NPC colour

Since we are doing stuff with user groups, I have decided to give something a try so I could see what the effect would be:

Each NPC account is currently marked in blue to indicate this is an NPC. This will hopefully help avoid confusion. Let me know what you all think.

I am also considering a colour for OOC accounts (or IC accounts?) and of course the gold for GMs.

I like the blue, maybe we should just use it for all IC accounts? In my opinion an NPC is nothing more than any other character.

Maybe the distinction between NPC and 'character' is blurred by the fact that Jedi Master Screetor is giving all descriptions in the Jedi threads. I'm reasonably sure that he is not on the Hutt space station in the cantina... Maybe a 'narrator' (i.e., the GM) account would be more fitting for narration. (Not trying to foist more accounts on admin, but I think it would greatly enhance clarity)

Also, I think white is a perfectly fine color for OOC accounts.

EDIT: Whatever the blue is used for, it might be a tad lighter (Original) in my opinion; to contrast better with the black void.

I think a bit of a subdued tone won't be bad, specially since we have four colours now (red, yellow, blue and silver). I want to see how annoying it gets regardless before changing more. Let's revisit this issue in a week or so.

The point wasn't too make a festival of the forums.

The points was to have actual readable names. The dark blue is rather unreadable here, especially when placed directly under the extremely white topic name.

I have two points on the use of colors:

1) It seems that most of the current players are willing to help out with GM tasks here and there. We should consider just changing all OOC accounts to a less aggressive Green, and reserve the gold only for story-teller or co-admin moderator hats? This might make it less intimidating for new players. Those in the GM team can just add their badges to their OOC account signature.

2) I've asked half of my flatmates about the blue, and the majority of them (5 out of 7) preferred the lighter blue over the darker one. Not everyone's monitor has a good contrast ratio, and the blue is terrible with the gray mouse-over colour of the forum. So if we keep marking NPC please use the lighter blue, if they need a different colour at all if we just distinguish the OOC accounts.

However, I don't think we need to mark the NPCs as such. It might be better to indicate which accounts are 'narrators' with a golden colour.

I agree, the NPC lighter blue is much more readable, as for the colors, gold and red are rather strong and imposing, I agree with Brend that perhaps green is better for non story-teller, non-admin

I barely notice the difference between the blues on my darker monitor, but since you all prefer, I'll change it. (Colour code for easy copying: 0088FF)

I think changing the OOC account colours may be a good idea, though I'd remove the NPC colour if we do. My proposal would be to remove the NPC colouration for now and make the OOC accounts blue instead (cause a red-yellow-green schema gives the impression of a stop-light, which I want to avoid).

What do people think?

I already (implicitly) agreed with this:
