[ Jedi ]

It is hardly possible to make a serious Jedi without having a lightsaber. Lightsabers have a significant impact on Combat and the Combat Styles you are able to use. For example, lightsabers provide bonuses to various Combat statistics and many Combat Styles are limited to certain types of lightsabers.

Choosing the right saber is a difficult personal choice, influenced by many factors. Jedi craft their own lightsabers so as to fit them to their personal style and in this they have many options available for saber colour, hilt design and blade length.

You may take at most 2 blades (that is '2 blades' as in 2 single-blade lightsabers, or 1 dual-bladed lightsaber) with you on a mission.
Blade Length
Lightsabers have an adjustable blade length, but changing the size of the blade requires technical tools and a workbench as the crystals have to be realigned, the lens needs to be adjusted or even replaced depending on the type and not all hilts are suited for every blade length in their basic configuration.

Regardless of the exact size, blades are divided into four categories based on the length of the blade compared to the size of the wielder and the effect this has on the way the saber can be used.

Long blades, which extend far beyond the Jedi's normal physical reach are so large that they need to be wielded in two hands to be used effectively. Regular blades are shorter, and can be wielded both one-handed and two-handed. This is the most common configuration and it allows the widest amount of options, Combat Style-wise. Short blades are sized for one-handed use, limiting range for flexibility and speed. Finally, light-daggers are very short blades. They are too short for most fencing style moves, requiring the Jedi to get up close and personal with the weapon.

When wielding a saberstaff like Darth Maul, the blades are limited to being regular sized or short sized and both blades must be the same length for balance reasons. Dual light-daggers are not very effective. When wielding two lightsabers, the maximum length of a blade is regular size, though sizes between the blades need not match.

Blades provide offensive bonuses to your combat statistics. Each blade list a usage which is required for the blade - usage is used to identify which handles a weapon can have and which Combat Styles the blade can be used for. If a blade lists multiple styles separated by OR, you can only use one, depending on the style of handle. If a blade lists multiple styles separated by AND, you can use both styles provided the handle allows for this.

Saber Color
Lightsabers are available in any colour - this generally does not affect the abilities of the lightsaber, though there are some preconceptions about Sith using red and Jedi using blue which are hard to quell. Certain Special equipment may restrict your choice of colour. Even with the general freedom on sabers, please try to avoid things like ultra-violet or blacklight sabers.

Hilt
There are no factory produced hilts - all hilts are custom made by the Jedi wielding the weapon. However, for gaming purposes, we recognise several types of hilts.

The regular handle is suited for one-handed or two-handed use. It is most commonly used for regular length blades and matches most Combat Styles. A short handle limits the Jedi to one-handed use and is only available for short blades and lightdaggers, though it allows more freedom of movement. Long handles may be used for any blade length, and may be as long as the blade itself. Finally, staff length handles, which can be longer than the Jedi wielding them, are limited to lightdagger length blades to be practical to wield in combat and are used as spears or pikes.

A curved handle, which is invariably short ((You can have a curved long or regular handle, but it won't affect its combat statistics)), allows for more elaborate fencing moves. A tonfa style handle can be used for its own Combat Styles, but the shape is restrictive on most regular styles. Some lightsabers have a crossguard saber, which is too small to cut an opponent, but which can be used to catch an incoming attack more easily.

Handles provide bonuses to defence - actually the blade is used, but the handle makes it easier to defend in certain ways. In case of dual wielding with different handles, average the bonuses of the two handles, rounding down all fractions. As a result, it is generally best to have two identical handle types for dual wielding.
