At this moment, I miss the feeling that the conference actually is started. I can only speak for myself, so I will spam my thoughts on it:

For starters, a conference is mostly opened with a central talk. An important person says: "welcome at the conference, we are glad you are here, bla bla bla, honour etc etc, have fun and carry on."

Then there are presentations. I think it is best to have the actual presentations separate from the social talk. Have a thread with all the presentations, (2 at the same time I think, otherwise it will be TL;DR) let the people ask questions, get answers, and move on to the next presentations.

In the social talk thread we can discuss the ideas, talk to each other and thrash the terrible service ;). I cannot just roleplay, I need something to roleplay about. Otherwise I don't need the conference.

Give a clear overview of what presentations you expect: some people have said to make presentations, make a list in what order they should post a presentation and when: something like:
week 97: Barbapapa telling about transforming
week 97: Optimus Prime telling about transforming

week 99: Captain picard showing the face palm
week 99: Scotty explaining new face palm technologies

etc.

And post it on the 'welcome' post. That way it is easier to find for me.

And you have to remind people that they have agreed to make a post, they will probably forget. (At least I will I think.)
Simply put: for me there is no conference yet. I need more than a picture and a title: 'conference, enjoy.'

I am unclear on what you want from the conference. As it stands now, it seems to be an excuse to have a tea circle, instead of a scientific conference. If you want it to be an actual science conference, then we need to get to the science!

I agree with Elmer, I do not have the feeling that the conference is actually opened. I think Elmer does a good job of outlining how you could proceed.

As there are so many subjects I did not plan to give presentation, but you are right that without it you miss the essence. I will make a presentation and social thread. I suggest that we take turns in giving presentations. For each normal conference day I would suggest taking 2 weeks for presentation and question and the last international day a month. On day 5 there are many presentations so I will split it in two parts. Here is concept the presentation scheme. There is one hole and maybe we can change/swift some things. Let me know what you think.

I believe you asked in advance who wanted to give presentations, and some people gave answers. But I cannot relocate where this is. I do recall though that I agreed that the Teprogrenaian Consensus would also make a presentation about moving gigantic space construction.

The last day is too busy I think. Maybe you can switch one presentation of me upward so I don't need to make two at the same time.

And don't forget the general 'welcome' talk. I know you said IC the welcome talk was already done, but I'm sure we can work around this small announcement as we all sure like to have the conference opened :)

I have just calculated turn to weeks and discovered that I am on vacation when it is my turn. :P

But the socializing parts seems to be over... Only the STF is still there, and they haven't posted in a while now; so maybe you can reuse the thread? If there is new socializing, we can split of a thread for the socializing; for now I think you get more people there of you reuse the thread (it has a good name already...)

I don't think people need to wrap up their conversations as the last post was 8 weeks ago :) But it is nice to grant some time for the people to create a presentation.

Stuiter, I saw that you continued the Hiocan science conference, which is very good. But I get the feeling that you and most of us are not yet on one line.

The presentations continue and you see more scientists who are starting conversations about the presentations. The conference location is designed so people can have a seat in the alcoves and discus matters without hindering the flow. The presentation come and go. just like all the refreshments and food. The first day has been quite busy. In the afternoon there is a large lunch break and siesta as not all species are used to these hot temperatures. The roof of the valley is darkened so there is a lot of shade.

I, and I think I speak for the most of us, don't yet have the feeling that the conference is something real at the moment. You say that there are presentations, but saying that there are presentations and giving presentations are two different things. I like to actually see presentations IC. I like to have an official opening, an IC schedule, events to react to, things my characters can actually do.

I like the initiative of a science conference, but I want to roleplay. At this moment there is nothing to roleplay. All I can do is reading how you envision your conference, but to be honest, I don't care how you envision your conference, I want to experience your conference with my characters.

Please don't take this negative, I try to help you to elevate the conference to a higher level :)

I think the best you can do is 'resetting' the conference, and start with the official opening. Let the host have a welcomes talk and present the schedule. Give the conference a face. Then you can let the people have their presentations according to the schedule and give the IC characters the experience of walking around in stead of the OOC players a piece of text where is stated that stuff is happening.

If I had all the time in the world I would reset it, but I do not. It takes me a lot of time to write a post so I stayed up late to make this post. I did not do any of my other post. So you just have to do it with this.
