Type II Atmosphere

Type II Atmosphere

Air polution in a Type II Atmosphere.

Type II atmospheres have appropriate levels of atmospheric oxygen, but due to lack a of sufficient pressure, the presence of contaminants or trace gases or even because of biological threats, these atmospheres cause detrimental effects to most sentient species over time. Most species can breathe Type II atmospheres without any trouble for short durations. Planets with a Type II atmosphere always have native life. Though not necessary for short excursions, a breathing mask is advised for most species visiting a world with a Type II Atmosphere.

Terrestrial planets and moons in goldilocks orbit with Natural Life can have a Type II Atmosphere.

Advantages

Cost

The cost of a Type II Atmosphere depends on the size of the world:

World Type Biomass cost for Type II Atmosphere
Small moon 3
Medium moon 9
Large moon, small planet 21
Medium planet 57
Large planet 111

Additionally, a world must have Natural Life to be able to have a Type II atmosphere.
