Initiation Research Terraforming

I was wondering how the initiation research works with things like climates.
1. When you have a planet that has a atmosphere IV are you allowed to do the initiation research for 3 different climates at the same time?
2. Are you allowed to do the initiation research of a second climate when you are still doing the terraforming of the first climate?
3. You can not start the initiation research for climates when you are still busy creating your Atmosphere IV right?

Mmm. That's a good one. I assumed that since the initial research is only research and not the actual terraformation, that this would be possible. That allows 'chain'-terraforming, in which a set of projects is chained together into one big project.
Not allowing this would demand burst-payment (not good in flow-based economies) and force single-turn pauses of the ongoing project.

Those are excellent questions. I'll get back to them this weekend!

The point is that you normally are only allowed to build one zone on a specific planet at the same time or do one terraformation project on the planet at the same time. The initial research is simply part of the terraformation process. Why make an exception for this?

Looking at the rules as written, I must come to the conclusion that you are not able to do initial research for a terraformation while terraforming the planet. This means you cannot do the initial research for three different climates simultaneously, you cannot initiate the research for a second climate while applying the first and you cannot initialise research for climates while adding an atmosphere.
That's how I interpret the rules as they are currently written and it follows the same pattern as the rules for building zones, that is, you must finish building one and can only start on the next one in the following turn.
That all being said, I believe there is a question in a second thread (here: link) which details on this more. I am going to discuss this matter there.

With the new technology approved, does it solve the issue addressed here or not?
Because as i read it, the technology allows for Zones and upgrades, but states nothing on terraformation projects and the linked initiation research.

No. See another proposed technology.
