"We of the Consensus agree with senator Shahkra, if we of the anti-slavery front start to fight here and now, our opponents would have a great laugh at our little attempt. Is it good for us of the Consensus to call this the anti-slavery front?" Tassar asked without actually expecting an immediate answer before to continue:

"Aside, setting up a conference would be a lot of time and effort compared to the results. Especially since the spirit of the definition should be clear to everyone. So we only have to make the letter of the definition clear. We of the Consensus think that we of the anti-slavery front can write this one down immediately, have a second look at it, sleep about it over a night and revise the definition to cover any found loopholes.

Maybe we can also discover other approaches than only laws? We can look for example into economical boy-cots, exclusion from certain social events, rescue missions , bullying and physical threats."

Senator Harek takes a few bites of his sorbet ice to calm down and think. He wants to change things drastically, but maybe he did need not to make one big change, but multiple smaller changes to let is progress faster.

"Maybe we can split the matter of the definition and the legal actions.

My biggest concern about the definition is at witch point a species can be called "sentient" and being able to make its own decision. This is the difference of being someones pet or an individual. In my opinion this has to be discussed in a conference, just like the matter of life. Words as freedom also need to defined as to what extend people are allowed to make their own decision.

We could make a draft for a law and let it be checked by legal experts to get the spirit. Important works can then later be clarified. Other option are always welcome.

Senator Danar Tassar the Hiocan Society will not take part in any things as bullying or threatening. We do not want to create hostilities within the Union. However, exclusions on social or economic activities might be needed help them change their minds."

"With the risk of starting an unimportant discussion around definitions: We of the Consensus think that a conference is overdone, a discussion would be beneficial, but a conference would be not an efficient approach. But maybe the Hiocan Society sees a conference and a discussion as the same thing, in which case we are talking past each other and we can close this point."

The look on Tassar's face turned more serious: "Senator Harek, you speak of legal actions, but do you realise that at this moment, we of the Union can do no such things as 'legal' actions, since the Union laws say nothing about slavery, and every member have their own legal system within their borders. So if we of the anti-slavery front want to take 'legal' actions, we must make the actions 'legal'.

We of the Consensus think that eventually we of the anti-slavery front can try to pass a law against slavery. However, before we do this, we of the anti-slavery front need to do the following:
- get an air-tight definition
- get more allies into the anti-slavery front
- prevent economical backlashes
- convince the current pro-slave factions to abolish slavery
- once we have ensured that the law will be passed, we can forward the law."

"At a conference you exchange knowledge and you can then have an elaborate discussion about the matter. We think this is a good way to get a air-tight definition. We will hold one and you are all welcome to join or not if you think that it takes too much time.

Senator Danar Tassar, with legal action I also mend all the effort we make to get some kind legislation on this. Indeed, currently we have none and this is what we want to change.

We need to do various things as you propose to achieve our goals. So we need to make plans. Shall be divide the various factions among ourselves to contact them to get them to our side?"

"I shall speak to the Chancellor and her friends. I've known them a long time, and I shall remind her of her campaign promises."

The senator paused

"It is very important for the Silver Forests of Remunzia that something is done swiftly. We do not intend to wait forever."

"We of the anti-slavery front must not forget that the Praetorian Empire recently also started to use slavery in public. Senator Harek, has the Hiocan Society already approached the Astai Republic and the ACA about the anti slavery matter? Especially the Astai Republic, since they are strong allies with the Praetorian Empire. We of the Consensus think that the Astais opinion about slavery might be strongly influenced by their friendship with the Praetorians.

It might also be wise to contact House Iaat of the Veolian Commonwealth. House Iaat have abolished slavery, having an ally within the Commonwealth will strongly improve our, the anti slavery front, position."

"A good idea senator Salixa.

We already have contacted House Iaat and they support us. They will continue the fight against other Houses on Mirda.

I think I shall contact the Kingdoms of Komès and Meritonia to find out where they stand."

"I take it you have not contacted the ACA and the Astai then? In that case we of the Consensus will contact them."

[Senator Harek]

"Senator Maria Latharion has given us her support, but she wanted to stay in the background and that is why they are not here.

After her departure Senator Kachiso Doshima has reconfirmed the support of the ACA and added they were now more openly supporting us."

[Senator Salixa of the Silver Forests of Remunzia]

"I have spoken with Chancellor Acehtoo." the Remunzian senator returned with word. "She has stated that she is willing to give us her support, but she places a condition on that support.

She has required that concrete, meaningful action to implement a plan to end slavery must be taken by the beginning of turn 195. She expects at the very least for an unambiguous debate to start in the senate on this, and strongly insists that at least a first proposal for a law be made by then.

Up until the start of turn 195, she says she is in a position to aid us as Chancellor. Afterwards, she will need to use her political weight to implement her campaign promises in a different way, and at that point she will no longer be in a position to support our cause further.

I think I am paraphrasing her correctly when I say: 'let's get this on!'. Let me add my own proverb in a similar vein: 'it's now or never!'."

"Thank you Senator Salixa for asking Chancellor Acehtoo. We need her support so I will start a debate in the Senate later this week.

For a good law we need our experts to quickly set up a first draft version. We can exchange the contact information at the embassy and I will make sure they are informed and ready to cooperate. "

Senator Harek waits to see if somebody still wants to discuss something if not the closes the meeting.
