[ Senate ] To all Union Ministers: Meeting Echani

After the necessary verification steps Ardios Eldrilith is ready to talk to the other ministers. Ardios Eldrilith asks the cabinet to convene an hour after receiving the message from the Echani.
"Thank you all for meeting me on such a short notice. I would not have asked you all to come if it was not important. An hour ago i have been contacted by the Echani government. The identity of the speaker could not be verified but the origin of the message is genuine. Our analysts have verified that the message originated from Echani territory and the official codes are legitimate. The message was unfortunately very short. See for yourselves."

"The Echani seek to open diplomatic contact with the Union."
"We will send an envoy of one diplomatic vessel to the Kortranc system in Sector 8 -8. Please meet us there with one diplomatic vessel of your own."
"I suggest to go to the Kortranc system to talk to them. Maybe we could send a small scouting team to make sure that there are no Echani fleets waiting for us there. If there is no immediate threat i will personally go to the Kortranc system. Maybe one of you should join me in this endeavor? Maybe the minister of defense would be the most logical since this possible diplomatic relation might have a direct impact on the strategic position of the Union."

"I think we should attempt to ascertain the reason for this unexpected move - why contact us? Why now?
We have limited intelligence on the Echani. We know they are a warrior culture, but a refined one with sophisticated rituals and a complex code of honour. We know they are at war with the Mandalorian Fleets.
As far as we know, they are one of the few larger powers that has withstood the Times of Chaos without fundamental changes in government, but they have lost a lot of terrain to pirates and warlords during that time and like many they have survived only by isolating themselves from the rest of the galaxy.
Now that piracy is mostly under control, do they finally seeking an end to their isolation?"
the Chancellor wondered.
"If the Echani truly wish to open diplomatic relations, this is an opportunity we cannot afford to squander. The benefits both in trade and security are to great."
The Chancellor seemed worried.
"I do not want our first contact in eons to result in the death of two ministers... but I also do not think it would be wise to make a show of force in our first contact. For all the lack of contact, we have not had conflicts with the Echani - our ships stay out of their territories and theirs stay out of our territories. The Kortranc system is right in the middle between us. That suggests they want to meet on equal terms at least."
She looked at the the Praetorian Minister.
"Likely some parts of their culture, in their isolation, have become more extreme, even seeming crude and uncivilised from our perspective. Not having had diplomatic contact with factions other than their own may have dulled the skills of their diplomats, though I believe we may seem as crude and uncivilised to them. It would no doubt be good to keep that in mind when meeting them."

"I agree that we should be careful, we do not know whether this message was sent by their government, or by a splinter group that got hold of authentication codes. Even if it is a splinter group, we should try to open up diplomatic relations. They are, as the Chancellor said, our neighbours.
I am willing to go to this meeting in person. We should see for ourselves what the Echani wish to say -- be it words of friendship, or plasma bolts from blasters."

"I guess it is settled then. We agree that we can not miss this opportunity. I will give the orders to prepare our diplomatic vessel.
Senator Nehket Aeka could you make sure that a small scouting ship is dispatched, to arrive some time before us and scan the area for possible fleet activity?
If there are no more suggestions or questions I will leave now and prepare for the journey."
