First test: Using xcache
Using an opcode cache should improve request performance for all PHP pages. This includes the data backend used by most tools.
08:07: Activated xcache. Will leave this on for an hour.

Based on my not-so-scientific observations and ad-hoc measurements, the xcache seems to improve response time. I also observe a much more consistent response time in the graph. I will leave the xcache on for the rest of the day and inspect the graph again later.

During my tests, I also spotted a performance failure for all images generated through the
_imagelink wiki data type: they are never cached and require refetching. This must be fixed in the plugins soon! The cache does not seem to improve the site's performance that much.
