Type III Atmosphere

Type III Atmosphere

Thin clouds in a Type III Atmosphere.

Type III atmospheres lack appropriate levels of atmospheric oxygen, have insufficient pressure, or have a strong presence of contaminants or trace gases. For most other species, these atmospheres cause immediate or eventual impediment or even incapacitation, though some species can breathe these types of atmospheres. Worlds with a type III atmosphere sometimes support life. To survive, a breathing mask is required, though often environmental suits are advised.

Terrestrial planets and moons in goldilocks orbit can have a Type III Atmosphere. For worlds without Natural Life, it is the best attainable atmosphere level.

Advantages

  • A world with a Type III atmosphere gains a bonus of +20 to all production.
  • A world with a Type III atmosphere is Habitable.

Cost

The cost of a Type III Atmosphere depends on the size of the world:

World Type Biomass cost for Type III Atmosphere
Small moon 2
Medium moon 6
Large moon, small planet 14
Medium planet 38
Large planet 74
