A call had come to the Jedi from the Chancellor, requesting some Jedi to protect Senator Salixa in regards to recent political developments.

((OOC: This mission is in relation to the events in the Senate ( see [ Senate ] Remunzian discussions with the Slave Rebellion )

The mission is intended for lower level Jedi, maximum Force Level 7. There will be a separate mission for higher level Jedi later, which also relates to this storyline. If you are interested, please report in this thread, not in the senate thread.))

The briefing given to the three Jedi had been brief and simple: go to the Senate and protect Senator Salixa. The young Jedi were given a lot of leeway in how they wanted to do so - make a show, or keep things secret, it would be up to them. The only other thing they were told was that the orders had come directly from the Chancellor herself, though of course they were aware of what had transpired in the Senate to start all this.

The three Jedi soon entered the Senate Building. Inside, the Remunzian Embassy was surrounded by a throng of reporters taking up the public hallway. The Senator would no doubt be inside there.

((OOC: Instead of playing out the briefing, I have shortcut it. You have wide authority to take actions about what you think is necessary to ensure the mission. Obviously you cannot clear out the Senate Building or commandeer Star Destroyers, however. Besides, the threat is likely to be more subtle than anything that would require that.

I'll need a list of equipment you are carrying on your person - anything that isn't readily available or not carryable will have to be brought to your location during the course of the adventure.

If you have additional questions regarding equipment or the briefing, please feel free to ask OOC))

Jaicen came straight out of a meditation session when he heard the call. He floated quickly to his chamber and gathered his three droids and equipment.

During the briefing Jaicen met up with his two fellow Padawan, which he had seen before in the Jedi Temple, but not during a mission. "Allright, we have to make a plan quickly before we take any action. We don't know what the chancellor wants herself and whether she'd like to go to Remunzian space. If she only needs to be protected we need to obtain a jedi transport/fighter, with enough supplies for a few months, clear the logs of departure, check on bugs, tell nobody where we are going, obscure the hyperdrive signature and go to a random piece of space. Since space is big, they will not find us. Another, worse, option is to go on the run and hide, or go to the jedi temple and guard her there."

After Jaicen rambling he paused for a minute, visibly tired and TG-100 said with a metallic voice: "Erase that, I think first we should secure the Senator, take her to the Jedi temple and then discuss with her the next plan. I suggest my droid and Nathan act as bodyguards in front of the press, so that the press knowns she is being protected by, at least one, Jedi, while I float around with the rest of my droids as a servant of some sorts and Tera does the reconnaissance of the terrain/vehicles, I guess we need at least one strong vehicle to move her to the Jedi temple safely. Any opinions?"

((OOC: ((OOC: My equipment
- Hoverchair with computer, camera, scanner, communicator and storage units
- Small blaster in a compartment of the chair (For emergencies)
- GT-100 droid with DEM crystal and a concealed yellow lightsaber
- 2-1B surgical/nursing droid
- One Astromech/Maintenance droid

- Data crystal with his ID
- Several credits
- Food and drinks stored in the hoverchair
- Extra Fuel for the hoverchair))))

Nathan quickly fetched his gear and then headed for the Senate building. He listened to Jaicens idea before interjecting.

"No way, not happening. During transport the senator is more vulnerable. The Senate building is more then secure enough. Additionally, she is not going back to Remunzian space, regardless of what she wants. As far as we know that area is a hotzone."

Nathan grabbed a nearby security guard and told him to clear out the reporters from the hallway. He then turned to Tera.

"Tera, can you secure the hallway? Report any suspicious activity or packages."

"Jaicen, could you have your combat droid guard the door?"

He started moving to the embassy door, wanting to get to the senator as soon as possible.

"Well, I'd rather have the person at a known safe location, one we know the inns and outs from, and since this incident just happened, nobody is able to plan a hijacking on a secure transport vessel. We don't know a thing about the senate building. Plus, We are here to protect her, not to restrict her movements."

If there was only one door, Jaicen put his combat droid near the senate door, allowing people out, but not in. Not even important delegates. With his other droids jaicen hovered to the group of reporters.

If there were more doors, Jaicen put his combat droid near the crowd.

((OOC: We are at the senate, there are many doors here I assume. (Assuming it looks like the senate building from star wars lore)

Not trying to play your character and no problem if these are you actions, but your character looks miltary. So hereby an OC advice on miltary third party protection: One of the things to secure people is never keep them for a prolonged time in the same unsecured location. Our characters are not familiar with the senate building, nor how many people there are and what the angles for attack are. Furthermore, nobody is able to plan a hijacking on a different vehicle than the car in which the senator normallly moves in this short time period. If they are, we are screwed anyhow, because they have sufficient force.

On the sidenote, we are jedi :)))

((OOC: Neither whether or not our respective characters are familiar with the senate building or whether or not someone is able to plan a hijacking, or ambush, is for you to decide. The former is decided by the player of each respective character. The latter is decided by the storyteller. Furthermore it's the SENATE BUILDING. It's probably one of the most secure locations on Unity, if not in the entire Union.))

((OOC: Allright, a comparison, if I wanted to assasinate a dutch senate member near the parlement, there are many ways to do it with ease, a reporter even did it once on television. (And you are just picking out one argument, the unfamiliarity one, to disvalidate my entire argument). It might be true that it is more secure than outside, but so is the jedi temple even more.

About the highjacking, it is all a game of chance/likelyhood and amount of resources (in real life), OF COURSE I know that the ST decides: Just giving an OOC experienced perspective, since I've had several classes/seminars on this topic.

Edit: We finished this discussion in PM :).))

After the briefing, Tera quickly gathered her limited amount of gear. She then went to the quartermaster to get a big bag, and filled it with rations, bottles of water, a tube of red lipstick and three sets of clothing — one set basically another Jedi robe, one a casual business suit, and one a really colourful green dress with fake leaves and such.

"Ehm", Tera started as Nathan ordered her to guard the hallway, "Wouldn't it be better if you did that? You are the badass cyborg with the sight enhancements, and are probably well-trained in guarding? Besides, I don't think that two cyborgs should be handling the interaction with the Remunzian senator, the Remunzians are not known for their great love of technology... And you both kinda failed to get along with their nature in their system on their planet, right?"

"Also, I brought this enormous amount of food for the senator. Since no one is even going to be able to sneak a weapon into the senate building — brilliant scanning setup at the doors, really — And not a single person will be able to get a sniper shot off that actually hits the building — the security is really top-notch here, with the active reflective shielding that pre-empts shots, on top of the bullet-proofed walls and windows. Oh, and that's not even taking into account the enormous amount of security personnel, as well as the small horde of Jedi that's crawling over the building as we speak."

Tera seemed to be rambling a bit and appears to have some difficulty containing her knowledge on the topic.

"Basically the only way to assassinate the senator would be to get her to kill herself — and that's really difficult usually, trust me — Or to impersonate someone from the Remunzian embassy security — they get to carry guns and can walk around inside the embassy I guess, but that requires a lot of preparation — And finally you could strap a bomb to someone's chest and have them run inside and commit suicide by bomb — that's easier said than done though, as you really need a good bomb and that triggers the sensors and all. Oh, and you could poison all the food meant for the Remunzian embassy — I'm pretty sure they source locally grown ecologically balanced bio-foods, and small farms are notoriously bad at security."

"Anyway, my point is this. How many assassinations did you actually perform? Because you have to take into account a lot of factors, and I'm guessing I'm the only one with experience? I suggest that we go in there, kick everyone except for the senator out of the room, and only then will we discuss the actual plan... Not while there are reporters basically everywhere listening in on us."

Not offering any option to gainsay her, she simply follows Nathan into the Remunzian embassy.

((OOC: Equipment for Tera Inogo:
  • Tera's lightsabers: two yellow, short-bladed, regular hilt lightsabers.
  • A lasercutter for slicing into computer cables, a set of small crocodile clamps, and an assembly level interfacing module. (i.e., her low-level slicing kit)
  • 3 weeks worth of rations
  • about 3 days worth of water
  • An extra set of Jedi robes
  • A casual business suit
  • A "remunzian" styled dress — or at least a facisimile of one with non-organic materials
  • one tube of red lipstick, the kind Tera uses herself

While TG-100 was guarding the pathway, not letting anyone in, Jaicen hissed at the remark of Tera: "I am no cyborg..... and if you want a comparison, do you think it's better to allow an escaped-murderer to talk to the Remunzians than two ... cyborgs?"

Jaicen did not know for sure whether Tera was being sarcastic or trying to prove something with her rambling, but nodded in agreement with Tera's last statement and went with Nathan to the ambassador to kick everyone out and let Nathan do the first talk with the ambassador.

Tera looks at Jaicen, suprised at his reaction.

"Yes. Because at least I know what I'm talking about. And you can claim you're no cyborg, but you can't even get around without technology, and you literally use a metal body to continue speaking when you get tired.", the way she said it it was clear she did not mean for it to be hurtful, "Regardless, I said the Remunzians don't like technology, I don't think they care if the tech is cybernetic or not."

((OOC: I see that apparently another topic moved the chancellor from the Senate to the Embassee of the Remunzians, I find this a little bit forward and odd, since we might choose not allow that as a jedi. Might it be better to combine the threads. Also there are reporters around the ambassador according to this thread, I guess this is makes a timing error....))

Nathan decided to cut into the discussion between his fellow padawans before they entered the embassy.

"Calm yourselves, both of you. Take a deep breath." He said, his voice was calm and collected. "We are on a mission and need to work together. We are jedi, that and protecting the Senator is all that matters right now. I'm not asking you to like each other, just to show you can work together as professionals."

With that Nathan finished his reprimand of Jaicen and Tera. Hopefully he had cut further arguments short.

After the three of them had entered the embassy and were in front of the Remunzian Senator, he bowed to the Senator.

"Senator, I am Padawan Nathan Miodrass Asillion. These are my colleagues, Padawan Jaicen Hedoss and Padawan Tera Inogo. We are here to protect you at the request of the Jedi Council and the Chancellor."

If the Chancellor was also here he bowed to her as well.

((OOC: Not sure if the Chancellor is here. So just in case I put the last line in.))

((OOC: Some clarifications:

The Senate Building is a huge building in the center of Unity City. It is the tallest structure in the city and contains the Senate Hall at the top of the building, in addition to many offices of Senators and embassies from various nations.

I put you guys in one of the many hallways of the building leading to the embassy of the Silver Forests of Remunzia. You are not in / around the Senate Hall, but in a generic hallway leading up to the embassy.

From where you were, you were not visible to the press, so you could decide if you want the press to see you go in or not. In either case, the main entrance to the embassy is crawling with press right now, looking for a scoop.

Next, there is a thread in the Politics forum where Senator Salixa is discussing certain matters with the Chancellor. It should be noted that this discussion is not done in front of the Jedi, but rather inside the Embassy, which is not where you are right now. The talk there will have concluded by the time the Jedi come in.

Equipment notes

Jaicen, I notice you are bringing three droids - the adventures are intended for the Jedi, not for a small army of droids. I will allow it, in the understanding that Jaicen uses these droids to compensate for his physical inability and his long term maintenance. I won't allow them to be used as secondary characters or to provide skills you do not have points in such as medicine or first aid and such.))

The heroes moved through the hoard of reporters who flashed camera's and made images of the people entering the Remunzian Embassy, one even trying to get inside the Embassy as the Jedi entered, though a stern look quickly made sure that they abandoned the attempt to get an exclusive.

In the Embassy, which itself consisted of a dozen rooms or so with about a hundred or so employees total, they were directed to the Senators office by one of the members of the staff.

The Senators office was designed to look like a natural setting, the couch made of stone with soft moss to sit on. Along the walls and by the glass windows were planters filled with greenery, and the Jedi were reasonably sure that there were various animals hiding between the plants, some of them even flying or crawling about the room. It was like living in the tropical section of a zoo, honestly, except that it was more temperate.

In the room was the Senator herself, who looked rather distraught. She was wearing a long light brown gown of fake leather with a slender skirt, a tight corset in darker brown hugging her form and long gloves to match her gown covering her arms and disappearing into its puffy sleeves. Her birds stayed in her hair quietly, making very little sound and motion, as if they were frightened. The Chancellor was here as well.

((OOC: Thanks for the explanation/clarification. Droids are only flavour and I will not use my medical or astromech droid for real problemsolving or storywise things. TG-100 is more advanced though, but only when in reach of Jaicen, otherwise he is just like another droid.))

The chancellor acknowledged the existence of the Jedi with a barely perceptible nod. She seems to be in a rather serious mood.

"Padawan Asillion, Hedoss and Inogo, it is good that you are here. The protection of Senator Salixa of the Silver Forests of Remunzia is of the utmost importance, the future of the Silver Forests and even the Union may depend on it.

She is not to leave Unity, and should remain available at all times to act as the representative of the Silver Forests of Remunzia in matters of state. Furthermore, as I have already discussed with her, details of the current situation should not be discussed with the press, anyone not in direct service to the Union or any support personnel.

If there is anything you need to ensure the safety of the senator, do not hesitate to contact me directly."

The chancellor lets a short pause fall so the Jedi can ask anything they need of her right now, but appears ready to leave the room and let the Jedi do their thing if they have no requests.

Decisively but with a rough voice Jaicen said: "Understood". Jaicen said this himself, since TG-100 stood guard at the door. "If possible, could we have an indication on the duration of the assignment?" Then, turning to the other Jedi present in the room: "You have anything to add?"

Nathan cast a glance toward the Remunzian Senator as the Chancellor spoke, attempting to get a better feel for how she was feeling.

"We understand, Chancellor." He said, bowing his head. "I am certain you have other matters to attend to. We won't keep you any longer, you can leave this to us."

After the Chancellor had left, Nathan turned to the Senator.

"You seem distressed, Senator. Is there anything we can do to help?" The Astrian Jedi asked with a concerned tone. "If you fear for your safety, you can rest assured. We will protect you with our lives."

Nathan was trying to help the Senator to calm down. While he was doing that he was also trying to get a tactical overview of the current room, exit and entry points, defensive positions and danger points.

Jaicen was inclined to help Nathan with his mind tricks, but let Nathan do his thing. First Jaicen let Nathan do his calming and tactical overview, noting exactly where Nathan looked at and what he found interesting with his military experience.

After the senator had spoken Jaicen asked: "Is it possible to obtain a list from embassy workers, to determine whether anyone inside the embassy is in contact with the slave rebellion? I can program a signal droid which follows possible illegal holonet communication emittors"
