Power

Zones require power ( ) to operate. So long as zones have power, they function normally. When there is no longer sufficient power, Brownouts would result, which is harmful to equipment so instead, localized Blackouts are created. This means in effect that zones for which there is not enough power will not function.

Zones require 10 to operate (even power zones require this). Additionally, every 0.1 people require 1 (so if the total population is 5.0 , they would require 50 ).

Power is calculated on a per orbit basis. That means planets, moons, and asteroids in the same orbit all share in the same power supply. Population costs are paid on their orbital location in the system.

Generating Power

Worlds have three sources of power: base power, generated power and imported power.

Base Power is provided by the star and is a constant amount for each orbit. Generated Power is generated by Power Zones and Power Stations. Imported Power is imported from other orbits through the power grid.

Depending on the star and the orbit type of the world, worlds generate a base level of power. This energy is automatically available in each orbit - you do not need to make any arrangements for it.

Gas giants also generate a base level of power. This power is generated in their orbit only.

Planet Type Power Output
Brown Dwarf 60
Jovian Giant 40
Ice Giant 20

Generated Power is generated by Power Zones.

Large Planets and Power

A large planet takes up two orbits. For all purposes those orbits are merged into a single orbit, with double power production. That means a large planet in hot orbit around a Main Sequence star functions as a single orbit with 120 base power. It can be transferred to orbits on either side as normal and moons of the large planet share in the available power.

A Large Planet that takes up one orbit due to the Heavy Gravity World special gets power for one orbit only and operates like any normal planet / orbit in every regard.

Moving Power

Power need not be generated locally. It may be exported between orbits, though there are losses involved in this. To transfer power between two adjacent orbits takes 1 power for every 1 power transferred. It is not possible to trade power or transfer it between systems. The distances are too great and storing the power is too costly.
