[Darones Rei]

After retreating to his chamber to contemplate the decision he had just made, Darones looked into his new teacher a bit more. Though had worked with Shebi Ajava before, his knowledge about who she was still very limited and he wanted to make sure to leave a good impression the next time they would meet.

From the information he could find, Darones soon learned that Ajava had lived a privileged life as a daughter of one of the Veolian Commonwealth's noble houses and had an extensive military career prior to joining the Jedi order. Though it would probably not be easy, Darones was already pleased with his choice as it was likely that Ajava shared his views on the passiveness Darones had observed with the Jedi Order and was it more likely to tutor him in a more active way.

The following day he reached out to Ajava to see how she wanted to proceed with his training, leaving a message for her that he had been assigned as her padawan learner and that he was curious as to how she wanted to proceed now.

Shebi Ajava replied with a simple message informing padawan Rei that she expected him to meet her near the grass field in the gardens at 07:30.


The following morning, as Darones approached the grass field, he could see the veolian jedi knight busy with a series of slow unarmed martial arts katas.

"Morning Master," Darones said as he approached Ajava, still seeming a bit off as if he was only just awake "I've never realised that the Gardens are so quiet, then again I've never been here this early. What would you have me do?"

[Shebi Ajava]

Ajava stopped in the middle of a kata and turned towards Darones.

"Good morning, padawan Rei.", she looked over the thirteen year old boy, "'Early' is subjective, padawan."

"I think it would be best if you start with waking up. Since you interrupted my katas, I think it fitting that you run laps around the field until I am finished. You may stop running when I sit down."

And with that, Ajava began from the beginning, starting with the same slow martial arts kata.

Darones said nothing but made a bow and started running. He felt a little guilty for disturbing his new teacher's exercise and was a little unsure about this new relationship.

He also questioned the use of simply running laps, with him being in excellent physical condition; he could keep going for a good while. Once he done a few laps arwound the course however, he realised why; not only did it keep him busy, he was also fully awake and ready to start his training.

But for that to happen, his new master needed to finish her routine, which meant that he would have to keep running.... and so he did.

[Shebi Ajava]

Ajava finished her katas, and sat down about five minutes later.

"Next time, I expect you to be fully awake by the time we meet.", she said with a smile once her padawan was near, "Now, have a seat".

She waited to continue until her padawan learner sat down as well: "Tell me, padawan Rei, what do you expect of your training?"

[Darones Rei]

"Yes master,"

Darones said after he sat down,

"And as to what I expect from my training, I can honestly say i'm not quite sure yet. I do however hope that it's a bit more focussed on taking a proactive stance, and not remain as passive as the Jedi Order normally seems to preach. This is perhaps most evidently shown in my last mission, in my little running with a Sith warrior.

If you don't mind me saying so, I get the impression that most of the Master are just happy with survival and maintain a balance, were as I feel that the Jedi should get more involved and actually do something about what they consider to be 'bad influences in the force' instead of just sitting around and wait for it to pass or resolve itself."

[Shebi Ajava]

Ajava raised an eyebrow when Darones spoke about 'just happy with survival'.

"So tell me, what do you consider to be a bad influence in the force?"

[Darones Rei]

" Well," Darones responded, "allowing the Sith to survive for example. Their actions constantly influence the force, and mostly their influence in not considered to by good. If they are left unchecked and unchallenged, the balance will remain disturbed.

But the same can be said for others more closer to home or those that are easier to imagine. For example the Mandalorian war, while the Mandalorian aren't directly influencing the force, the war does have its effect on people and as such treathens the balance of power. The Sith, as we discovered, then use this to further their own agenda, while the Council seems to do nothing.

I find that hard to understand, but perhaps you could tell me why that is?"

[Shebi Ajava]

"You would hunt down and destroy all Sith, then?", Ajava looked at Darones with a neutral expression.

"How would you maintain balance if you destroy all those that oppose us...", she seemed to think for a moment. "Without resistance, we grow complacent and weak. Though I agree that something could have been done earlier, the war is not yet over. And you can still play a part in it."

"What do you think makes one a Sith? How are Jedi different?"

[Darones Rei]

"Destroy them all?.. "

Darones responded,

"No, at least not all,.. but keeping track of them and their movement would be wise. As the Masters teach, balance must be maintained, in all things. Removing the Sith completely would tip the scale and would result in chaos. Just as good has no purpose without evil and ying cannot do without yang, there will always be Jedi and Sith; working on both sides of the balance.

As for the difference between a Sith and Jedi, I find that hard to describe. As I see it, they aren't much different but I believe it lies within the morality and motivations behind the actions. Sith appear to be not as bound by a moral code or set of teaching as the Jedi are, as a result they could be considered more impulsive, more emotional even, and driven by personal motivations or agenda's; were as Jedi seem to be more concerned with the well being of all, and put the Order and its teachings before personal ideology, beliefs or desire. Where some would find such qualities admirable, other might view them as weak or even reluctant to intervene."

[Shebi Ajava]

Ajava took her time to think over the words of her padawan learner.

After a while, she replied.

"Your youth has allowed you to see things with a fresh perspective, yet your training with the Order has set your thoughts to certain paths. It is true that we do not know the agenda of the Sith. But neither do we know whether the Sith are of a singular purpose."

Ajava closed her eyes for a moment, and seemed to concentrate on something.

"Imagine, for a moment, that instead of a singular Jedi order, there were two orders. Each following the same ideology, but on different sides of a great war. Both orders would wish for their side not to lose. But if the jedi masters from one of the two orders would directly involve themselves with the war, the other order would have no choice but to do the same. If both orders are actively involved in the war, balance is preserved. But if both orders refrain from involvement, balance would also be preserved."

[Darones Rei]

"You make an excellent point Master,"

Darones answered after he had considered Ajava's reply.

"I will need to contemplate on this issue some more, but yes, there would be balance if both sides either acted, or refrained from interfering.

What else would you like to ask of me, or have me do next?"

[Shebi Ajava]

"I think that this is enough for this morning."

"We shall continue our discussion in a week's time. This week, I want you to practice your unarmed combat skills, and I want you to keep track of how you spend your time this week to the detail of half hours."
