[ Jedi Temple ] Basic Training
"Well... I read all your files, and I must admit that I am not all that impressed. I do not doubt that you have all done your best... some more then others."
The Jedi Master looked sternly at the Padawans who were gathered before him. For some reason, everyone seemed to get a feeling that they were the ones for whom the 'others' was intended.
"You are Jedi. That means a lot more is expected of you than what you have shown me up to now. The fate of the Union and the galaxy may depend upon you. Every moment you must be ready. For one day, and you will know it when it arrives, everything may depend on your ability to do what cannot be done.
Now, I had the pleasure of reading all your files, but your fellow students do not know you yet. Why don't you take a look to your left and your right and see who is here with you. If you do not know eachother yet, you should change that immediately, as you will be working together closely and it will be best if you know what to expect of one another.
Once you are done, I will start to train you. And when I am done with you, that day when duty calls you, you may indeed do the impossible."
(( OOC: This is the first Jedi post. I haven't approved any characters yet (nor even proposed a way to get them approved) but this roleplay is open to all Jedi characters even if they're not completely done yet.
I will use the basic training to test the Jedi system and see where it needs some work and to get things started while I work on a data format for the Jedi that you can enter your character into. Once that's done, I'll start officially sanctioning characters. ))

Shebi Ajava - PC
Padawan Shebi Ajava furtively looked around the room, one part of her brain already dedicated to the analysis of physical capabilities of those around her. After having seen all the different species she consciously delegated the task of analysing the body language of those in the room to yet another part of her brain. While different parts of her brain were quickly processing their respective tasks she stood up. She shortly bowed to master Screetor and, sensing this was more-or-less an informal introduction, introduced herself to the other pupils in the room.
"Hello everyone,
I am padawan Shebi Ajava, daughter of house Shebi of the Veolian Commonwealth. Before the Jedi Order invited me to train here at the academy I attended the Crimson Academy, also known on Mirda as the academy of war. When I accepted the invitation of the Jedi Order I held the position of Fleet Admiral in the Veolian military. However, I have retired from that position to pursue my training as a Jedi.
In my spare time I enjoy a good war game or a game of dejarik. I also enjoy low-gravity and normal bow hunting, especially on planets with interesting plant life. And finally, should the planets atmosphere and temperature allow it swimming and, for lack of a better translation, paired physical exercise.
I look forward to getting to know each of you."
((OOC: Since the wiki is rather vague (probably by conscious effort) on the exact implications of becoming a Jedi I have taken some liberties with Shebi Ajava and her favourite pastimes. I interpret the vagueness of the Jedi Order as it being less restrictive then the strong dark/light schism I have seen in the movies. Please correct me if assumptions fail.))

Darones Rei - PC
To Darones it was still strange and sometimes a bit weird, to be here on Unity, in a Jedi Temple. While he enjoyed the lessons he received and spending time with other like him, he still has a strong longing for home. On the other hand however, the relative freedom he now endures, offers him changes and opportunities that he would not have had were he still at home. As he walked to the center of the circle, he took the formal bow of his people, as he was instructed to do.
" Thank you, Miss Shebi Avaja for your kind introduction and thank you, Master Sceetor, for this opportunity to make your acquittance.
My name is Darones Rei, son of Sinterra and Ladrovan Rei. I was born about 11 years ago on Glasslyn, the Sundarian Homeworld. I do not have the experience, Miss Shebi Avaja, has; and I'm still not entirely sure as to why I am here. "
Darones inclined his head as he looked towards Shebi, she had much needed experience and he would try to learn from her, and his other fellow padawan, as much as he could. The coming time he would need to learn a lot in not so much time.

Two other padawans introduced themselves as Mandat and Ekuivilia, a cocky looking pair that obviously knew one another.
"Excellent." Master Screetor nodded. "Let's get started with something simple - a few minor obstacles for you to overcome."
The Mon Calamari led the way towards one of the many training area's of the Jedi temple, which had been prepared for the training of the four padawans, though none of them were able to see what lay inside beyond the door to which Master Screetor was now blocking access.
"Once you go in, you will be facing a ravine - you will have to get down somehow. Once there, you will have to cross the central stream and finally you will need to climb up again on the other side. That should be simple enough for each of you to handle, I think?
Padawan Shebi Ajava, you were the first to introduce yourself, why don't you and padawan Darones Rei go together. The others can wait here and go next. Remember to work together - you will not pass unless you both make it to the other side."
((OOC: Please post any equipment you have on you in the next post.
Remember that you can take only one relevant action in a single post. That means if you want to climb down, that's one post, jump over the stream, that's a second and climbing back up on the other side would be a third - you'll have to wait for the result of your check before you can make the next post, though you only have to wait if you took an action, not if you are talking for example, nor do you have to wait for the other player to get their result.
For now though, a simple post of entry and a list of equipment you have with you will be enough (I suggest bringing a lightsaber ^_^)))

Shebi Ajava - PC
Padawan Shebi Ajava checked to see if the weight and feel of her equipment and clothing was as it was supposed to be. She checked the almost natural feeling of her multi-purpose utility clothing, perfectly suited since they were custom made. On top of her utility clothes she wore a double-layered thin armor, effective only against very simple physical weapons like daggers and weapons based on physical projectiles.
She checked the weight of her lightsaber on her belt. The lightsaber was given to her by the Jedi Order when she first arrived, a blue affair of regular length -- the padawan did not yet have the chance to construct her own. She left all other tools and gear neatly stored in her room, as she did not feel it necessary to come to a simple training with specialised gear.
After checking her own equipment, and throwing a glance in the direction of Darones Rei, Shebi Ajava entered the training area through the door to see the challenge with her own eyes.

((OOC: Your armour won't stand up to a lightsaber in any way, obviously, but it is noted and may be taken into account (as a favourable circumstance) in the right conditions. At the very least, it should be tough enough to withstand some scrapes and tumbles without tearing. ^_^

Darones Rei - PC
This was not what Darones had expected, to be given an assignment straight away, then again, he was with the Jedi now. As he heared master Sceetor divide them in pair's and announce that he was to go with Shebi, Darones was a little nervous and yet he wanted to leave an good impression.
He checked his 2 lightsabers which he had been given, they were still dangling on his belt, as his hands slid past them he felt the excitement coming up, this was going to be his first real test, today he would be jugded, not only by master Sceetor and the other Jedi Knights, but also by his peers and fellow Padawan.
He got out his climbers pouch, as he heared master Sceetor mention a ravine and stream which they needed to cross. Never go out without a good rope and some gear Darones, His dad had told him this a thousand times no matter how sure you are of your skill and abilities as a climber, it never hurts to bring them..
As his mind seemed to puzzle about whether or not to bring anything else, he got up and readied his clothes and made sure everything was where he wanted it to be. " I am ready master " He said as he got up and followed Shebi in.
((OOC: Equipment:
- Lightsaber, 2x short length (atk +1/+2/+1) and curved hilts (def +0/+2/+1), azure.
- 12 feet of rope, with 4 carabines, 4 safety hooks and a small grappling hook in a small pouch on his lefthand side. ))

The doors swung open with a futuristic -zip- sound, but the landscape behind it was anything but technological. The doors opened on a small mesa crawling with various jungle plants, the hot air hitting like a brick - it must have been at least 40 degrees C in there, a sharp contrast with the comfortable 20 of the hallway they just came from.
When the duo stepped inside the doors closed behind them with the same futuristic zip.
Beyond the platform was a ravine, almost twenty meters deep and wide - way too far for a Padawan to jump over - leading to a similar mesa on the other side. The central five meters were covered by a fast flowing river and the entire area was littered with various plant life, though trees were notably absent. That was probably because growing trees would be rather hard - though the environment looked natural, the fact that it had a clear concrete ceiling proved that though many of the plants were real, the area was actually artificial.
The first task before the duo would be getting down...
((OOC: Remember, when posting an action, please report as clearly as possible your Force Level, Relevant Attributes, Force Powers used (and their associated bonus), Skills used (and their associated bonus) and any Circumstances you feel apply - if you do not claim them, you generally do not get the bonus!))

Shebi Ajava - PC
Shebi Ajava surveyed the terrain before her and memorized the layout of the small area. She enjoyed the humidity and temperature as it resembled the climate of her home world. While she set one part of her brain to the analysis of the visible plants, she remembers some truely viscious and reactive plants from her homeworld ((OOC: Force level 4 + Vision 4 + Wilderness Surival 1; circumstance: homeworld mirda is a jungle planet)).
With a smile on her face, she looks back at Darones Rei: "The first part is too easy, see you at the bottom!"
She takes a running start from the point where the duo entered the training area and somersaults off the ledge, knowing that she can make a perfect landing without so much as a scratch on her armour. ((OOC: Force level 4 + Fitness 4 + Acrobatics 2; Force Jump 2 for ignoring falling damage, Force Jump 1 for corrections if necessary))
((OOC: I will be assuming that Shebi Ajava's statistics for the purposes of this test-play are as follows:
Not sure if this is the 'format' you're looking for. I have a feeling that this is actually two actions -- but one of those is just some information grabbing. I have added the attribute that sounded most logical, since the previous post asked for it, but the wiki on What attribute do I add? mentions that admin has to determine this.
By the way, we really need the :dot2: variant in the forum -- it is already in html in the entities.local.conf, so that should be an easy [dot2], or even [2].))

After taking a look around to get his bearings and determining a preferable spot to come back out on the otherside of the ravine. Darones stood at the edge of the ledge and looked down, where Shebi had already dashed down and into the ravine.
" If its too easy, " he thought to himself, " It probably isn't " as he tried to spot any movement down in the ravine, besides Shebi. ((OOC: Force level 4 + Vision 4)) and he studied the otherside of the ravine to assess the difficulty of the upcoming climb and possible weak spots in the rockmass. ((OOC: Force level 4 + Intuition 4; circumstance: this is not his first climb though he is no professional))
After that was finished he walked back and took a sprint to follow Shebi in. They would talk when they where at the bottom.. or atleast he hoped. ((OOC: Force level 4 + Fitness 4 + Acrobatics 1; Force Jump 2 for ignoring falling damage, Force Jump 1 for corrections if necessary))

((OOC: Seeing things does not require an activity and is therefor not an action. Neither are things like recognising people, knowing things or the likes. Using Force Jump however is an action. Actions are things that change the environment and thus should allow others to respond before more things happen.

The two Jedi jumped down easily, their use of the force enabling them to get down swiftly and without any difficulties. There appeared to be no obvious animal life though Darones noticed some movement in the waters of the river.
The plants were your standard, fast growing jungle plants - they looked like proper vines that could be used to climb up on the other side, but Shebi Ajava knew that those vines were not only poisonous (though not lethal, they'd give quite a nasty rash), but also tended to have very little root - using them as ropes would almost guarantee a fall halfway through the climb.
The next obstacle before them was the fast flowing river. At almost five meters wide, it probably wasn't swimable for the non-aquatic duo.

Shebi Ajava - PC
"We'de better not use those vines on the other side to climb up, they're not going to hold us. And they'll poison us." Shebi Ajava stated, while looking for loose boulders or, even though she didn't see any trees, logs or other long objects that might have been scattered around. ((OOC: Force level 4 + Vision 4 + Wilderness Surival 2; trying Wilderness Survival because loose boulders and such are usually also points of danger in the wilderness.))
While looking around she called out to Darones: "Though I like swimming, this looks a bit to adventurous to me! Help me find some log or other long loose object, I'll try to move it into place over part of the river, so we can jump the rest of the distance... or we can just throw lots of boulders in the river to create a bridge."

" That seems like a good suggestion Miss Avaja " Darones said as he joined in her in the search to anything they could use.((OOC: Force level 4 + Vision 4)) " And thats a good thing to know about these plants, ill be sure to remember that. "
" Concerning the river however " He continued, while he had the change to talk with Shebi " Im sure that a swim isn't a good idea, besides the current i noticed some movement in the water, probably a big fish or the like. Given the current and the required effort to stay afloat, id rather not have to fight with something that wants to eat me aswell. "
As he thought about the rope, hanging losely around his shoulder, he continued " To bad my rope is too short and their are no trees on the otherside, i might have been able to cross in a swift sprint over the single rope. ((OOC: its might just be possible using Force Speed 1)), boulders or the like seem like the only way now, as id prefer to stay out of the water. "

The area had no trees, nor did it feature any big rocks. In fact, beyond the plants, the area seemed remarkably featureless. Perhaps they could use some of the vines as ropes, but their poisonous nature might make that plan something they'd regret. It looked like they would have to find another way across the river.
As they scanned the area for usable materials, they picked up what Darones had noticed earlier - there was movement inside of the river. Something ivory to yellowish was in there though because of the fast flowing water they couldn't make anything out. Whatever was hidden in the water, it appeared to have noticed them as well, seeming to pull back to get out of sight... perhaps it was frightened, though it might just as well be trying to keep out of sight to get an ambush when the duo tried to cross the river...

Shebi Ajava - PC
"I don't see any obvious solution here, you know any aquatic creatures capable of serious combat in such rapid waters?", Shebi Ajava asked Darones while scanning the whole training area again. She paid extra attention to the artificial borders of the area because they might just have to go outside of the challenge parameters implicated by the environment. ((OOC: Force level 4 + Vision 4; Shebi Ajava is looking for any water inlets/outlets, artificial walls on either side of the river, and any other artificial construct not belonging in a jungle biome.))
After having a good look around she continued: "Or we could slice some very convenient blocks of rock from the cliff on our side? I should be able to throw those into the river to create some stepping stones", she shrugged, "the blocks should at least break the rapids a little."
She had already dedicated part of her brain to deducing the best way to place the boulders she could cut from the cliff. ((OOC: Force level 4 + Intuition 3; circumstance: swims a lot in natural waters, probably knows a thing or two about naturally occurring flow patterns; <del>chose Reason because it's an application of the laws of physics</del> See edit)).
((OOC: EDIT: Changed from Reason to Intuition. After rereading the Attributes page on the wiki again, it appears that although Reason could be used, it would take some paper, a pen, a calculator and a lot of knowledge on fluid dynamics. " Yes " Darones answered the first question of Shebi as he tried catch a little more then a glimpse of the animal in the water of the river to make an assessment of the possible threat it could represent. ((OOC: Force level 4 + Vision 4, to spot and probably Force level 4 + Intuition 4 to make a threat assessment)) " I know several, although they need slightly more room to live in then this river can provide, its probably just a big fish we scared away as we came down. But its probably best not to disturb the water to much and we should limit the changes to fall into it. "
" Cutting of some parts of this Rockface seems like a good idea, we could use them as a step of stepping stones to cross the stream rather quickly. The only problem would be to get them in the right places, and heavy enough not to be swapped away by the current. It could prove difficult to get the blocks in place just using your strength as mine will probably not be sufficient to lift and throw the boulders we need "
" Another suggestion is that we do try to cross the rivers and use my rope to tie us together so that we can use our combined strength against the current of the river. But using some rocks as stepping stones is probably safer and faster "

The water came out of artificial jets behind the side wall, an opening up to water level behind it. The pressure generators themselves were probably out of reach though. The side walls themselves were smooth: beyond some of those same vines growing up against them, the river entry and exit were the only features. Climbing along them to cross would be difficult.
The cliff wall they had jumped off of looked easy enough to cut through. Though melting through the material would probably take a little while, there was no reason why they couldn't do it - the river was deep, but not so deep they couldn't fill it up with stepping stones.
Darones meanwhile got a bad feeling about whatever creature was hiding in the river - though he could no longer see it with his eyes, he could sense its presence in the area and a tingle in his spine told him that whatever it was, it was watching him...

" Cutting through this rock shouldn't be a problem, it will take a while though " Darones said as he noticed a peculiar sensation going over his spine. He had felt this before, while climbing the cliffs back at Glasslyn or even driving a pod or speeder, but never had it been with this strong sense of caution, perhaps even danger..
" We should also be able to cut them large enough so that we can use them as stepping stones to cross the river. " He continued while the sensation grew, and he got the feeling that he was being watching, though he couldn't see anything at all in the water.
" I wonder.. do you have the feeling that you're being watched too, Miss Avaja ? Perhaps the thing i saw in the water isn't so harmless after all, i would swear i can sense its presence, even though its nowhere to be seen... "

Shebi Ajava - PC
"Let it watch," Shebi Ajava said while grabbing her light saber, "as long as it's in the water and we're not I don't see a problem."
She walked to the cliff face and started cutting neat blocks, which she guessed would be about the right size and weight for her to move them with the Force and function as stepping stones.
After cutting a few blocks, she looked at Darones and said, clearly amused: "And it's Miss Shebi to you, little one. You seem a bit young for the traditional use of my given name." She continued, apparently without any thought about cultural implications or Darones' age, with a wink: "Though I might know an 'Avaja' to keep you company."
((OOC: I would've given values for the cutting check. Unfortunately no saber proficiency statistics are available, so I can't give any additional information: Force Level :dot4:; Shebi Ajava knows Shii-Cho.
It's clearly not Strength, as the lightsaber does the work -- but any other statistic seems a misfit as well.))

((OOC: I think cutting square blocks from a rock-face with a lightsaber doesn't require a check. Its basically moving the saber around until you have a stone - they're to be stepping stones, not pyramid blocks where you can't get a sheet of paper between them.))
It took a while as melting the rock was slow even with the lightsaber, but eventually the duo managed to carve out several large blocks they could put into the water as stepping stones.
With some careful concentration, they moved the blocks into position together, large clouds of steam shooting up from the fast flowing water when they dropped them in, the molten rock boiling some of the water away, though it only lasted a short moment before the air was clear again.
Before them now lay a path of three boulders, each with little over a meter in between, easy enough to jump over, especially for Jedi. All they had to do was walk across.
((OOC: If I go too fast, because you want to act and carve your name in the rock before dropping it in or whatever, please feel free to state this and we'll rewind if necessary (in the case of names in rocks, just note it and then we continue as if you did, but if you want to build a proper bridge instead of stepping stones, we'll rewind)))

Darones Rei - PC
As they worked together on placing the blocks, Darones continued his conversation with Shebi.
" Understood Miss Shebi, " He responded as he felt that, yet with a bit of humor and dignity, he was being corrected by her. " and if an 'Avaja' is what I think that it is, then I feel that I should apologize for any grievance i might have caused you. " He then inclined his head and took a posture of abeyance, as was the Sundarian custom, when corrected by an elder of the opposite sex.

Shebi Ajava - PC
"You have not caused me any grievance," Shebi Ajava replied, " On Mirda we normally use given names in situations of intimacy." A small blush crept up her cheeks. "Although I'm flattered that you would think such things about me, you seem a bit young for such thoughts." "But mostly I was just amused by your mispronunciation of my given name: an 'Avaja' is not a thing, it's a girl I know."
"But let's focus on the task at hand." Shebi Ajava cut out some smaller blocks with a few swipes from her lightsaber; "This gives me something to throw around should the creature be hostile. Since you have the feeling that we're being watched, and I'm not really sure about the creature in the rapids either I suggest we cross the stepping stones one at a time? This allows one of us to cover the other should the creature attack."
"Who goes first in your culture, the lady or the gentleman?"

Darones Rei - PC
" A good question, as the general custom is to allow the lady to go first " Darones stated as he recalled his earlier classes about ethics and cultural customs " However in this particular case, it may not just be a matter of politeness but also of relative build and size. Since i am smaller and probably lighter, the stones would have less chance to shift or disappear in the rapids of the stream, allowing you to cross them in relatively the same manner once I'm on the opposite side. "
Darones also used his lightsaber to cut of some smaller blocks of rock and kept them in his right hand, leaving his saber on his waist.
" As a fitting compromise perhaps, I will allow to make the decision on which of us goes first since I have given you my opinion. And i will abide by it. "

Shebi Ajava - PC
Shebi Ajava eyeballed the rather large chunks of rock she cut out to 'throw around'. After remembering her previous attempt at throwing objects around with the force with the intent to attack, she decided that this was not the time to practice some more.
"Very well, I'll go first then," she replied while moving toward the rapids. She held on to her lightsaber. Shebi Ajava liked being prepared for an attack. She started to jump from stepping stone to stepping stone, taking care not to land to close to the edge. ((OOC: Force level 4 + Fitness 4 + Acrobatics 2 + Force Jump 2; Shii-Cho + Water over the Falls in case of attack.))

Mercury - Storyteller
Shebi Ajava jumped onto the first rock, lightsaber in hand when a jet of water blasted up as if a depth charge had gone off too close to the surface, a column of water blocking her path and washing over both her and the padawan waiting on shore.
For a moment the lightsaber blade shorted due to the water, then igniting once more. The blade she had received was intended for training, not actual missions, and the electronics were not completely waterproof - it'd function when wet (with a short every once in a while), but it would not function under water. Fortunately, she was still standing on the rock path they had created.
When the column had cleared, a robotic creature stood before her on the middle stepping stone, water still dripping down from the blast. Its hands held two short energy blades, which unlike Shebi's blade had obviously been waterproofed. Whomever had designed this test hadn't had fairness in mind when they did.
The construct didn't hesitate for a moment and immediately slashed forward with both sabers, bringing one down towards each of Shebi's slender shoulders.

((OOC: -- ROUND 1 --
Shebi Ajava is under attack!
For simplicity, I will state the exact actions taken by the robot in OOC markers - please do the same as we all learn the system.
Before the actual combat style starts, we must choose our styles - since we only have one, Shii-Cho, that's really simple. The robot uses the 'training droid style', which is equal in defence and attack.
Because no choices need to be made I am skipping straight to the first round.
The robot undertakes no Direct Combat actions but instead makes a blunt attack. Normally, the robot would have an attack of 8/8/8 (Slashing / Cutting / Piercing), but since this is the first round of combat, it suffers a -2 penalty, so its attack is 6/6/6. Shebi should be easily able to defend against that. Don't forget you can attack and defend in one turn! Naturally, Darones may also take combat actions.))
