Training with the Xomlirga
"I do hope you don't mean we have to live without technology all together. Because that would be quite impossible for me."
Nathan replied, thinking how he would be little more than some intestines and a brain without his cybernetics.
Though he didn't think the woman meant that.
"As for your question, ma'am, I think a few million at the most."

"It is not about your technology. Technology is a means to an end. It is about the way you think." she clarified.
She looked at Nathan as she explained.
"There are no roads here. No houses. No skyscrapers. There currently live three people on this planet." the young woman explained. "You two included."
She smiled warmly to him.
"In fact, this is the busiest it has been in years."
She looked to Ariana.
"When you two came here and met me, you saw that there were no roads, no houses, no skyscrapers, but you did not see what this meant.
My first lesson to you is to pay very close attention to your surroundings. It can often tell you more than the people who live there.
Study your surroundings and make it through the night. Tomorrow, I will teach you your next lesson."
And with that, the woman moved to leave into the forest, giving the two Jedi very little chance to ask questions.
((OOC: If you have any questions at this time, you'll have to ask them in your next post, as the woman won't wait.))

"Ma'am, is the water here safe to drink?"
Nathan asked before the woman left. A simple question, yet important to know for surviving here.
((OOC: I would like to know what time it is IC whether it's midday, or if the sun(s) is(are) already setting.))

"We will be here."
Ariana waited for the woman to answer Nathans question. Although she had no reason to suspect the water not to be drinkable, you never know for sure. They might be here for a while.
Ariana sat down next to a tree and pulled some food out of her backpack. While eating, she updated her log on her datapad.

((OOC: It is currently late afternoon, so you have a few more hours of sunlight left. I will tell you as the sun goes down, though you cannot make out the sun from under the canopy.
I'm afraid there wasn't any food listed at the start of the game, so no food for you. Maybe you can find some in the wilderness here.))
"If it moves, it is safe to drink." the young woman's voice answered from the bushes, then disappearing into nothingness.
Ariana moved to pull some food out of her backpack, but she soon realised food had not been on her list of items and there wasn't any to have.
The two Jedi found themselves alone in the woods, which seemed to be getting chillier. Strange sounds could be heard that they could not pinpoint. And the woman probably could have been a biiiiit clearer on what she expected of them... now what?

((OOC:
This can be found on the first page of this thread in my third post... Since we traveled all the way to the remunzian sector from Unity I expected the ship to have at least a few weeks of rations. That is why I took some food from the ship during the mission. I understand that it is only for 1 or 2 days tops.
If there was no food at all you should have denied my action back then...))
Ariana made sure that the Pilot carried a communicator that she could connect with from her datapad. (This could mean bringing a antenna to connect to the remunzian holonet)
Ariana took some food from the ship and stuffed it in her backpack next to the other equipment. After that she headed to the outer door. Instead of jumping down to the treetop Ariana made a small sprint out of the door and jumped in the air. After flying up and circling around for a bit she looked for a weak spot in the roof of leaves that was large enough for her to fit through. Ariana made a dive and went straight down for as long as possible. Before she would hit the ground she slowed down and landed on the side of a tree and climbed the last few meters.

"Well then, I'm going to get some water." Nathan said to Ariana. "If you tag along we can find some firewood along the way. It will take at least two hours to get back here though."
Without waiting for Ariana he started walking north along the path they travelled earlier at the instruction of the woman toward the stream.

"Wait for me. We should stick together, just to be sure. "
Along the way Ariana started collecting some dry wood.
Ariana followed Nathan to the stream and waited for Nathan to taste the water. After seeing him drink it she would drink some water as well.
"I guess we will spend the night here."

Nathan and Ariana made their way towards the stream, soon they found wood was widely available here, but it was rarely as dry as one would want - any fire they'd make would be very smokey and difficult to start if they were going to go for rubbing sticks together - they would need some other method. In the hour or so walk however they did managed to find enough reasonably dry wood that they could not carry it all in one go.
Finally arriving at the stream, the water seemed clear and safe, flowing downwards with that pleasant sound water makes when it runs.
By now the area had become darker, but even without nightvision, they could still see where they were going. This area had a lot of ferns, which provided them some shelter and it seemed as good a place as any to set up camp...

Nathan scooped up some water with his hands and drank it. After repeating this a few times he grabbed the driest branch they had and one of his knives.
Sitting down against a tree he started cutting small wood chips from the branch and gathered them in a neat pile. While he did this he looked around and took in his surroundings.
((Check: 9 = 5 Force Level + 4 Vision -- looking around to get to know the surroundings))
When he had enough wood chips he stood up and put his knife away. He moved to a spot away from the trees and cleared a patch of ground from leaves and mos. Keeping a part of the firewood close he laid some stones around the cleared patch and put the wood chips in the middle.
Then Nathan grabbed his lightsaber and activated it. He held the tip of the blade close to the pile of wood chips and waited until the heat from the sabre ignited the kindling. After which he would put some wood on it to keep it burning.

Ariana drank some water without using her claws. After drinking she sat down against another tree.
After a few minutes she curled up and rested with one eye open, keeping the fire in the side of her view. Unless Nathan would ask something of her she would not move.

The lightsaber turned out to work awesomely well as a lighter-saber as well, and soon the fire was burning and spreading white smoke up into the canopy, most of it water evaporating from the wood.
As Ariana lay herself down and the two of them rested, they soon realised that all the wood they had gathered was not going to last more than an hour on the fire, which despite being small in size went through the wood at ridiculous speed.
Even so, the fire would keep them warm for a while, especially now that the temperatures were dropping with the setting of the sun.
Soon, the fire was the only light left, but despite of this the forest actually became louder, not more silent.
Above them, the Jedi could hear creatures crawling through the canopy. Big creatures, hidden behind the leaves but seeming to be having a party above them, strange shrieks and the sounds of branches shaking and cracking. Whatever they were, they seemed to have taken notice of the Jedi and were gathering in the trees above them!

Ariana looked around to make sure that nothing was sneaking up on her. She looked at Nathan to make sure that he was still there.
Ariana listened to the sounds around them. She focused on the closest sound and tried to listen if it was coming closer.
Nathan, can you see them? What are they? Are they coming closer? I don't want to make a mess of things, you never know what they will do if I activate my lightsaber.

The sounds appeared to stay put above them, not seeming to be getting any...
-- CRASH!! --
Suddenly a pinecone the size of a human head crashed on the ground before Ariana, shrapnel from the cone bouncing against her feet and lower body. The screams became louder and a second pine-cone was tossed, this time at Nathan.
So far they were missing, but if one of those things hit, it could cause serious injuries!
((OOC: You do not notice any additional creatures trying to sneak up on you. Just the sound up in the canopy above you.))

Nathan switched to infra-red vision and looked up, ignoring the shrapnel that hit his metal skin.
He did his best to ascertain their numbers and what exactly they where.
((Check: 9 = 5 Force Level + 4 Vision -- Using infra-red vision to determine the numbers of the attackers, and what their silhouette looks like.))
"The woman said it's only the three of us on this planet. It's probably animals. I'm going to try and scare them off."
Pushing his vocal speaker to maximum volume, he let out a long and very loud scream. Hoping the sound would scare of their attackers.

Ariana did not expect this sudden loud scream and in a reflex move she pulled her green lightsaber and activated it.
With the ringing of the scream still in her ears Ariana telepathically contacted Nathan.
"My ears! What the hell are you doing! Now every living creature on this planet knows we are here."
She used the light of her lightsaber to see what the creatures are and would use it to slice away additional pine cones flying in her direction.

The light of the lightsaber was decisively unhelpful - unfortunately the canopy blocked line of sight.
Nathan had more luck - his infra-red vision got some kind of image anyway.

From the looks of it, they were some sort of cross between monkeys and sloths, though clearly pretty fast. It was clear these were animals and from what the Jedi could gather they might be some sort of pack out hunting for ground creatures to kill and eat.
Course they were only half a meter tall each so not dangerous individually, but from up there they could pelt stuff at the two Jedi with impunity.
If they were to get any sleep, they'd have to find a solution of some sort.

((OOC: I seemed to have misplaced that sentence.))
Upon hearing the loud sounds, the creatures stopped a moment, and for now at least they weren't pelting things down any more, but they were still clearly agitated up there.

Ariana looked at her datapad to check the distance from their current location to the waterfall. Ariana tried to remember if they passed by a cave near the waterfall.
"We should find some shelter or create it. Wasn't there a small cave near the waterfall?"
"We should find some shelter or create it. Wasn't there a small cave near the waterfall?"
"I have better idea."
Nathan picked up a small rock. Brought his arm back, aiming a bit to the side of one of the creatures. He didn't want to hurt them, just make clear Ariana and he would come at to high a cost.
No predator would attack a prey that out matched it, unless it was desperate.
He threw the rock and watched the effect it had. Hoping the creatures would back off, he picked up another rock.
If the creatures didn't back off the first time, he threw the other rock as well. This time a bit closer to them.

((OOC: Your checks are approved!))
Tossing rocks up caused quite the ruckus up there, and it was clear the creatures weren't used to having fire returned to them. Most ground animals were probably pretty defenceless against aerial bombardments, so Nathan's instincts were right on the money.
As quickly as they had come, they scurried off, racing away from their camp-site, the screams disappearing into the distance very quickly.
The rest of the night at the camp passed quietly, though both of the Jedi experienced discomfort here. The wood they had gathered for the fire barely lasted an hour, and the underground wasn't very comfortable for sleeping either.
And that's when it started raining. Not a lot of rain, but enough to make everything wet and messy. Unlike the city, where rain washed dirt off of the streets, here the rain merely moved the dirt around, stirring it into a blubbery mass. Yuck. Fortunately the rain did not last more than an hour or so...
Despite these hardships however, the Jedi finally managed to catch at least a little sleep.
The next morning, the light of the sun woke them up. Sitting on a branch high above them, the young woman whom they had met earlier was already waiting, her intense eyes looking down at them.
"Come up here, we have a long day ahead of us." the young woman stated, smiling warmly at them. "I am going to show you the forest as you have never seen it before."
It looked like breakfast would have to wait... Also, climbing wet trees covered in slippery moss was going to be an issue...
