Amird is a Medium Planet in the Smi-Halek System. It is the counter-planet of Mirda.

Because Amird shares it's orbit with Mirda but orbits around Smi at the exact opposite side of Mirda, it is impossible to see from the one planet to the other. This has fact has had great influence on the cultural development of the veolians. The existence, or rather non-existance, of Amird has led to lengthy debates and religious upheaval.

Amird was the second orbital body to be visited by Veolian space expiditions after a succesful flight to Sirip. The 'Schismatic Mission', called thusly because of the religious impact of going to the supposed world of demons, was funded by the government in an attempt to determine the option of working together with the Counter-Veolians that would surely exist on the planet. The determination that Amird did exist and that not a single bacteria lived on it, let alone a population of demons, stopped the public debate over the issue overnight.

After joining the Union and stepping into the terraformation industry the plan was made to terraform Amird as the second eden world in the Smi-Halek System. A new ecosystem was designed to work around the extensive industry on the planet, taking into account recycling efforts. The first and most involved stage of this ambitious project was completed in 195, when the planet's atmosphere was stabilized and natural life was introduced on top op the gas extraction and refining superstructure. The final terraformation steps were completed in 248 when the water levels were rissen through depe polar melting.
