After several weeks the rumours about the missing jedi have only escalated. The council advised all jedi not to dwell on rumours but to little success.

A number of jedi have been asked to come to Master Leithor's office. As they arrived the Jedi Master stood with his back to the door, staring out the large window.

((OOC: You can now sign up for this mission. It is the continuation of [ Unity City ] A comrade missing (part 1). If you didn't participate in that mission you are advised to read the mission report.

Posting frequency will be once a week. Mission reward will be 2 or 3 (:xp) depending on how you do and the quality of roleplay. Max. 3 people.))

Ajava already suspected what this was about, though she still patiently waited for the master to tell them of the mission.

((OOC: Depending on Mercury's reaction to my request, I might be able to spend my current (:xp) before this mission really starts.

EDIT: My character is already progressd, consider this post to be made just after that moment.))

With a small wave of his hand the door closed and locked and the security blinds on the windows closed. Turning around to face the three jedi, Master Leithor looked worried.

"Before we start, not a word said from this point on leaves this room. Understood?" The Jedi Master paused. "Good."

"As you are all aware, Jedi Knight Irina Hightower ran away from the jedi temple and subsequently disappeared over a month and half ago. The reason why is still unknown. And it seems we aren't the only ones interested in where she has gone.

After a long search we finally have a clue as to her whereabouts. We managed to track down the pilot she was seen with. Her name is Patrice 'Pat' Wingman. Apparently she was an informant of Irina."

The fact Irina Hightower had an informant wasn't very shocking, lots of jedi maintained their own private sources and informants.

"After we finally tracked her down we have found out she has spent the last six weeks on a planet called Quarsti IV in sector 9 -8. She has been seen in one of the planets mayor cities. It's likely Irina is there as well.

Your mission is to find out why she left and track her down if possible, she is not to be harmed unless there is no other option.

Any questions?"

((OOC: Please add your equipment list to your next post. I'm holding to your stats as they are on 24-09-2014 unless you note a change OOC before I claim: "Mission Start!"

@Trigiel: could you please add your character page as the website for your profile. It makes it easier for me to check your stats. :)))

Ajava was most interested in the master's reply to the question, but had a question of her own afterwards.

"Master, do we know who is interested in her as well, and what kind of resources they have used so far?"

She plans on looking up the planet and region in the jedi library after the briefing, so she can optimize her gear.

((OOC: Equipment:
  • Her lightsabers, Talavāra and Katāra
  • Her composite recurve bow, with 35 durasteel-tipped arrows
  • Holograph projector with images of missing Jedi Knight (both in Jedi robes and in a casual outift)
  • A wireless communicator headset, worn
  • A99 Aquata Breather
  • Translator device, loaded with known languages and dialects for the region we are going to
  • A stack of credits
  • A sealed emergency pack with survival gear for one week: (e.g., sturdy space-proof backpack, chemical water purifier, water bag, rations, single person tent, flashlight, emergency radio, a few chemical torches, sturdy rope, etc.)
Normal clothing is assumed under clothing and stuff, but made explicit here because I take multiple sets with me:
  • Normal armor + belt for sabers
  • Onyx Series 5 with Carbon nano-fiber plating, Visor with dynamic range adjustment, and infra-red vision; Can open and close fresh-air seals (allows indoor use without wasting precious breathing mixture); Multiple points to attach gear, allowing at least the attachment of both lightsaber to the left and right thighs, and a bow on the back.
  • Jedi robes

Ariana was not really clear on what they were supposed to do.

"Is this hostile territory? How do the locals look at us Jedi? Is their a reason to go in covert?"

Ariana looked towards Shebi Ajava and Trigiel.

"I will get us a ship from quartermaster Nishra."

Ariana was ready to go to quartermaster Nishra to arrange a ship and get her equipment. Unless the mission required a stealthy approach she arranged for a bit larger ship since she kind of had enough of sneaking around in a minimalistic ship on her last few missions.

((OOC: Equipment for Ariana:
  • Dagger blade and regular blade lightsabers with short handles
  • Communication pad (A very advanced touchscreen computer device for communication and interfacing with larger systems)
  • Aerodynamic Backpack (containing First Aid Kit, Engineers Kit and the communication pad), worn
  • A wireless communicator headset, worn
  • A99 Aquata Breather
  • Two DH-17 blaster pistols
  • Two sets of 5 lightweight throwing knives
  • A sealed emergency pack with survival gear for one week: (e.g., sturdy space-proof backpack, chemical water purifier, water bag, rations, single person tent, flashlight, emergency radio, a few chemical torches, sturdy rope, etc.)
  • Custom-made Praetorian space-suit with boosters.

((OOC: Sorry I forgot to describe the planet.))

"No she hasn't, Trigiel. However she left without any form of notice. The council wants to hear the reason from her personally. Considering the circumstances around her disappearance she may need to be convinced to return." The way Master Leithor said 'convinced' suggested they might need to use force to return her.

"The reason for secrecy is that this is a very serious internal matter for the Jedi as Irina was a candidate to become a Jedi Master and join the council. The council doesn't wish to instil a conflict in the senate over whether or not they should interfere."

He turned to Ajava and Ariana.

"Unfortunately we still have no idea who is after Irina. We only know the two observed asking about her are guns for hire.

The local population on Quarsti is indifferent about Jedi. You won't be going in covert, but you won't be announcing your presence either.

Your mission is to find out exactly where Knight Irina Hightower is and should you come across her try to bring her back to the Temple.

Any other questions? No? Good. Dismissed."

The doors of Master Leithors office opened and the blinds opened again.

Ajava quickly found Quarsti IV in the library, it was a simple planet with about 200 million inhabitants. There where about seventeen large cities spread across the planet. The atmosphere was a normal type I. All in all, it was an insignificant but rich, average world, outside the Union.

Quartermaster Nishra was not very pleased by the equipment Ariana requested.

"There's no need for an Aquata Breather in the city, Knight Danacia. Nor is there for survival gear. And a space-suit? Seriously? Do you plan on getting out of the ship during your trip there?

As for the ship, it's already waiting for you. It'll take you where you need to go."

When Ajava came to her with similar requests she shook her head.

"I'm telling you the same as Knight Danacia. You'll be going around a city. You don't need a breathing device or a survival pack. And unless you plan to fight a war on your way there that Onyx 5 is staying here. You're over packed with all those clothes as you are."

((OOC: Ajava and Ariana please adjust you equipment list as per Quartermaster Nishra's instructions. Trigiel: Approved

If you want to do anything else at the temple, please do so in your next post. Unless it's something that hold you up you will arrive on Quarsti IV in my next post.

@Trigiel: I know but I'd like it if I could access your character page while making my post, which is currently only possible through a needless detour that takes longer and more actions on my part. (yes, I'm lazy like that)))

"I am sorry Quartermaster Nishra but as a Jedi Knight I take this mission very serious. I hope that I am not needing the spacesuit or the survival gear on this missions since I prefer the city.

However I know that tracking people can lead you to harsh locations or remote space stations thats why I want to be prepared. I have a feeling that we might encounter those who are after Irina or have to go looking for them. I just want to be prepared for the basics.

If you have any complaints about my weapons not being fit for this missions I am all ears, but we would like to be prepared and take that survival gear with us on the ship just in case. Thank you."

Ariana does not intend to ask any more for such basic equipment. If Nishra does not allow it she will put this incident in her report and probably buy some equipment on her own, with the Praetorian Empire as her sponsor, credits is not the issue.

((OOC: Well, do'h. If I OOCly had known the planet is an Type I with cities, I wouldn't have listed all kinds of backup gear for Ajava in my OOC note. However, since I did not get the opportunity to OOCly adjust for the new IC information and instead get an IC earful for something I did OOCly, I'll just roll with the roleplay here ^_^))

Ajava listened to quartermaster Nishra telling her what she needed and didn't need as if she were still a young padawan learner. As she listened, she realized the real problem: she had sent a written request to the quartermaster

"With all due respect, quartermaster", she calmly replied to, "There is no need to tell me what I can and can not take like I am a padawan learner on her first mission. I apologize for the extra work I incurred with the additional equipment, and I do sincerely apologize for the fact that I had to send you a written equipment request, as I know you like for people to just tell you what they need.

Please, let me just tell you why I want to take these items with me, I am sure you will understand why I asked for them.

An aquata breather is not absolutely necessary in an urban environment, but as you know as well as I do, it is only ten centimeters in size and it can be used to protected against gas-based attacks such as gas grenades. I have no idea what kind of operatives I will encounter on this mission, so I would not like to be caught unprepared.

I asked for an Onyx series 5 to get a greater set of options should I have a need to go beyond the normal environment, which has happened to me a few times in the past now. And I would really like to bring my own equipment with me, instead of relying on second-hand equipment that might not even be available. I can probably do without, if it is inconvenient to arrange for one right now. I'll make sure to have one on hand next time, so the problem won't repeat itself."

"Again, I sincerely apologize for being inconsiderate and sending a written request. Though I still think I will be better off with the equipment I requested, I can not give you any further details on the 'why' since master Leithor asked me not to discuss the mission outside his office. I think that you might be better off taking up the issue of what equipment I might need with master Leithor, if you still disagree."

Ajava's mood lightened a little after getting that off her chest. Glad that she caught the problem, she had one nagging thing to ask:

"But the one thing that really gets me, and I can not stress this enough, is that I do not understand how I can be overpacked with my current list of clothing. As you well know, I do not wear anything other than my armor and belt, and my jedi robe is only a cloak; so how would I be overpacked with that? I did not even intend to request a new Jedi robe, nor a new armor. I am perfectly happy with my current armor and jedi robe, So I will literally be carrying three pieces of clothing: my armor, my belt, and my jedi robe... Surely you are not getting as a single escape pod to travel around in?"

((OOC: If quartermaster Nishra insists, Ajava will gladly accept whatever she is willing to hand out. I'll post an updated list in my next post, adjusted for whatever quartermaster Nishra deems acceptable.))

While the others were having an argument with Nishra, Trigiel went to inspect the ship she had prepared for them. He hated it when he didn't know the ship he was flying in, so he took all the time he had to check the ship and all its features.

"It's exactly because your a jedi knight that you should be well aware that taking unnecessary baggage will slow you down." Quartermaster Nishra explained to Ariana.

"I know exactly what your mission entails so I know you will not be needing those items. Your mission is to find her location, you're only supposed to try to take her in if you encounter her during your investigation. This is not a manhunt, knight Danacia." Unfortunately for Ariana's plan, as a jedi master, quartermaster Nishra saw right through her. "And don't think you can just get your own equipment. If I sense you have equipment not registered with me I will confiscate it."

Ajava wasn't going to get a lot more than Ariana.

"I know the details of your mission knight Shebi. You forget I'm on the council as well. It is because I know this that I know you will not be needing those items. Trust in the Force, it will protect you.

I do not believe you will need to bring a change of clothing, your mission will not take that long."

((OOC: As a storyteller I will not force you to leave things behind if you're going to need them. While regular clothing and robes are assumed to be taken CASH credits are not. (at least not by me) I do assume you take a debit/credit card or whatever digital payment method is used by your world. Other then that, since Ajava stated she brought multiple sets, I assumed she took multiple sets of jedi robes and clothing, like you would for spending several days somewhere.))

"I have not forgotten that fact, master. I just wish to comply with the desires of master Leithor, as he has asked me to refrain from discussing the details."

"I always trust in the force, it has never led me astray.", Ajava replied, which she could say in full honesty. She wasn't so sure about those claiming to divine the will of the force though.

Leaving with roughly as much equipment as she entered the supply rooms, she left for the space ship, hoping against hope that this time there was an actual flesh-and-blood pilot instead of another useless droid.

((OOC: equipment: approved

As for Ajava's OOC post lets move that somewhere else for discussion))

The ship provided for them was a fairly standard transport ship. A few canons for self defence, though nothing with any serious fire power. Two small cabins made for a total of four beds.

The human male pilot wasn't very talkative. He did introduce himself as Bob Bobson Junior. He was clearly good at his job.

It didn't take long before they took off. The trip was uneventful. They did receive a transmission from Master Leithor containing some additional information on where they needed to go.

When the ship made it's final approach to Quarsti the three jedi sensed a disturbance in the Force. Though it wasn't clear what it was.

The pilot stayed on the ship, while the jedi disembarked. They could head straight for the location Master Leithor gave them or ask around the streets.

((OOC: If any of you feel I skipped ahead to much please say so and I'll rewind a bit.

While checking the ship, when it became clear that they got a pilot, Trigiel walked back to quartermaster Nishra: "Master, the ship is broken. There is a human on board who claims to be the pilot, but I don't recall him as an padawan. He refuses to leave.

I am perfectly capable of flying on my own, even better than a mundane human, and I don't like the idea of extra luggage when we go far away, especially given the nature of our mission."

((OOC: Rewind it is.))

"I am well aware of your capabilities as a pilot Padawan Trigiel. However you can't be at two places at once." Quartermaster Nishra said. "Bob will be there if you need a quick pick up. Besides this gives you some time to study.

All he knows is that he has to transport three jedi to their destination and be ready to pick them up on a moments notice. I also advise you to pay more attention to non-jedi personnel that we employ.

Now get back to the ship, apologise to Bob for your rude behaviour and stop wasting my time." And with that the jedi master turned around and went back to her previous task.

After Trigiel had apologised to Bob for not trusting him as an employee of the jedi, they quickly went on their way.

During their flight they got a transmission from Master Leithor. After Bob had excused himself and went to check the engines, Master Leithor gave the jedi additional information. To be precise he gave them the address the zebrak pilot was staying at.

When the ship made it's final approach to Quarsti the three jedi sensed a disturbance in the Force. Though it wasn't clear what it was.

Bob landed the ship on a landing platform close to the city centre, which was very close to the address Master Leithor had provided.

There where a lot of different people walking the streets, rich, poor and everything in between. A lot of shops where here so it wasn't that strange.

Please don't play my character... You have no idea what Trigiel would do. For all you know, Trigiel would grab his lightsaber and cut Bob in half.

I understand you want to get the mission going, but deciding that my jedi just go along is railroading to the max. :(

It might be interesting to read the railroading article on tvtropes, it might give some nice insights. Once you have read that article, you can keep in mind: Brend Chriz and I are experienced roleplayers, we need little railroading and in fact dislike it when pushed to much. After hearing what Nishra had to say, Trigiel walked back to the ship, rather disappointed. "Well Bob, it seems like you are our astro-mech droid for this mission. I tried to give you a better assignment, more suited to your capabilities, but Nishra insisted you came along.

Just so you know: I'll fly."

If his fellow jedi had no other plans, Trigiel flew to their location and landed the ship near the city centre.

"Did you girls feel that disturbance as well?" Trigiel said on their approach, "I have conformation to land near the city centre. I'll just land the ship on NCC-223, maybe we'll find out there what that was."

Once they stepped out of the ship, he said: "I say, we go to the Zabrak, it doesn't seem that there is a disturbing welcoming party for us, and the Zabrak is our best lead for now."
