The Socialist Republic of Niom is a sovereign state in Sector 14 -7. It has a very large government apparatus, with over 60% of the working population working for the governmental organisations and an extensive welfare system. The republic's people are generally xenophobic, immigration is severely restricted and foreigners are limited in their access to the system.
The Republic is known for its slow processing and Kafkaesque bureaucracy. As a general rule, the world is run in an inefficient manner, and efforts to improve it are slow to take effect if they work at all. Despite these problems, Niom has a strong workforce which compensates for many of these problems by working harder, if not smarter.
During the times of chaos, Niom was at war with the New Communist Imperium of the Rising Suns of Deominius, and relations between the two are still strained.
