Terrestrial planets are planets made of rocky materials. During System Creation planets use up .

There are three types of Terrestrial Planets: Small Planets, Medium Planets and Large Planets. Additionally, Asteroid Belts are treated as planets, though they have various limitations.

Planets (and Asteroid Belts) use one orbit (either , or ) each, with the exception of the Large Planet which uses two of the same type.

The cost, zones and lunar orbits of each planet type are listed below:

* A Large Planet takes up two orbits both of which must be of the same temperature.

Double Planets

A Small Planet with a Large Moon is automatically considered a double planet. Additionally, a Small Planet with a Medium Moon or a Medium Planet with a Large Moon may be classified as a double planet at the choice of the player. This has no effect on the game.
