I am a bit confused by the jedi mission rewards, specifically Force power and combat style rewards.

If a storyteller offers a reward of a force power or a combat style, does that mean you get a new force power or combat style you don't know yet.
Or can you also spend it to improve a force power you already have or learn a special manoeuvre?

As far I know, a force powers work somewhat similar as skill points. When you get a power, you can spend it either on new powers or you can upgrade a power.

For combat, when you get a new style, you may learn a new style, when you get a manoeuvre, you may learn a new combat manoeuvre from a style you already know.

This is unless the story teller tells you otherwise ofc. So when a storyteller gives a reward for upgrade only, you spend your reward on upgrades only. :)

Elmer is right. There is a difference between a 'combat style' and a 'combat manoeuvre' reward. The first gives you a new style, the second improves a combat style you know by learning a new combat manoeuvre.

As to force powers: a reward of just '1 force power' can be used to improve an already known power, or to learn a new one.

However, the ST is free to limit your reward. For example '1 force power to improve an already known power' or '1 skill point to put in a skill used during the mission'. Mercury and I try to limit force power rewards to 'learn a new one' and 'improve one you know'.
