Telekinesis rank 3: How does this work

Telekinesis:
●●● Rank 3: The Jedi can snatch objects, such as a lightsaber, from an opponents hand by making an opposed check.

I was thinking about taking this power soon. However when I reasoned about it with Brend we found out that with this power as it is stated now it seems that Ariana with force level 7 could grab the lightsaber of Shebi Ajava with Force level 9 due to the fact that she would win the opposed Telekinesis check. This would instantly win her a battle without any chance to defend against this. Due to the fact that you have 3 points in Telekinesis to be able to perform this action you are capable of beating Jedi with a higher level.

I think that power was designed before we did combat system streamlining. Regardless, I agree that it is a bit iffy. In a PvP setting, it is ridiculous -- but the system's target is PvE...

In PvE it's also a tad strange. Especially because of the duality: if the other party can defend against it (assuming that their checks are calculated with [Force Level + Attribute + Force Power] as well), they will most likely also be able to win the opposed check against you.

A possible solution would be to let everyone have a defensive bonus equal to their number of rings (i.e. +1 for normal people, +2 for operatives and +3 for Jedi). This makes the skill very cool.

However, I think that the main capability you get is using Telekinesis on attended objects (without rank 3 it only works on unattended objects). I think that the power should be worded as: "The Jedi can snatch objects, such as blasters, from opponents' hands by making an opposed check."

Swiping lightsabers from Jedi should not work unless the snatcher is significantly more powerful, that is, would have easily won the combat without Telekinesis 3 as well.

I agree, lightsabers are too essential to be stolen this easily.

I agree that the number of rings defensive bonus should do the trick.

I support Brends idea to change the description to "objects such as blasters". This seems to me to be the neatest solution given the new insights we have into the way combat works.

I have updated the Telekinesis page.

I will be opening a distinct topic on Opposed Checks.
