As a result of the Floating Factory Attack, which took out a major producer of Mass Transit Cargo Freighter in the Union, rising prices became problematic for new economies. The Union adjusted by subsidising them for small member worlds, encompassed in the Turn 17 Subsidies Law.

As it turned out, advantage was immediately taken by some member worlds, and Senator Mathi-ey C'b'rton was forced to interfere. However, no evidence of foul play was found, and all parties involved were acquitted.

The subsidies are as of yet ongoing.
