Having listened to the theories and proposals by everyone, Shebi Ajava took the lead.

"Ok, listen up.", she started, clearly slipping into commander mode.

"As we do not know how many operatives they have, no-one is allowed to go alone in or around their ship.

Nathan, Nalan. You're both capable slicers, and know how to remain unseen. You two will try and obtain access to the ships data. If at all possible from the outside. Grab a copy of the data and get back here. Try to not get caught this time.

Ariana. You know the most about genetics. Stay here, and see if the detective knows of another tomb, or maybe they know a historian that might know more; call in the historian or other people you need. If you find anything do not rush of alone. Instead, contact us.

Trigiel. You know how to take genetic samples. You and I will go back to the ship, and explain to the would-be king that we need some extra samples 'to have baseline comparison material as the local samples might have different background radiation than samples from the ship'. That will give us an excuse to take samples from the crew and the women he took with him.

From now on, we are in a hurry, as their operatives will not be sitting still. Move out!"

"aye, Ma'am."

Nathan turned to Nalan.

"Lets move."

Moving fast and quiet he tried to find a way into the ship without anyone knowing.

When they near the ship she keeps an extra keen eye to not get caught again and remain hidden from the others.

"Operatives? Did I miss a memo?" Trigiel asked. Shebi Ajava said there was probably one operative, but now there is suddenly a whole can of operatives. Trigiel wanted to complain that they were listening to Ajava, but ignoring him, but he let it pass.

The cyborg padawan went back to the ship together with Shebi Ajava, with the necessary equipment. Once they were let in, could speak to the would-be king and nobody stopped Trigiel, the cyborg padawan said: "We are terribly sorry to interrupt your rest on the ship again, but there appeared to be a small problem."

Trigiel paused a short moment, allowing people to interrupt if they deemed necessary to do so. If nobody did so he continued: "The local samples have a different background radiation than your samples, due to differences in space travel. We need to establish a baseline from your people to filter these differences."

Seeing that Trigiel took the lead, Ajava remained silent. Splitting her consciousness so she wouldn't miss the conversation, she devoted most of her cognitive abilities to try to sense everyone present through the force. She wanted to find this woman that Nalan spoke about.

Ariana dropped in at room 4B and immediately started asking questions to the detective.

"Detective could you use your contacts to find out if there are any other burial tombs for members of the royal family. Maybe a member of the royal family who was buried elsewhere due to personal reasons? If there are any royal members who might not have been compromised yet I would like to know as soon as possible. Please hurry we do not have all day."

Nathan and Nalan

Nathan and Nalan moved off to sneak into the ship, making their way to an access hatch and opening it to sneak into the cargo hold. Luckily their skills allowed them to find their way in without a hitch, despite almost dropping a screwdriver necessary to open the hatch.

The cargo hold contained many crates, mostly various wines and luxury goods, and from here they could reach different parts of the ship: the engine room, the server room, the quarters, the 'throne room' and of course the bridge.

Trigiel and Ajava

Trigiel and Ajava meanwhile went inside to speak with the would be king, who was not pleased with the visit.

"Speak basic man, what do you want? More samples? Does that mean we have to wait for your medic again?" he sighed "Be quick about it, I have a dinner date with a very pleasant young lady later this evening and I need time to prepare. A king needs to look impressive to his people after all.

Ariana

"What are you asking me for when you have a perfectly fine archaeologist at your disposal." the detective complained.

Ariana soon found her way to the man who had given them the tour of the tombs.

"Well, not actually a member... there is someone though... Viscount Orlin. He was disgraced after fleeing in battle and disowned by the royal family, banished to be the viscount of the northern pole. Viscount is actually quite a lofty title, but definitely a demotion when you used to be a prince. He was buried in the Orlin Cemetery. I think it is a museum now, but his remains are reasonably well preserved no doubt, thanks to the low temperatures there."

((OOC: Thank you Ariana for finding one of the hidden pathways in this story ^_^))

As Ajava did not yet find anything, she decided to speak up. Though she knew Trigiel for only a short time, she was well aware of his less than diplomatic approach to problems.

"Don't worry your highness. My companion", Ajava indicated Trigiel, "is a capable physician. What is more important, is that we have your consent to take samples from your crew and some of the other people aboard your ship during your voyage here. This will allow our scientist to factor out any background noise and other things that might cause false negatives. You do want us to be thorough, so we can render an impartial and final verdict, do you not?

I do not wish to interfere with your private life, your highness. Please give us permission to take these samples, and in only a minute you will be done and have ample time to prepare for your date."

((OOC: Were my posts actually taken into account?! I haven't gotten any reaction to my looking around for non-senseable people, and (while I don't particularly care about it, but this makes it seem as if my posts are ignored) Arianna gets credit for something my character directly ordered her to do. Ariana's facial expression became a bit brighter and she looked satisfied for a moment. Briefly after this she looked straight at the Archaeologist.
"How far is it to the Orlin Cemetery? Let me fetch some equipment to collect the samples. I hope this are the last samples we will need to take from any tomb."

Ariana collected some equipment and followed the Archaeologist to the grave of the former prince.
After taking a few samples she would return to the lab and analyze the samples. Comparing them with the previous samples and looking at his position in the family tree.

"I reckon we go to the server room." Nathan whispered to Nalan.

"Be careful around the corners, we don't want to walk into anybody.

Hand signals only from this point."

He checked to door and when he saw no one he held up two fingers side by side, making a cutting motion. The signal to go.

"perhaps the engine room after, they might have something stored there out of the ordinary " Nalan whispered back before switching to hand signals.

When Nathan gave the signal she moved into the server room and looked around for a computer. preferably one in the corner out of sight so it is harder to get caught. "Right, who looks around and who keeps watch? I do not want to get caught in these conditions" Nalan whispered

Trigiel was a little surprised by the un-kinglike behaviour of the would-be king, but ignored it. "I have everything ready. We do not require more samples of you, your highness. But as my companion explained, we require samples of the rest of the crew to be able to truly confirm that you are the one and true king.

What would have your preference? Gathering the persons here or shall we take the list of crew members and walk our way through the ship?"

If the crew gathered in the central chamber, Trigiel started to take samples there. Otherwise he started to walk his way through the ship and took samples on their way, taking a good look at any details about the ship and looked around for possible special forces and operatives.

Needless to say, Trigiel was very thorough with his gathering of samples and did not only used the regular spots.

Nalan and Nathan

Nalan and Nathan snuck off towards the server room, using their Jedi training to make their way to the room safely.

The server room was a lot roomier than expected. All the systems which had been there in the original set-up had been removed and the computer systems had been replaced by a smaller model with just enough capability to run the ship.

More importantly, as the two Jedi soon discovered, the replacement was very recent, every piece of hardware being brand new and no more than a few weeks old. Accessing the system would not be difficult for a skilled slicer, but it was doubtful these machines would offer much information.

It sure seemed convenient, which made it at least somewhat suspicious.

Trigiel and Ajava

"Alright alright then... take your samples." the king finally agreed, moving off to his quarters to get changed.

Trigiel meanwhile gathered samples from the crew, who seemed rather uncomfortable, but they did allow the sample taking. Unfortunately the crew came to him, which meant he was denied an opportunity to spy around, but that also would give Nalan and Nathan more time to do just that.

With the samples taken, all Trigiel would need to do is take the samples back to the lab for Ariana to study them.

Ariana

Ariana meanwhile hitched a ride to the Orlin Cemetery on a space ship, making the trip relatively quickly. The Archaeologist, with some string pulling from the Scir Senator, acquired access to he cemetery to take some new samples, returning to the lab to deal with them.

Ariana, Trigiel and Ajava

((OOC: Moving this ahead a little))

With their respective collecting jobs done, the three Jedi returned to their base of operations where a lab was ready to allow Ariana to study the samples. Nalan and Nathan would join them soon enough, but they had the option to sneak around the ship some more if they wanted to, though with the computer replacement, it suggested there might not be much else to find there.

As Ariana worked in the lab, she soon came to some interesting conclusions: the samples from the crew matched up perfectly with the predicted data. But the Orlin Cemetery sample was way off - there was no way that Viscount Orlin was related to the people from the ship. Or in fact to the people from the tomb they had visited earlier!

((OOC: Urgh. You went a little fast there. Was the woman Nalan described earlier (the force-less girl) amongst the crew we took a sample from? And if so, did Ajava get any indication of her force-abscence or force-presence? Or was she suspiciously and completely absent from the crew? I'd like to get some information on this, as I am specifically looking for such things... and now that gets completely ignored.))

((OOC: I'm sorry, but this time I do not believe I dropped the ball. You attempted to sense if anyone was missing in the Force two posts ago. I answered that question. Next you continued the conversation, making no mention of doing scans on other crew members. Obviously I then don't respond to you not posting that.

Regardless, you do not detect any lack of Force signatures around the crew, as such a special event would have been mentioned in my post.))

((OOC: You didn't drop the ball -- you just fast-forwarded this thread so fast I didn't even have the opportunity to post my check O_o. I just said something to the king, in the course of a conversation (and I could in no way predict the reaction of the king, and you don't like conditional actions!). And based on that you fast-forwarded not only the complete checking of the whole crew (where I was standing next to the sample taker), but our action to move back to the lab as well. I think I'm not really asking that much by inquiring whether my character observed something during that sample-taking-moving-back-now montage...

Regardless, you have not answered my question fully. Based from your answer of my OOC question about the IC situation I assume the following: a sample was taken from her, and she was just a normal person as far as can be determined by looking and sensing with the force. Continuing based on that assumption now (unless otherwise informed).))

"The DNA of viscount Orlin does not match the people from the ship. There is clearly something wrong here. I think we should recover his body and put it into evidence to avoid further tempering.

I could not find anything special with the DNA of the crew members.

I am afraid that we don't have enough evidence with the DNA of viscount Orlin alone. Is their anything else we can use?"

"Arianna", Ajava started, in a friendly tone. "I assume you have a good reason to ignore my orders, and went to wherever you got those samples of Viscount Orlin alone? I expressly asked you not to go alone! How difficult is it to think ahead for once, and instead get some backup before rushing off to do whatever pops in your mind? Instead of just leaving, you could've easily used your communicator to inform us that your were leaving... That way we would at least know where to go looking if you don't come back."

Ajava's expression turned pensive.

"However, I think we have a bigger problem than you refusing to work together.", she said after a while. "It seems Nalan is deliberately withholding information. I met the woman that supposedly interrupted her before she could find anything on their computers. But she was a normal person. I could easily sense her through the force. The only reason I can think of for Nalan to try and deceive us about finding anything is that she is working for some other party, and did not want us to get a hold of whatever she found. As we know she is a skilled infiltrator, she made up a reason why she couldn't find anything."

Ajava grabber her communicator, and transmitter a message to Nathan only (though it was loud enough for Trigiel and Arianna to hear it): "Nathan. I have strong reasons to believe that Nalan is deceiving us and can not be trusted. Please return to the labs as soon as possible, and take Nalan with you."

The only reply Nathan sent back to Shebi Ajava was a very short burst of static.

"..."

"I'll hack the system." He whispered to Nalan. If what Shebi Ajava said was true, something he found hard to believe, he could ensure the data wasn't corrupt.

Hacking into the ships wireless system, Nathan downloaded everything to his internal hard-drive.

"Lets get back to the others, I doubt they risk taking something we could use."

Trigiel didn't quite knew yet what to make of Nalan behaving treacherous, he had to think of it for a while. For now they had a new item on their list: The DNA of viscount Orlin.

"I can think of three main reasons why the DNA does not match: The viscount is not related, the body of the viscount is changed or all the bodies in the royal tomb are changed. We should investigate all three options I think."

With his writing device Trigiel added the item on the projected list.

What do we know?
start:

  • hiker finds the tomb
  • inside tomb, literally every tomb was broken open
  • empty bottles scattered around
  • big mess
bottles
  • irradiated -> they have travelled through space
  • handled by Gamorreans
  • several months old
DNA
  • Perfectly pure DNA from the king
  • No signs of mucking with it at all
  • inherited predisposition heart failure
  • king had 143 unique DNA markers
  • not genetically altered, so it seems
  • tomb DNA had 3 unique markers
  • altogether family profile of 34 unique markers
  • 28 markers should match
  • king matched 29 markers

Group history
  • Lots of inbreeding
  • Kings unaltered predisposition heart failure DNA increased proof he is king
  • Thanks to inbreeding, the king should match 32 markers, not 29
  • Lack of DNA problems in conflict with inbreeding stats
  • 1 mysterious woman: Not mysterious after all

Other
  • One other member found: Viscount Orlin
  • DNA does not match at all.

Arianna processed the information for a moment.

"I am sorry Ajava, but you are not my superior on this mission. I followed up on your suggestion to look for other family members. Since I found one I went their together with the archaeologist. I will communicate where I am going next time, I guess I was to eager to see what we had found and forgot to notify the rest."

"Is Nalan the reason that you did not want me to go alone? Because if this is the case you should have shared this sooner as well. I was not aware that one of our own was acting suspiciously. Let's wait here for the return of Nathan and Nalan before we report anything to the Senator."
