasted open with explosives, leaving large hole to enter the facility.

Surprising the three Jedi, the professor jumped out of the ship without further ado, his white coat flapping furiously in the wind. Even more surprising, he neatly landed in a kneeling position. He looked up and shouted: "Hey Jedi. Move it!"

The jedi heard the voice of the pilot over their communication system. "Listen up. The wind's too brutal for me to stick around long. Unfortunately our comms only work short-range due to the storm. So grab a few signal flares and flare me in when you need me."

"Good luck. Care four wierd beests!", the soldier at the door shouted in broken galactic basic while he pressed three signalling flares in Trigiel's hand.

Before he jumped, Trigiel pointed with one finger to his eye, then to the soldier who was keeping an eye on him, the general gesture of 'I'll be watching you.' Then his aperture closed and opened together with a subtle move of one of his head flaps. It was a typical wink of a teprogrenaian cyborg, though it was unlikely the soldier knew this.

He stored one signalling flares in his chest pocket, and as soon T'sal and Nebesnogo Sveta he gave one to each of them.

During the flight over Nebesnogo double checked his equipment making sure nothing was misaligned and everything was in position. When the chair released him he strapped on his helmet and moved over to the rear hatch placed the power cell in his pistol and cleared it whilst aiming outside. Before he put it away he saw the professor jump out of the gunship.

When he saw the man land on the landing pad he realized that the things shebi ajava told him about hemet veolians was indeed true. He turned to the soldier and said. "Da, comerade will be carefull." He accepted the flare from Trigiel and put it in a pocket of his pants where he could easily reach it. "I will see you and T'sal down there." he said before flying down to the professor.

"Hmm weather reminds me of home." he mumbled as he flew down in the rainy weather. "Professor I would prefer if you do not go jumpink ahead like that without tellink us." Nebesnogo said as he hovered a chest height to the veolian.

T’sal makes notes of what mister Dewa has to tell. It looks like that they really have to go to the server unless they find somebody on the way. There are various routes and T’sal thinks about the landing platform.

“Going up and down should be no problem for us, Trigiel and I can jump and Nesbesnogo can fly. We could also help others. But I will leave the decision of approach to commander laat.”

When going to the ships T’sal prepares for the trip. She goes to a toilet and changes; she puts on her labcoat and some make-up as to look older. She hides her ligthsaber inside her coat, ready to grab when needed. Going in as jedi and now returning to the others as scientist she walks to the others. On the way she makes arrangements with S4.

“S4 when we arrive you can best us your sensors to detect other life forms, so know when “something” is approaching. Furthermore make some space free in your system for a possible quick hack and download into the system on the research station. Stay near but keep out of danger.”

She looks towards her droid, this would be a nice tag-team opportunity for them. S4 replies understanding.

“Understood miss. I will make records of the encounter as to analyze our opponent and stay out of the firing zone.”

When regrouping at the dropship T’sal walks towards professor Dewa.

“Professor Dewa, S4 and I will be assisting and protecting you. I might a physicist but I have studied genetics on the way, so I should be able to distinguish head from tails.”

T’sal hopes that her labocoat will not be too different from the Veolian ones. During their trip towards the facility T’sal listens carefully to the explanation of the professor and takes some notes on her datapad. Upon arriving she puts the datapad in her shoulder bag and closes it off as to not get her stuff wet. The professor seems to know what he does as he quickly jumps out. T’sal and S4 also jump down.

When the three padawan landed on the platform, they could hear the of the drop-ship's engines roar as it accelareted away, quickly vanishing in the heavy rain. A lightning strike into a nearby communications tower illuminated the sky, allowing the jedi a last view of the craft as it gained altitude.

The rain was not particularly cold, but experience told Nebesnogo that being soaked through and through was not comfortable.

From the landing platform, all jedi could clearly see that the door into the facility was blown out by explosives. Inside, they saw a large hallway leading deeper into the cliff face, the artificial light inside dimming and brightening at random. From here, blaster marks on the wall of the hallway could be seen as well as a large splatter of blood and claw marking on the wall, just inside the door.

The professor looked at the three Jedi, and tapped his comms: "What's the plan, Jedi?"

“For the data we need to go to the server room, but the security point next to it will be a risk. So I suggest taking a little detour and look around a bit to find out what happened here and maybe we can find some of your colleagues. Then we can access the data from another entre point.”

After the padawans have made a plan, T’sal walks to the door and takes a good look around to see whether the door was blasted away from the outside or inside.
