((OOC: This is a continuation of [14 -8] Investigating the Tunuaranan moonquakes for the Space Team consisting of Jaicen Hedoss and Ariana Danacia.))

Ariana's forward thinking makes sure that the course to the orbiting satellite is already plotted out, and with several minutes to spare, she takes up the ship into a low orbit. From there, manoeuvring up to the orbital height of the satellite is child's play: this high in orbit the thinning faint wisps of atmosphere have no influence on the ship.

As they approach the satellite it is clear that it is not operative. In fact, they can clearly see impact damage of some kind of blast or physical impact on one side of the power bank. Looking over the design specifications they have from the Jedi Temple, the learn that the power lanes on the satellite can be rerouted manual — which would require suiting up and going outside of their comfortable vessel to manually adjust the satellite's power routing, and probably power cycle the satellite's system by hand as well.

Looking over the design, both Jedi quickly notice that if they can get the satellite powered up again, one of them can access the satellite's low-level operating system via an interface on the ship by wiring the ship's system-to-system bus to the satellite's connector port. That would definitely ease diagnostics, as one of them can work outside while the other works the diagnostic software.

Of course, if they want to get the satellite working again, only a thorough diagnosis will tell what needs to be done exactly... And for that, they need to power up the satellite.

" There are several things we need to do.
Step 1. Rerouting the power of the satellite.
Step 2. Cycling the power.
Step 3. Connect the ship to the satellite.
Step 4. Run a diagnostic on the system.
Step 5. Get the gathered data.

Well I guess it is time to suit up for me. Good thing I brought my space-suit. I guess it is the logical thing to do. I deal with the satellite up close and you handle the software from here? Maybe one of your droids can assist me?"

The designs of the sattelite spread out before him on a holoscreen Jaicen mumbled: "I agree on the steps, Master Ariana, however.... hmmm.. I'd like to examine the source of the blast first, It looks kinda suspicious, which destroyed the power banks. Maybe I can do that while you prepare yourself and your tools. "

"Ah yeah, I will assist you with TG-100, to work with, I will put him on cooperative mode with you, just tell him what to do. My science droid will assist me here with the diagnostics and monitoring, I will monitor everything from the inside of the ship, and let's stay in radio contact."

While Ariana prepared her tools and her spacesuit Jaicen looked outside towards the sattelite to investigate the source of the powerbank destruction. If it was available he used video data which he enlarge. He mainly wanted to determine if the cause was a space-rock, or a laser discharge.

((OOC: Since no check is taken by Jaicen I am presuming that he has no applicable skills. I'm reasonably sure that my presumption is false, but it's your job to write down a check, not mine. Next time, if you take a significant action, please add a check. Furthermore, I'm assuming Ariana actually wants to suit up, instead of only talking about it. @Chriz: feel free to abort if that was not your intention.))

While Ariana was suiting up, Jaicen tries to get video data. However, with the satellite not repaired yet, there is simply no way to get to the data — if the satellite even has any video recordings of it's external frame at all... Looking out the window, Jaicen can only determine that it was a physical impact with some force. He can not determine whether the damage is from an energy blast, some kind of physical projectile, or even a micro-meteorite.

Despite being unable to identify the source of the damage, Jaicen does see several of the power lanes that are completely destroyed. With the schematic, he can assist Ariana's work on the satellite by figuring out what power lanes need to be rerouted.

Meanwhile, Ariana was almost ready to get out there and start work on the satellite. She'd only need to use the airlock to get outside, and manoeuvre herself towards the satellite to start working.

((OOC: Furthermore, to prevent unneccesary "Do'h!" moments, I'd like to point out that TG-100 is a battledroid without any specialized zero-G equipment. Just like all the other droids intended for planetary use (and nearly all characters) he is not very capable of zero-G manoeuvring. So unless you two find a way to make him useful, he'll probably just float away once outside in space...))

((OOC: You are right, I forgot to apply a skill. Well: Too late.))

While Ariana is suiting up. Jaicen responds on the intercom: "It looks a bit worse than I thought: Several powerlanes are completely destroyed. I got the schematic here though, so I will assist you from the inside to see what power lanes need to be rerouted. I can't determine the cause of the impact, be careful out there. Maybe it is redundant, but please attach yourself with a rope to the ship"

"TG-100 will stand behind the energy shield to assist you in any way necessary"
((OOC: I Assume the airlock is an airlock like in the movies as in the hangar bays of the big ships with a passable shield))

Ariana suited up, took some basic tools from the ship and prepared a rope to tie her to the outside of the ship. Although her spacesuit was equipped with boosters in the case that she would float away from the ship she was rather safe than sorry.

Ariana moved through the airlock and hooked herself to the side of the ship. After securing the rope she carefully floated towards the satellite.

Before actually starting to work on the circuitry Ariana first rotated around the satellite to get a better look at the current situation.

After assessing the situation Ariana started rerouting the power, one circuit at a time. After a few circuits she notices the pattern and starts to up her speed. She uses her telekinetic powers to switch tools and handle certain actions at a short distance.

((OOC: @Jaicen: Yes, you are flying and small freighter, so the "airlock" is indeed a passable shield.

All checks are Approved!))

Ariana maneuvres towards the sattelite with practiced ease, and can start working within a few minutes of leaving the ship.

With expert guidance from Jaicen, who turns out to be a natural at reading the construction schematics and relaying necessary information over the radio, Ariana starts the process of repairing the sattelite's subsystems. Using her mastery of the Force allows her to act as if she had an extra pair of claws, making the most of her precious time in the cold vacuum of space. After a few hours, she is capable of detaching the broken power lanes. TG-100 dutifully catches the broken parts and lays them out neatly next to each other inside the hangar.

With the damaged power lanes removed, the work of assessing the damage to other subsystems surrounding the impact site begins. After another three hours, Ariana discovers the source of the damage: a micro-meteorite is burried deep inside the sattelite's power cells. Seeing the extent of the damage, it is a miracle that the power cells haven't overloaded and shorted the whole power subsystem. With half an hour of work, Ariana removes the power cells with the embedded meteorite.

With the damage being more extensive than originally expected, Ariana returns to the ship after working for 6 and a half hours. She took with her several parts that needed to be replaced, not the least of them being the power cells.

With the first day of repairs behind them the Jedi quickly estimate that they would be working for another two days. The second day of repairs will have to be spent acquiring or building replacement parts and power cells, which can be done in paralel to the delicate work of repairing the damaged subsystems around the impact site; at the end of this day the replacement parts can be installed.

If they succeed in repairing the subsystems and installing the power cell, the third day they will see them having the basic diagnostics up and running. With those, the pair can work on diagnosing and recalibrating the undamaged subsystems -- if all goes according to plan!

For now, even though there's no real day and night in space, the work has them exhausted for the day.

((OOC: I'm going to do the repair work in two posting-cycles. The first will be for the second day of repairs where one of you will have to make/get a replacement power cell (note that flying away to get one means either leaving the other in space hoping to be back in time, or not doing paralel work!)

Of course, you are free to talk/plan/scheme as much as you want; just make sure you eventually have a distribution of work and make the necessary checks for the second day of repairs.))

As Ariana signaled to come back after 6.5 hours , Jaicen praised Ariana for her work: "Well performed master Ariana, luckily the cause was just a meteorite and no hostile act. With this pace I assume it will take two more days, we first have to build replacement parts or obtain them from somewhere else. Tonight I will make up a list which replacement parts we need, which we have and which we can make and which we need to procure."

"Since you are more agile in space, I will assume that I will procure the items myself and you will fix the items, am I allowed to leave you near the satellite and return within 6 hours if I can't make the replacement parts myself?"

If the conversation is over Jaicen tries to make a list which items are needed: ((Check: 13 = 5 Force Level + 5 Reason + 3 Mechanical Engineer -- ))

"I understand what you plan to do however I don't really like the idea of being left here in space without a ship. As far as I know we are not that much in a hurry... Although I trust your intentions to be back in time my gut is telling me that it is much safer to stay together with the ship.

I will join you on the supply run tomorrow morning. Some variation in the work will do me good."

Ariana checked the list that Jaicen made. She discussed the items that he put on it and added some small parts that would help make the repairs easier.

After going over the list Ariana takes a couple of hours of sleep.

In the morning Ariana pilots the ship to the nearest supply station or city where they expect to find the required supplies.

((OOC: The check is approved.))

Jaicen and Ariana determine that they can salvage some parts of the damaged powercells to make a replacement powercell if they can get their hands on a few replacement parts. Making a list of all the needed parts is easy for the two experienced mechanics, and they quickly have a list of simple and easily-obtainable parts. With a supply-run imminent, Ariana adds some useful parts to ease the repairs.

After taking some well-deserved rest, the pair sets out to the nearest city. Here, they find that while the local industry seems to be about iron-working, some merchants do keep an interesting inventory of low-tech parts and second-hand tools. As Ariana is haggling with one of the merchants about the price — apparently the man gives very little about Ariana's mission to repair the satellite, and instead likes to sell his goods at as high a price as possible — Jaicen hears a familiar voice: that of Lady Vitress.

She is speaking in a happy and light tone to one of her companions as she enters the shop. She wears a modest dark-blue dress. And has her brown hair in two braided buns on the sides of her head. Her neck is adnored with a silver necklace from which dangles a pendant made from a shared of blue-ish crystal. Her companions are a pair of togruta guards both wearing blasters and carrying hefty hammers that seem as if they would do equally well hammering on an anvil as well as hammering on a non-believer.

She does not seem to have noticed the Jedi yet. If Ariana pays quickly, the pair of jedi will easily be able to leave the shop without drawing attention to themselves — though there is not actual reason to do so, other than saving time by not talking to her.

((OOC: I'll leave it up to you if you want to talk with Lady Vitress. If so, I'll try to post replies as fast as humanly possible to speed up the dialogue.

EDIT: Fixed typo of "ship" → "shop" so the sentence makes more sense.))

Jaicen let Ariana do the haggling, as Jaicen wasn't that much of an expert on the topic. Furthermore he felt that he did not have the patience for it. He just stood and watched and learned, until he heard the voice of Lady Vitress.

"Ariana, I see Lady Vitress over there, You probably remember her from the last trip. She was an assistant of the Bisshop. Can I say hello to her?"
With a confirmation Jaicen's TG-100 and Jaicen went over to Lady Vitress.

TG-100 then spoke to the guards accompanying her: "Excuse me sirs, before you leave, could I speak to Lady Vitress, I am Jedi Padawan Jaicen Hedoss and we have had contact on the previous trip." Jaicen and the TG-100 made sure not to stand too close to be perceived as dangerous.

"Oh, Jedi Jaicen!", Lady Vitress replies before the guards even had time to say something.

"I am happy to see you once more", she says as she waves her hand at the guards to make them continue on into the shop. "What brings you to this moon again?"

((OOC: @Chriz: I am understanding your action correctly in that Ariana does not join for the short talk to Lady Vitress and joins up with Jaicen outsider after the short intermezzo? If not, I'll write you in in my next post, after the two minutes haggling period ^_^))

Jaicen rides to lady Vitress and tells her "We have come back to assist you in finding the cause of the earthquakes and to repair the satellite the Jedi order gave to your people to monitor the places where your gods are more active with the earthquakes. Currently Ariana and I are buying equipment for this."

"What are you doing in this place, and why the guards?" TG-100 continues.

Ariana finishes her transaction with the trader. She hands him the agreed upon stack of credits and thanks him for his vigor. Ariana leaves the stores and joins Jaicen and Lady Vitress.

Ariana is walking towards them during the response of Lady Vitress.

"Oh, the guards?", she looks at the guards as they started haggling with the shopkeeper, "They are here to make sure that nothing happens to me. I don't think I really need them, but the bishop insists."

"We're here to buy portable water condensors, and hopefully an earth drill. Then, I can bring the condensors to villages that have lost their wells to the earthquakes, and we will use the earth drill to help them dig new wells."

"Good luck with the repair of the sattellite, Jedi Jaicen. I am sure that with you there, nothing can go wrong!", as the previous time, Lady Vitress was rather enthuisiastic about Jaicen's abilities.

Ariana arrives just as Lady Vitress finished her reply. Ariana, with her praetorian background, notices the the pendant Lady Vitress wears, is made from a shard of blue-ish crystal that has an odd gleam to it, almost as if it has an inner light that brightens it.

"That is quite nice of you to help these people, I thought you were the advisor to the bishop only. Seems like you are suited to much more." TG-100 continues while Jaicen sits next to it, looking at the guards haggling. "Well, I am a Jedi, not a god, and since it is space it can go wrong, space is dangerous, but I will do my best! Another thing: Why are you called Lady, I'd like to know your prename, or it is so formal!"

"Greetings Lady Vitress, how nice to see you again."

Ariana is about to ask her a question when her glance catches the crystal in her pendant. Her eyes spark and she is noticably distracted for two seconds. ".. What a lovely pendant." She utters.

"Did I miss anything?" Ariana adds when she notices that she just entered in the middle of a conversation.

Lady Vitress giggled at Jaicen's joke about her name.

"Actually, my name is simply Vitress, but the bishop insists that I be called 'Lady' due to my high station as his advisor.", she looked at Jaicen with an challenging look, "You can call me Vitress of you want, but I'll call you Jaicen then.", she said with a smile.

"Hello Jedi Ariana, I was just wishing Jedi Jaicen good luck with the repair of the sattellite.", Lady Vitress happily explained. "And now, I'm afraid I have to go, I see that my guards have some trouble with the haggling."

True to her statement, the guards seemed to be in a heated conversation with the trader.

"Maybe we can celebrate your success after you are done?", she looks at Jaicen as she asks, hesitating with walking to the guards to get an answer from Jaicen.

Jaicen smiled back and noticed Ariana mumbling about the crystal, making a mental note about it.
Turning to Vitress again, with TG-100 making a tiny mocking bow, he stated: "Wow, such an important person, I am truly and utterly humbly honored to be in your presence, Vitress".
A bit sad that Jaicen could not continue talking to her he then said: "Sure thing, Good luck guarding your guards, here have my Holonet adress?"
Jaicen pulled up his communication device on his hovercar and gave Vitress his address. "I will also call you if we fail though, so be warned and see you later!"

After the conversation is over and Lady Vitress was busy with her guards, Jaicen waved one last time and turned to Ariana asking: "Did you get all the supplies we need from the trader and... what is wrong with that pendant of hers if I may ask, you seemed to recognize it, didn't you also see it on our last visit?"

"I believe we have everything we need. We even got them for a reasonable price."

Ariana looks a little bit offended. "There is nothing wrong with the pendant. Don't you recognize the quality of the crystal? I guess you don't have an eye for it."

Ariana's mood changes back to normal like nothing happened. "Let's head back to the ship and continue our work on the satellite."

Ariana returns to the ship and plots a course back to the satellite in orbit around the planet.

"Very nice, by the way, does the Jedi order pay for this?" Jaicen asked, although he did not really care, he just wondered. Continuing: "I am not a crystal connoisseur, sorry. The only crystal I use is the DEM crystal within TG-100... Wait, since you know more about crystals, could you take a look at the DEM crystal on our way back and maybe identify it? I obtained it from my master, so I do not know where it comes from."

Jaicen then followed Ariana back on the ship.

"Yes we always get some spending money for these kinds of missions. Although most of this is sponsored by the factions of the Union. When I need something extra like a ship or even a military convoy I can also ask my faction directly. They can usually free up a lot of spendable money when I ask nicely.

About that crystal of yours. I know a thing or two about crystals. I will take a look at it when we have the time. This will probably on our way back or maybe at the rendezvous when we are waiting for the other group.

Your master? Who gave it to you?"
