Young Salia is sent out on a mission by Master Leithor, as children have been reportedly acting very strangely. Investigating, Salia meets Miri, a girl who is picking pockets from adults, who leads her to her much taller sister and a group of abandoned children being abused and part of a larger criminal enterprise.

Salia feels she needs an adult when the criminal in charge start getting hurt by the criminals, but the others don't like it, so instead she convinces the children to play ball with her. As they play, Salia learns nobody in the group ever plays, and she invites them to come live at the Jedi Temple so they can do so. But when they agree to leave, the criminal confronts them and there he fires a blaster at Salia! Miri's big sister jumps in front of the shot and gets hurt! Not knowing what to do, Salia stats crying, but Miri snaps her out of it and together, mostly by accident, they save her sister.

After bringing everyone to the Jedi, Master Leithor raises the question as to what Salia has learned, but she counters that perhaps there was something Master Leithor learned as well. With everyone now a bit wiser, Salia goes off to play with her new friends!
