Can the commonwealth handle off-world grants and titles?
Mirda - The official legal status of the Adii Nasla settlement remains unclear. With little over 2.0
the settlement is smaller than the archduchies of Mirda. Our political analysts expect a time of uncertainty to persist until the bigger question of the distribution of off-world lands and titles: up till now the Emperor has not granted landed titles with lands off-world.
Even the Dewan acquisition of Kelwar-an is merely based on a deed of ownership. With significant numbers of population migrating off-world, the question of off-world territories has become suddenly relevant. Proponents of the creation of off-world titles claim that it would signify the start of the transition from being only civilized world to being an intergalactic power. Detractors of the possibility of off-world titles claim that without population, such grants would be empty gestures and that those holding such a title would hold an empty title.
And of course, there is the question of the legal status of the Adii Nasla settlement in the context of the Union laws. Once the settlement's current infrastructural developments are completed the settlement as a whole qualifies under all Union laws, save sovereignty, as a candidate for Union membership. Of course, no one in the commonwealth seeks to declare that the settlement should be independent. But even now, foreign politicians are suing veolian citizens in veolian courts over a matter that are considered closed by the Union Senate. It is unclear what the political enemies of the Commonwealth will do in the Senate.

Statue of Odakim V unveiled
Asla - Today, a few days after his defeat in the race for chancellor, a 30 meters high statue of Odakim V was unveiled on the veolian planet of Asla. The statue is made out of an single piece of limestone imported from the Rising Suns of Deominius, and is the results of three weeks of intense manual labour by a team of skilled veolian masons. The statue shows Odakim V, styled in traditional Deominian robes. A durasteel plaque on the base of the massive statue reads:
The statue is placed in the foyer of the Adii Nasla settlement's primary space port, visible to all travellers that arrive or leave Adii Nasla through flights from the commercial port. The space port is currently under construction as the remnants of old infrastructure are repurposed. In the final design the roof of the space ports foyer opens up to the breathable air as soon as the terraformation of Asla allows it. This would be at the moment that Asla's cutting-edge terraformation protocols enter into what is called the "filtration phase", where induced precipitation is used to filter acids and other contaminants from the atmosphere before photosynthetic rebalancing.

Pirates attack Astrian Colonial Navy Capital Ship
Sector 6 -5 - A spokes person for the Astrian Colonial Navy announced that, several days ago, a band of pirates attacked one of their frigates in
6 -5. Some of the crew of the ship sustained minor injuries but their have been no casualties among the military personnel.
The frigate was on a routine patrol for pirates in the area when the pirate vessel dropped out of hyperspace. The pirate vessel fire several warning shots before attempting to board the frigate. Much to the pirates surprise, when they opened the airlock they weren't met by a frightened freighter crew but rather three squads of marines armed to the teeth. Fending off the boarding crews, two of the squads turned the pirates tactics against them and boarded the pirate vessel. Not used to resistance the pirates were quickly overwhelmed by the highly skilled marines.
In a last effort to get away the pirate vessel attempted to run only to find themselves caught in a tractor beam from the frigate. The captain of the frigate issued a single warning, to which the pirates promptly surrender. The pirates have been arrested and will be transferred to Stellaria to be trialled.

Research Lab on brink of perfecting controversial prenatal screening technique
Mirda - The research institute GumaLabs has announced that it is perfecting a set of techniques and methods that will allow detecting a large array of medical problems before the birth of a child. They claim that their researchers have found a way to make these prenatal screening techniques available to everyone in the Veolian Commonwealth at almost no cost.
Natural selection is considered a core value by veolians, and is held as an almost sacred concept in veolian culture. The early detection of congenital disorders is not illegal per sé in the commonwealth. However many of the procedures to correct birth defects are considered immoral, harmful to society, and a violation of the child. Therefore, nearly all such procedures are illegal. Some procedures can be legally employed, but only under stringent conditions and with the consent of both biological parents.
If GumaLabs' claims are true, the mere presence of this technology will incite public debate on the topic of prenatal screening. UCN has not yet been able to verify what the affiliations of GumaLabs are, or where lab's funding came from.

Slavery court battle continues in two weeks!
Mirda - The court battle between the Remunzian delegation and the Veolian nobility, currently fought in the High Court of Jala Khaira on the planet Mirda, has been suspended for two weeks. The Remunzians have doubted the legal validity of veolian slavery laws, since they give slave-owners the unnatural ability to own slaves, which could be interpreted as a cybernetic enhancement. And those are strongly regulated in the Veolian Commonwealth.
During the two-week pause in the court arguments, the high court has invited other world to submit a written statement of legal opinion, testimony and legal interpretation.

Remunzian "mate-seeker" finds partner. What happens next will surprise you!
Mirda - A love has bloomed between Remunzian mate seeker Illora-Veleanor and Veolian scholar Khaw Darsana. The Remunzian has been a key player in a legal case brought before the Veolian courts by the Silver Forests of Remunzia, challenging their practice of slavery.
But in a surprising twist, House Khaw announced today that the relationship between the two will not be one of a regular marriage, but that Illora-Veleanor has accepted a position as personal slave of Khaw Darsana, in clear defiance to the legal battle in which she is a plaintiff.
Neither Illora-Veleanor nor Khaw Darsana could be reached for comments, but Senator Salixa's office replied to inquiries with a statement that appears to confirm the decision:
"Illora-Veleanor is a naive young girl who appears to have been manipulated by a much, much older partner for political gain, rather than love. This kind of abuse of people for ones own personal gain touches at the core of everything that is wrong with slavery. We regret that Illora-Veleanor is now a victim, rather than an ally in the war against slavery"
At this time, it is not clear what, if any, impact this decision will have on the trial.

Ambitious prototype terraformation project started on Nayi
Nayi - A new kind of terraformation technique is pioneered on the planet Nayi in the Adii Nasla system. The planet's unqiue and unexplained continuous mountain ranges and jagged plateaus do not allow for easy construction. During the scientific investigation of the origins of these surface features it has been discovered that these very same features make the planet very conductive to several kinds of terraformation techniques.
A new kind of terraformation technique will be prototyped on Nayi. Instead of slowly building up the planet's atmosphere in phases followed by the introduction of natural life, the new technique focusses on using the planet's existing features to guide an accelerated pseudo-evolutionary process. The term bioterraformation is used to describe the new process.
A new type of terraformation module has been developed that both monitors and regulates the terraformation process. To bootstrap the bioterraformation process, the planet's ambient temperature wil be raised by a combination of surface heating, core perturbation and polar melting; immediately thereafter the pseudo-evolutionary process will be started.
It is expected that the process of bioterraformation will have run its course in 30
, during which it will require constant influx of reactant gasses, fuels, and carefully mixed biomass.

First attempts to create hybrid species failed
Morrigna/Praeto/Glasslyn - Though much progress has been made to further the advancement of the joined Praetorian-Sundarian settlement in the Nashira Mira system, the cooperation has not been as succesful on all fronts. Eventhough the inhabitants on Morrigna are working hard to improve the infrastructure necessary to achieve economic independence, scientific efforts to create a subspecies more suitable to local life have failed due the problems with genetic compatibility and reluctance of the populace to partake in the experiment.
Officals representing the Settlements governmental council have stated that more work is needed to grow public interest for this experiment and that the council is looking into ways to promote the joining of the Sundarian and Praetorian communities.

Stellaria - Lady-Admiral of the Navy Natsume Kruga, second in command of the Astrian Colonial First Naval Fleet, has managed to gain several concessions from a sub-faction on Stellaria of which a large portion of the personnel in her battle group are residents. The concessions are mostly about welfare and childcare services, with a few about social benefits as well. This was much to the dismay of the local government.
Several officials have gone on record saying the Admiral "forced her demands on them" and "bullied the concessions from them". They followed with requests to the Astrian Colonial Authority to reprimand the Admiral, one official went as far as calling the Admiral a traitor. This caused severe outrage from the local population as well as neighbouring sub-factions. The official has since changed their attitude towards the entire subject.
Contrary to the reaction of the local government, the local population has welcomed the concessions. Many residents feel the concessions are very reasonable considering the fact the personnel in question lay their lives on the line in order to make the Galaxy and the ACA safer.
While the ACA has not reacted to the situation, surprisingly the Lady of Blood has expressed her support in favour of Lady-Admiral Kruga.

Conflict between Divine Nova Triage and Travellers
Stellaria - Two sub-factions, one associated with the Travellers and the other with the Divine Nova Triage, are having a conflict of interest. The sub-faction associated with the Travellers wish to demolish a portion of the old ruins that cross the border between the two parties to make room for a new hospital, the sub-faction associated with the Triage claims the ruins are a cultural monument. Both sub-factions have the support of their respective associates.
Tensions have steadily over the past few weeks, though both sub-factions have attempted to negotiate a solution without success. The tension has now spilled over into other sub-factions associated with the two groups.
While the Triage and the Travellers have never seen eye to eye, they usually maintain friendly, if cold, relations. This conflict may mark an end to that. The ACA Internal Safety Bureau has urged the two sub-factions to resolve their issues post haste.
People from sub-factions not associated with either party have expressed concern about the situation. Most are less concerned with the issues between the two and more with the possible split between two of the most influential groups in the ACA.
More on this as the situation develops.

ACA orders Triage and Travellers to negotiate a compromise within a week
Stellaria - In a public statement the Lord-Master has ordered the two sub-faction who are having a conflict about a ruin complex to resolve the matter within a week or risk losing their territory to the surrounding sub-factions and have their local governments abolished. Troops from the Colonial Marines have begun to patrol the streets of the sub-factions. Local inhabitants have been assured this is only a precautionary measure and have been advised to stay off the streets.
Shortly after the statement the Bluethread Financial Group said they will be temporarily suspending all trades and transactions with sub-factions associated with the Divine Nova Triage and the Travellers until the matter is resolved.
Reactions to the news have been mixed, ranging from relieved that the ACA is getting involved to shocked about how hard the ACA and the Bluethread Group are cracking down on the issue.

Mysterious rumours surround new project by Kupha Bevak
Mirda - The programmer-turned-billionaire Kupha Bevak, founder of the succesful communications and negotiation tech company Skipnet, has leased an office building in the center of Vansaval. Directly following, a subsidiary corporation called "Skipnet|Whiteout" started recruiting programmers, holo artists, and realtime database specialists. The holosite associated with Skipnet|Whiteout features only the logo, and a "We're hiring" section. No clues about the nature of the new company have been provided.
Forums and social media are abuzz that Skipnet is building some kind of gaming platform, citing the hiring of holo artists as indication that it must be something in the entertainment branch. Other's have stated that it is clear that this is a continuation of Skipnet's original mission: to build upon Kupha Bevak's reputation for understanding the IO to provide realtime metrics and market analysis.

Buyout of Daryan DVF Organics interest
Mirda - The galactic DVF Organics corporation, specializing in massive-scale vertical farms, has been taken over by parties from the Veolian Commonwealth. The final buyout of Daryan interest last week signifies a complete transfer of control from Daryan stakeholders to stakeholders in the Veolian Commonwealth.
It is unclear what parties are financially involved in the 20000
deal. The only hint that has been uncovered is that the money was routed through several financial institutions on Unity City before being transfered to the Unified Republic of Darya.

Surprise appointment stirs up political balance
Glasslyn/Union City - With the longtime Sundarain senator and former minister the Lady de Montrève winning her seat as Supreme Judge of the Union, the past weeks have been politically active with several factions and parties pushing forward their candidates for the now vacated, prestigious position as Senator.
As per Sundarian Law, after ten days the Convenion of Peers, headed by High Lord Yllia, was called to discuss the candidates and advice the Sundarian Senate and Council on suitable candidates for the position. The recommendation of the Council of Peers is, though not binding, is considered to be a major endorsement for the chosen candidate, who is often elected.
The recommendation for Lady Jennifer, Princess of the Obotanga came as quite a surprise, especially within the Sundarian Council. The Senate however, pushed her election as an outsider, rather than to commit to a candidate from one of the established parties.
High Lord Yllia has announced to be pleased with the Senate's choice and hopes that the Princess will prove to be positive influence in both internal and intergalactic politics.

Slave Rebellion Delegation visits Silver Forests of Remunzia
Unity - A diplomatic vessel from the Slave Rebellion arrived on Remunzia today for what has been described as "bilateral talks". While much mystery surrounds the talks, it is rumoured that the delegation is here in preparation of some sort of agreement with the Union as a whole, as it would be unlikely for any member state to unilaterally make agreements with a foreign power.
It is unclear what impact this news will have on the elections currently going on in the Union, if any.

Technical connectivity issues
Unity City - A large scale technical issue in the holonet grid appears to have temporarily cut off communications with the Silver Forests of Remunzia. The issues appear to have been caused by a series of explosions at various holonet relays in the Remunzian sector, which in turn caused redirected traffic to congest the remaining connections. At this time, no communications are available.
Some experts speculate that a cascade failure may have resulted from an error caused by the use of lower quality recycled materials instead of less environmentally friendly but superior alternatives. Remunzia is known for their extensive use of environmentally friendly alternatives, as it seems, to a fault. Experts expect the connection will be restored within a few hours.
Senator Salixa, currently in Unity City, was also unreachable for comments, but this was due to her being busy with government business instead of technical difficulties.

Mirda - With the current events in the senate showing confusion and uncertainty, General Dewa Kilmar claims that such a sequence of events can mean only one thing. We quote his succinct statement on the matter: "A communications disruption can mean only one thing — invasion."
Normally, the generals of other Veolian houses are available for comment in situations such as these. At this moment the only reply we could get was from a low-ranking officer. He states: "Stop bothering me for a quote, we're deploying all military forces and don't have time for you nosy reporters."

Skipnet's
Mirda - Skipnet has issued a press release stating that it will perform a significant cycle of updates on iona, necessitating several short periods with reduced connectivity to the market. iona is currently on version 2.83, and is expected to be ugpraded to verseion 3.83 in the comming month. The announced new features include an increase in metrics and analytics options for small companies subscribed to the service, a significant improvement in responsivity due to upgraded internal communications protocols and the replacement of dedicated buffering hardware.
More surprising, among the new features for small business, a number of consumer-oriented features are listed as well: significantly improved holo-projector support, advanced compression algorithms to allow unparalleled code mobility between compatible devices, and an increase in quality of both visualisation and voice synthesis. Market analysts expect that these new features are a bid for an even greater market share in the small-business segment, which might also mean an attempt to enter the personale communications market. How these new changes will impact the share price of Skipnet remains to be seen.
In related news, there is still no additional information available on Skipnet|Whiteout, but it is known that the subsidiary currently numbers about 250 employees, and has started leasing significant amounts of datacenter capacity around Mirda.

Are we heading to war?
Stellaria - All throughout the Novalia System signs of impending conflict with a foreign entity can be observed.
A few weeks ago personnel of the Astrian Colonial Military received a call to arms. Only a few days later the Bluethread Financial Group started stockpiling supplies and ammunition. They also started contracting transport ships and logistical companies specialized in transporting to dangerous locations.
More recently military bases have gone into full lockdown and both the First and Second Fleet of the Colonial Navy have been put on alert status. Rumours of piracy patrol ships being recalled have been circling non stop for over a week. Only a handful of sisters and Lady-Priestesses from the School of Blood remain on Stellaria and associates of the Travellers have been securing large quantities of medical and relief supplies.
ACA citizens have expressed concerns about these things, but so far the non of the parties have issued any kind of statement.

Contact with Adii Nasla lost — high nobility stranded!
Mirda - Earlier this week contact with the Adii Nasla settlement was lost a few days after reports of a Slave Rebellion fleet entering the settlement's sector. Efforts to re-establish contact have failed so far. In reaction to the the Veolian Commonwealth has dispatched two of its fleets to intervene. At this moment, the reaction of the Union seems to be non-existent, or at the least exceedingly slow.
In the meantime, visitors to the settlement are stranded, and without communication. Among them Lady Khaw Darsana, who recently became a celebrity due to her taking the remunzian noble Illora-Veleanor. Both nobles are most likely stranded on Asla, the single populated planet in the settlement.
It is unclear at this moment what the situation in the settlement is. We will keep you updated as reports come in.
